Tasty Fun

Our guide was Jess. She was a delight and very well informed about the businesses and neighberhood we toured. The only business we didn't care for was the Fudge Pot. One employee was eating the nuts used for the candies, using his gloved hand to scoop them off the tray and eating them. Also, the three employees there were not at all friendly to our group. We hope to take another tour in the fall.

Bucktown/Wicker Park Park Tour Worth Your Time!

This is a great tour. I have been to downtown Chicago many times but was ready to branch out. You'll take a little tour into the surrounding neighborhoods which was very interesting. I highly recommend taking this affordable tour.

Great tour, guide, and food.

Loved the food selection. Kent, our tour guide, was great. He covered architecture, history, and of course the food. We would not have visited the area as first time tourists in Chicago. There were quite a few locals (chicago and vicinity) on the tour too. Not sure how much children would like it but would definitely recommend for adults.

Bucktown tour is worth every cent!

The Bucktown tour was fabulous. Kent, our guide, was passionate about the neighborhood in his description of the architecture, the background of the restaurants we visited, and his overall knowledge of how history has shaped the neighborhood. The food choices were a nice variation and we were stuffed by the end of the tour. We were fortunate to have mild weather for late November and this was a great way to spend the afternoon. One member in our group is from Chicago and had never done a tour like this- she loved it and expects to go back to the area. We would highly recommend the tour.

Local Lunch & Learn for FUN!

The idea of featuring local businesses while sampling food and learning some historic facts about the neighborhoods and the local merchant is a win win. It was a beautiful day to take in the 1.5 mile walk and we really enjoyed the food, food facts, neighborhood gems & historical detail our tour guide gave us. It was a unique outing and one that I enjoyed with a friend. Would do it again in a heartbeat & would like to try one of the other tours offered. Try It, You'll Like It!!!

A great food tour combined with Chicago history.

The group of 10 agreed that the way the food tour is set-up is perfect. We felt a little rushed when eating pizza, but understand it was a timing issue. The walking was great but some felt it was a lot of walking. The only negitive was not having time to purchase at each stop. The tour guide, Nicole, was wonderful. We would love to try the other food tours!

I am a chef and foodie, so I know a little bit about food and ingredients, but my wife and i still learned a lot. Coleen (our guide) was hilarious and super knowledgeable about food in Chicago and even gave us a tour of notable buildings in the area. Lots of fun, lots of food, cool exproration, would totally do it again! Thanks guys!

Interesting neighbourhood, good food

The neighbourhood was very interesting and it was good to get out of downtown. Our guide, Kent, clearly loved his city and he provided information on the neighbourhood as we walked, as well as some background on the restaurants we visited. This tour is a very convenient way of hitting some restaurants and shops you otherwise wouldn't likely have time for and seeing a different area of Chicago. All of the food was very good too! Well worth the time and money.

It would be hard to criticize this tour. The food stops were very good and you certainly weren't hungry at the end. We went back to 3 of the stores to buy gifts for ourselves and family. You see stores and foods that you might not try out on your own. Overall a great time and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves to try new things.

Make sure you start this tour with an empty stomach! The food is great and the variety of locations we visited was good. The tour guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the tour area. AND she provided ponchos for the torrential downpour during the tour, which only made the tour more interesting! THANKS! Would definitely recommend this tour to others, whether locals or visitors.

Our guide, Nicole, was both fun and very informative. She was genuinely enthusiastic which made the tour even better. The selection of neighborhood specialty food locations was a wonderful variety of tastings to tempt our palates. I had requested no dairy (if possible) and each location was very accommodating. The history of Old Town and the Gold Coast was well presented. We will definitely do another tour in the future.

Warning: Poor treatment of customers
Sun, Jun 17, 12   11:00 AM troppito Unspecified Unspecified Combination Family With Children
We were visiting Chicago to visit family & booked a food tasting tour as a group activity. One tour time was listed on the website for the Sunday Near North tour. Each of the 2 family groups booked separately for the same date and day slot for the tour. When we arrived at the tour on Sunday, we learned that the tour agency had taken it upon themselves to create 3 separate tours, departing at 11am, 11:30am, and 12:00pm. We learned that our family had been booked in 2 different tour groups. Since the entire point of the day was to spend time with our family, we asked Chicago Food Planet Tours to accomodate us. They refused. We spent the next 30 minutes making our case and arguing that they should not have indescriminately assigned us to different tour times without our consent. It was not pleasant and it put a damper on the entire tour. We finally succeeded to get people from one of the other tours to switch. Chicago Food Planet needs to subscribe to more professional business practices. Knowing what we know now, we can't recommend this tour company.

Fun tour gives you a taste of Chicago

We enjoyed the Near North Tour because it gave us a chance to learn more about a particular neighborhood in Chicago and sample a variety of foods. My husband's favorite was the pastrami reuben at the Ashkenaz Deli and pizza slice at Lou Malnati's, while I especially enjoyed the vinegar sampling at Old Town Oil, the 10-minute talk with Tom Erd at The Spice House, and luscious fresh macaroons at Delightful Pastries. Included in the tour are discount coupons which we used the next day to make several purchases which the merchants were able to ship to our home. Very convenient and easy. You also get a nice tour of the neighborhood. A fun way to experience Chicago.
