Interesting and very filling tour

My husband and I really enjoyed the tour - and the tour guide Jonathan was super- but we were so full by the 4th restaurant that we couldn't do the pizza justice and make a fair judgement for the vote for favorite at the end of the tour. That, of course, is our own fault - we shouldn't have snarfed down the whole serving at each location! We started at 11 a.m. with 3 pieces of pizza (each a different topping and crust) at the first location, then full slices of 2 more varieties at the 2nd location (plus wonderful crusty bread and olive oil for dipping), then a large slice of very deep dish at the 3rd location, and finally full slices of 2 more varieties at the last location. Jonathan told us we would be eating 2-3 pounds of pizza before we were through - and we enjoyed them all! Jonathan was full of information about the history of the pizza families in Chicago, the buildings that we passed, the neighborhood history for each restaurant location, and even worked in an unscheduled stop for photos of Harpo studios. Our tour included a large contingent of employees from one company and they tended to talk among themselves very loudly - but Jonathan was a good compensator and I don't think we missed any of his information. We heartily recommend this tour.

Our tour guide was awesome, can't remember his name, but he had plenty of info of the city and pizza. However tempted, do not go for seconds, you won't enjoy the last slice. I'm not much for doing the same thing again, but next time I'm in Chicago I will do the tour again.

Overall good experience; would change some venues

My group and I enjoyed this tour overall. We had fun, the hosts were both very personable, although each very different in personality from the other. It was odd that they switched out hosts in mid-tour the way they did. That was a little off-putting, I have to say. They were entertaining and did keep the conversation going throughout the evening and managed the timing and food at each venue very professionally. I don't think anyone felt rushed or unwelcome or unattended to. Their venue choices, while providing a good variety of styles of pizza, which was nice, could have been a little better. Two of the venues, Bella Bacino and Pequod's Pizza, could have been swapped out for better places, in my opinion. The quality of the pizza at Bella Bacino was similar to an Edwardos or more common type of stuffed pizza, although the room was very cozy and nice. I wouldn't consider their stuffed pizza a top Chicago offering. There was some difference of opinion among my group as to the quality and type of pizza served at Pequods, so I allow that perhaps their style of pan pizza was not my particular cup of tea. But the actual bar/restaurant was really a mess. I didn't feel it was clean in there and was not thrilled with the experience of eating there overall. I would delete it from their list if I were the management of the tour. I'm certain Chicago has better venues to offer with similar style pizza to keep up the variety. All that said, we enjoyed the tour and would do it again. Flo and Santos (first stop) was excellent and our hands-down favorite. Pizza Serio was also excellent, although with a bit sparser atmosphere. We'd go to that one again too. None of us could consume our pre-paid wine or beer at each venue as we wouldn't have been able to function! So in that sense, the pre-paid price wound up being a bit high for what we wound up consuming (2 drinks apiece instead of 4). Most of the people on our tour were locals, which was not what we expected, but we did enjoy the company of some visitors from D.C. who were in for a convention. That was fun. If you go, enjoy! It's worth doing if you're a local, just to feel like you've gone somewhere else for a few hours.

More than just a pizza tour!!

I was just expecting to eat pizza at 4 different places, but its much more than that. Jonathan(sp.) our tour guide was awesome!! At our first stop (Pizano's), he had a detailed backstory about how the pizzeria came to be. Lots of fun facts about the Malnati family, and then it was on to the pizza. He was very descriptive and enthusiastic about pizza. It was then on to the next pizzeria. Throughout the rides from place to place, he provided a lot of great facts and interesting tidbits about the wonderful city of Chicago. The pizzas all differed in one way or another, but one thing that is for sure is that all of them were delicious in their own unique manner. I highly recommend this tour to any pizza enthusiast (Who isn't?) and if you're new to the city of Chicago. Thumbs way up and I honestly wouldn't mind taking the tour again! Keep up the great work.

I am sooo glad that we went on this tour. Jonathan was funny and extremely knowledgeable, not just about pizza, but about Chicago. I knew that we'd get to try different types of pizza, but I never really thought about how different pizza could be until this tour. Each type of pizza was delicious in their own way, esp the southern tavern thin crust and coal fire pizza. Our tour guide really made me appreciate the different styles of pizza and taught us lots of fun facts about the city along the way. The tour far exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in pizza and some Chicago history. Heck, I''d take the tour again the next time I visit! (There were even locals in our tour group, which I think says a lot about this tour company's reputation.)

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the different pizza places we went to and gave us a little history on different places we passed as we were going to the different pizza places. All the pizza places had good pizza. I like the variety of the different kinds of pizza too.

Good chance to taste local pizza with new friends

Pizza slices were great and varied. Guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Met people from all over and it was a good mix. Only difficult thing was the length of tour. Difficult if trying to fit a few things in for a holiday weekend. Would recommend it.

My wife and I went on the Chicago Pizza Tour expecting some good food (which we received in spades) but got so much more. Danny, our tour guide was awesome, giving us a lot of Chicago history, both general and as it pertained to the various pizza locales we attended — and didn't attend. He also gave us a lot of other recommendations (like the Portillo's Chocolate Cake Shake—Mmmm!) which have all proven to be winners, too. The pizza was terrific, the value was unmatched, the company was friendly, and the afternoon was just fantastic.

The variety of pizza cannot be over-emphasized and we were both stuffed by the end. Great pizza, great restaurants, our guide is hilarious and really made the trip fun. If you want to get a crash course in how good pizza in Chicago can get and have a ton of fun doing it, this is the tour for you!

My wife, hard to please 15 year old son, and I thoroughly enjoyed the historical insight.sights, and 7 or 8 different slices of pizza at 4 very different restaurants. Over 3 hours we were able to pace ourselves. left very full, with leftovers for our two kids that couldn't join us. Got chicago and pizza history and saw several different neighborhoods. Highly recommend for a family or group looking for a great time.

Excellent tour!

The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the city and the origin of the pizza. And he was also open to questions about the city that was outside of the normal tour. This made it a very enjoyable experience for us.
