GREAT FUN - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Sun, Jun 28  2:00 PM Donnabensik Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
If your looking for a great way to explore a new city, this is it! Not only will you get the inside scoop on the area, architecture and history you'll discover fabulous local establishments you might otherwise never happen upon as some are hidden treasures only a tour guide knows about! Once you discover them however, you'll be hooked! Some of the best chocolate, wine and desserts you'll ever sample! Don't forget to grab the business cards from these great locales as you'll surely do the mail order thing once you get home! Incredibly fun way to spend an afternoon!

Not your typical NYC tour
Fri, Jun 26  11:00 AM Frayrick Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
My wife & I were visiting NYC for our 26th anniversary. We'd been on typical bus tours. This was different. We enjoyed the insight our tour guide provided about the cultural & historical background of the areas: Irish, Jewish, beat, etc. and especially liked visiting the neighborhood shops & specialties: the pickle maker, the bialys maker, the super fresh ground coffee shop, the "wild" flavored gelato maker, the terrific donut maker--my wife liked the carrot cake donut the best, the chocolatier who kept giving us more samples, and the cheese maker shop, etc. and sampling their wares while they explained how they produced them. We got a good sense of the places and neighborhoods we visited. It was obvious that the relationship between our tour guide and each of the shop owners was strong and well established. We felt as if we were just moving into the neighborhood and being introduced to & welcomed by everyone. Very personalized tour. All our questions were answered even if a little bizarre. The tour was never hurried, but was well paced. We have already told our family & friends about it, even those who have visited NYC before were interested.

Great Taste of Philadelphia!

On a recent trip to Philadelphia, a friend and I signed up for this tour...she is not a foodie, I am. Needless to say, by the end of the tour, I think I've created a monster and I now have a foodie-in-training on my hands. The amount of information is just right-informative enough to teach you something you probably didn't already know...but it's definitely not boring. Made me want to research and learn more about the 3 items we tasted-cheese, tea, and chocolate. Everyone we encountered-the cheesmonger at DiBruni brothers, the adorable pregnant lady at the teahouse, and the employees at the chocolatier-were all knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic. I would recommend this tour to anyone traveling to Philly-you will need a break from the history and all of the touristy stuff! It is worth every penny and you will welcome the change of pace! Even though I have been to NYC 3 times already, I will most likely be doing a food tour there as well by this company-all in all 5 stars! great experience!

A Delicious and Relaxing Tour of Upper West Side
Sun, Jun 14  2:00 PM thatspoetic Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Unspecified
My boyfriend and I went on the Upper West Side tour with Nicole. We made 6 stops and sampled a wide variety of great food. Our tastings included chocolates at two fancy chocolate stores, gelato, an amazing chocolate chip cookie, a sliver of pizza, and some wine and cheese. I would have missed a lot of these shops if I had been exploring on my own. The sample sizes were good. They were enough to get a good taste, but small enough to make sure you had room to eat all the other samples later. I was glad I only ate a light lunch though because I was pretty full by the end of the two and a half hour tour. The pace of the tour was also good. It wasn't rushed and we were given time to look around the stores after the samplings. Nicole was very friendly and knowledgeable and willing to offer suggestions about all sorts of things. I enjoyed when she discussed the history of the area briefly at the beginning of the tour and talked about chocolate making, but I wish there had been more of this throughout the tour. The tour wasn't quite as historical or informative as I had expected, perhaps because of the area where it took place, but it was still enjoyable. Francois, the manager of the wine store who gave us a brief presentation, was great. He was very laid back and extremely knowledgeable. It was a great opportunity to learn about wine and ask some questions. Overall, it was a fun way to spend the afternoon for someone visiting New York City. It was nice to get away from the crowds in the super-touristy areas and visit some locally owned shops. This tour has a "wandering around with friends trying lots of places" type of laid back feel so if you're looking to learn a lot about history or culture from a tour, you may want to pick a different one. Otherwise, it is a relaxing way to try some new desserts and get a general sense of the Upper West Side area.

This tour was a lot of fun. We took the cheese, chocolate and gelato tour. The guide was great, very knowledgeable and made it all fun. The food was delicious and I tried things I never would have tried on my own. I would go back anytime and highly recommend this tour.

Had a great time!

We were a small group of eight people, three sets of mothers and daughters and one young married couple. Our tour leader, Nicole, was great. She was warm, friendly and knowledgeable. By the end of the afternoon we all felt as if we had known each other for years! We visited chocolatiers, bakeries, one homemade ice cream truck and two wine shops. The shop owners were friendly and were more than willing to answer any questions we had. We will definitely book another tour.

I attended this tour with my mom, Godmother and cousin as a Mother's day gift and we all had a great time. We were lucky enough to have 4 other people on our tour that were delightful and friendly and Nicole, our guide, was wonderful! She was full of information and friendly and made sure we had a good time. We made 7 stops along the way and each one was informative, fun and tasty. I will definitely be making plans for the other tours in Manhattan and I hope more will be added in the future. It's definitely a great way to spend the day in the city with family or friends and I will be spreading the word!

My daughter and I went on this tour and had the best time with Jennifer! She's knowledgable, fun and knew her stuff! We tasted some of the best sweets and chocolates in the city and ended with a fantastic wine tasting from the oldest "grocer" in the city. You won't regret this tour!

overpriced for what you get
Sat, May 23  11:00 AM kn4him Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
I was VERY disappointed in this food tour. In fact, it shouldn’t even be advertised as a food tour. It was incredibly informative, but we took the tour to sample food. We had taken a food tour through Greenwich Village and were very pleased so we decided to branch out to other tours. If you’re looking for a food tour, this will not meet your expectations. The write up is misleading. We did not experience things that aren’t offered to the public. The interactive challenge was identifying a variety of spices the host had in her bag. Shopping like a chef really meant spending five minutes walking through a kitchen store. I know this company is up and coming, but they need A LOT of work if they want to be competitive. The “Top Chef” theme was a great idea, but poorly carried out.

My friend and I have previously taken the Chelsea Market walking tour and this tour didn't even compare. Nearly every business we visited was so small we couldn't go inside and there were only 6 of us on the tour. We weren't able to see how the food was prepared and served. The tour guide was informative but not especially engaging. Two thumbs down!!

We learned of this tour from a CNN travel article and decided that we would take a friend and fellow foodie on a tour as her wedding shower present! We were NOT disappointed!! Our tour guide Jennifer was well informed, personable and organized! She kept all 10 of us moving along within our alloted time frame, but was never pushy! We loved the fact that she also has a culinary degree, she answered all of our cooking questions.. from roasted cauliflower to how you make chocolate (YES!)! We would highly recommend this tour to anyone.. we're already planning our next food tour!! Thanks so much Jennifer and City Foods!! We had a BLAST!
