I thought the tour was one of the best things we did in New York. I loved the intertwining of history with the food tour.

A Great Two Hours!

This tour was awesome. I'm a chef and Brooklyn resident and took the tour to find out more about food in the Lower East Side. Our guide Nicole was informative and engaging; I learned about the culture of the neighborhood and all the great food finds the LES has to offer. I'd highly recommend the tour to locals and visitors looking to check out a cool area and sample delicious food.

Our tour guide was fun and knew the area well. She talked food and resturants in the area and we learned a lot in a short time. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to find out whats happening in the Lower East Side.

Okay

I am a NYC local and I have been on a few city food tours, this was my least favorite. Everything we tasted was sweet, with the exception of two items. Also, compared to the other tours I didn't feel I got a real sense of the history of the Lower East Side. It was an okay way to spend 2 hours, but I wouldn't tell anyone to run to it.

Our intelligent, well-informed, personable and enthusiastic guide both educated and delighted us with a wealth of knowledge not only about NYC neighborhood history and lore, but about food preparation and enjoyment as well.

Memorable Memorial Day weekend in the LES

Conrad, our tour guide doesn't just tell you facts and stats. He makes the city come to life with interesting stories of the people who make the LES what it is today. I'm use to taking visiting friends on a whirlwind tour of the city, but Conrad took us on an in-depth tour of a few blocks that pulls you away from the tourist traps and into the heart of NYC. Toss your guide book aside! Let Conrad be your gatekeeper to a story that is just as fulfilling as the food you taste. To all the Chocolate lovers out there - Conrad is your man. You will not find this tour in any DIY tour book, it is worth every penny.

I brought my mom on this tour (I have lived in New York for 5 years) for an early mothers day weekend. Both of us had a blast. And even though I've been living here for a few years, it was one of the coolest and most cultural experiences I've had so far. We learned all about the neighborhood, met so many interesting people who are so passionate about their food and work. It was inspirational. Now we're planning on seeing each tour! There are no drawbacks that I can think of, except make sure to bring cash so you can buy treats along the way!

Unique informative history & food tour

I lived in NYC 20 years ago and each year when I come back, I tend to visit the same places. The City Foods tour I took along with my 16 year old daughter, showed me how much I've been missing. Conrad our guide, gave an informative history of the Lower East Side and the Bowery. While walking through the area we stopped to eat the most amazing chocolate doughnut, then, enjoyed coffee at a unique coffee shop. (A couple eavesdropped on our tour outside one of these stops and they commented they learned more from Conrads talk then they had in their 2 years living in the neighborhood.) The market we visited had some sinfully rich bon-bons ,exquisite cheeses and Jeffrey put on an amazing show & meal in less than 3 minutes. Of course, we finished our tour with an amazing desert. I can not wait to return to each of the places we visited. What could be a better way to spend a Saturday than eating great food, meeting interesting people, while taking a history lesson and enjoying it. I thought I knew a bit about the Lower East Sde but Conrad was an enlightened guide. His assistants were also very helpful. I would highly reccomend this tour to out of towners and New Yorkers. There was just enough walking and the amount of the tastings (we could have seconds and some of us thirds for items we enjoyed) wasn't too much or too little. I will defintely go on other tours offered with City Foods .

Great route - guide a bit lacklustre

We went to some great neighbourhood places that we would never have found on our own and really enjoyed the whole thing. Our guide didn't give us as much information about the neighbourhood, its history etc. which was disappointing. The focus was most definitely on the food. The theme we had been promised was an insight into the gentrification of the neighbourhood. In the end, this really didn't feature at all during the tour and I am no more enlightened about the history of the Lower East Side now than before I went on it.
