Though I've been to New York several times, this tour took me on a journey through the city like never before. It kind of helped me fall in love with the city all over again.
The guide, Jonathan, emulates New York's great character: enthusiasm, culture and style. He made the tour extra special with his delectable wit and knowledge.
I'm thirsty for a chocolate egg cream just thinking about it. |

A great and tasty tour of an interesting neighborhood. Lots of interesting background on what you are seeing and tasting. Everything a tour should be. |

I have been on number of tours and this one we did not enjoy. The food stops generally were uninteresting, particularly the cookie shop and the cupcake shop. Maybe the East Village just isn't that interesting. |

Ukranian stops (2) were excellent, egg cream great, Chan's desserts provocative. Would have a different ethnic food instead of pizza. Great commentary on architecture history... could have had more trivia. |

I've been on a number of the tours and have never been disappointed. While this wasn't the best one, it was still good from a historical and informational perspective. Our guide was very kind and helpful. I think because of the small size of our group, the food tastings were limited considering that area of the city. But if you want to know more about NYC, take the tour. |

This tour was a lot of fun, I felt like I learned more about New York City, and the tastings were enjoyable. Susan was a great tour leader. Highly recommended! |

Come hungry because the tour and the food are great along this tour of the best spots in the East Village. The tour gives a small historic background of the neighborhood without becoming a historical tour: this is about the food. You hit NYC classics like pizza and hot dog, but also some lesser known foods like egg cream (which has no eggs) and some up-and-coming restaurants starting to add to the food scene in the East Village. A great tour but I would reccomend the Artisan Food Tour of the Lower East Side even more. Also, most of the tour guides are trained chefs and know the food scene in NY pretty well, so come prepared with questions about the best sushi or best brunch in the city and they will point you in the right direction. |

I had a great time on this tour. Our tour guide was helpful, knowledgeable, and blessed with a delightfully affable manner. She acted like she really enjoyed what she was doing.
The stops were interesting, except for Motofuku, which I found to be way too noisy and way to crowded to be pleasant. I found Braczinsky's Meat Market a fascinating place because of the men that worked there. Most were Ukranian and spoke very good English. The veal loaf and cheese on bread was delicious.
However, for me the star was the borscht at Verselka's. It was the first borscht that I have had that actually has a texture to it, in other words...was not pureed.
The hot dog sample was too small and not a good representation, in my opinion, of a NY hor dog
Overall, I enjoyed the two and a half hours and would consider another food tour on my next visit to NYC.

We enjoyed the tour - particularly as it was a small group.
We found the food a bit on the sweet side - but probably that is a matter of taste. |
