Mixed feelings about this event

The tour my friend and I signed up for was cancelled two days before the event. We were given the option of signing up for one of three other different tours. The woman who told me of this change was curt and rude in our phone call. We then sent her an email with our choice and some additional questions. She was again rude in her response to us. The guide for our tour was very knowledgeable and personable, but the tour itself was shorter than expected and nowhere as interesting or in depth as similar tours run by other companies in NYC. I would hesitate before signing up for another tour by this company |

The New York City tour in the East Village was great. The food is more than enough to fill you up and our tour guide was informative, nice and funny. I didn't expect so much history of the neighborhood to be included so that was a pleasant surprise. I also loved the variety of food from pizza to borscht. Vegetarians and those with food allergies are well catered to. Minimal walking was a plus :) |

I live in NYC, but I was able to see and eat my way through the neighborhood of Nolita like I'd never known before! One of my favorite things to do in life is to explore cities around the world, and eat at local establishments. At a friend's recommendation, I signed up for the Nolita Food Tour right in my backyard, and visited places I've never even noticed, as well as learning about the history of a few places I have been to.
The tour guide was very informative and patient with everyone's questions and eating times, which was a plus. The best part of the tour however, was the food itself. I was able to sample a variety of foods such as Vietnamese sandwiches, Spanish candies, Italian cheese, pizza, quiche, and cannoli.
The tour was two hours and was very relaxed and easily walk-able (only several streets overall, with breaks to eat in between). I highly recommend this tour for people of all ages, who is interested in tasting and learning about a few of the best eats in the Nolita neighborhood. |

My friend told me that she was going to take me to City Food Tours as a birthday gift back in November. Since we wanted to wait until the weather was warmer, we decided to book our food tour for June. Due to my absolute love for dessert, I chose the Upper West Side dessert tour, and I must say I was extremely satisfied and happy with my choice. When we arrived at the location, our tour guide, Dan, was waiting for us and he was very easy to spot, just as the description had said. He greeted us and kindly informed us that our tour would begin at 3pm. At 3, Dan gathered us around and gave a great historical description of the Upper West Side, and informed us of things I never even knew as a native New Yorker! He was very knowledgable, and I must say he made the experience a great one for us. He knew everything about the food items, and any questions we had, he could answer with ease. What a friendly guy!
Now onto the food: I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the portions were big!!! I thought we were going to nibble on some items, but the first item we ate was enormous and really set the tone for the rest of the tour. By the end I was stuffed, but in the best way possible!!!
Thank you City Food Tours for making my birthday celebration so wonderful! |

We saw a part of New York we might not visit on a normal trip to the city. The first few stops were fantastic - banh mi, yuca fries and churros were delicious and not our normal fare. The last three stops were unremarkable: hard candy, cheeses and canolli. We thought that walking down Mulberry meant some actual Italian fare would be on the menu. The guide was adequate but not spectacular. |

The first stop of this tour was the sandwich which was great but the rest of the stops were all disappointing. There were way too many desserts and the yucca fries weren't anything special either...Basically there were cannoli's, churros, candy....I expected tapas at the spanish restaurant because the web site says tapas....the artisan candy store was no big deal and didn't really fit in exactly....the cannoli's were fine...the cheese shop was okay. I've been on a greenwich village food tour which had a better selection of foods to taste, not so many desserts. We even got a glass of wine at one stop on that tour. I would not recommend this to others. You need to start out with an appetizer type restaurant sample, then the cheese, then an entree, than something other unique side dish and then a dessert. |

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our family is my wife and two 20-something daughters plus me, and this was our Mothers Day event. Worked out great. Interesting dialog with the tour guide, great eats, pleasant company from the other participants, really a fine way to pass the afternoon. Might not work as well with small children but what really does? |

A really nice and interesting way to get to know a part of New York. The guide was very enthusiastic and interesting to listen to. We had really good apetaizers in all the seven stops and I liked the area (east village). I strongly recommend it. |

Our group had so much fun! We loved visiting each shop and enjoying the fare--and our guide, Matt! At the outset, it turned out our bus would be arriving later than we expected. Joyce was SO helpful to calm our fears and assure us that we could be part of the tour as soon as we arrived. We, being not so savvy in NY, she helped us navigate with clear instructions. Our guide, Matt, also was so kind(as we did arrive late and missed a stop) and understanding (fun too!) and even brought us a sampling from the first stop! (which he did not have to as the info stated clearly you should be on time and even early which was totally understandable) We were expecting a tasting, but instead had an abundance of delicious food! We enjoyed delicious doughnuts, coffee, wonderful guacamole, brick oven pizza, and a large serving of Greek fries and skewers of seasoned pork and chicken with a tasty dip. There was ample water and time given for restroom breaks. We ended at a unique candy shop with candy from today and yesteryear. We also listened to interesting histories of many of the shop's beginnings as well as local history. We visited a farmer's market and had a few minutes to walk there also. All in all, I would highly recommend this tour to others. It was fun meeting the others from our group and enjoying the food in a relaxed atmosphere! It was a part of NY we had never explored before! Thanks, City Food Tours!!! |

Honestly the tour fell short of our expectations. The food was average at best and the portion sizes were very small. Wouldn't do this again. |

Matt was our guide, and he was excellent. He not only took us to different establishments to sample the food but he also gave us a history of the Lower East Side, telling us about each food place when we went there. The small group was a good size and we had the opportunity to talk with others in the group about the food and about other places to visit in New York. I plan to do this tour again the next time I visit New York City. |
