Great family activity

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our family is my wife and two 20-something daughters plus me, and this was our Mothers Day event. Worked out great. Interesting dialog with the tour guide, great eats, pleasant company from the other participants, really a fine way to pass the afternoon. Might not work as well with small children but what really does?

Girls Group on Chocolate, Dessert and Wine Tour

The Chocolate, Dessert and Wine Tour was a really great experience for myself and 3 friends. Our tour guide, Dan, was very informative and able to answer any questions raised, together with useful facts about the local area and buildings. Each of the 6 places visited provided delicious food and drink, backed up by interesting facts about product history and production. Although there was only one wine stop, the wine was not limited to one tasting and there was so much information given by the wine merchant and around the shop, we could have spent a whole afternoon in there alone. I would recommend this tour to anyone with a sweet tooth and/or partial to the odd glass of wine. This is the second City Food Tour I have experienced and can't wait to return to New York and sign up for more! My friends now also have an enthusiasm for more tours on future visits.

Overpriced for what you actually do and get

The tour was nice and enjoyable. The guide was knowledgeable and the choice of places was good; however the sample sizes were very small; thus the amount of time spent versus the samples is not worth the cost of the tour.

I may not have read the description closely, but I was expecting a tour that combined the desserts and wine along the trip. The first stop at the bar gave us three different samples of their wine to drink, and the guide gave us each a chocolate square. After that stop, the next five stops were only desserts - a partial cookie, cream puff, hot chocolate, donuts, and bread. For the price I wasn't impressed. Our guide, Dan, was super nice though and answered any questions.

I thought that there would be more wine stops. We only stopped one time for wine. The chocolate and desserts were delicious, I just expected out of all the different stops we made more than one stop would have wine.

Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a great time. The desserts were amazing. My only recommendation would be to add 1 or 2 more wine tasting stops. There was only 1 wine tasting location. The one we stopped at was great...it was Pour. They were very friendly and the wine was great.

I had a wonderful time on the Upper West Side dessert tour. The tour began with a concise history of New York City given by our tour guide, Dan. He was incredibly engaging and knowledgable and I learned a lot of interesting tidbits. Dan then took us to a variety of dessert stops. My favorite was the first stop, Lumaca cookies at Grandaisy Bakery. It was like an Italian version of a rugelach. Flaky and dense at the same time, filled with apricot and nuts and yumminess. I didn't think that would be my favorite but it really wowed me. We stopped at a wine shop for wine tastings, and I was pleasantly surprised when the employee brought out fruity sparkling wines and ciders! Not what I expected, but the sparkilng peach wine was so delightful that I went back after the tour and bought a bottle. The rest of the desserts were delicious and it was the perfect amount of food- I was very full but not stuffed to the point where I couldn't move. Dan did an excellent job making sure everyone had what they needed. I'd definitely recommend this tour and any other tour that Dan leads. I hope to go on another one soon!

Tastes you probably wouldn't find on your own

The guide gave us the history of Manhattan. That was interesting info we didn't know from before. He was polite and awnsered any questions we had. Everything we tasted was very good, and we would never have found those local small bakeries on our own. We expected that the places we visited knew that we were coming. We thought we were getting a little tour in the places we visited. Not only taste their food. The wine tasting was good. They knew we were coming, and they told us a little bit about what we were drinking.

There were 6 of us. We enjoyed the whole day. Our tour guide was friendly and also added ALOT of other information of each area we visited. We had a great time and look forward to coming into the city and browsing that area again to revisit some tour stops and also other shops in that area. Would recommend it to other friends as well.

Dan, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the upper West Side and the history of it. He took us to a local wine shop where we had a great wine tasting, several whites and reds, along with time to purchase wines. We also visited three bakeries, one with perfect creampuffs, one with awesome chocolate chip cookes (right out of the oven and warm and huge) and another with bombolonis - Italian doughnuts filled with hazelnut filling. We were so full that we actually had to bring some samples home as we couldn't finish everything. We also visited a chocolate shop where we had a lesson in how chocolate is made and we sampled hot chocolate (amazing) and chocolate bark. They had a wonderful display of Easter candy to buy. We all took advantage of it. All in all, we had a great time. Dan said he would e-mail us the names of the shops we visited as we will definitely go back. We would definitely recommend it.
