The tour guide was excellent. But the foods were not very good, or particularly exotic. I expected that on an ethnic food tour. |

This tour was absolutely wonderful! I had my reservations at first when I booked it not knowing what to expect. We did a Saturday tour with Laura and we had a cozy sized group. Laura was a knowledgeable New Yorker who knew her city well, but wasn't over bearing about it. She was thorough, patient and very pleasant. The reason why I say everyone should consider a tour like this one is because even though I've been to NYC several times, we visited food establishments that I normally would have missed out on. We focused on small businesses that had strong roots and amazing food offerings. I seem to think with all the choices NYC has to offer and the big flashing lights, sometimes the real quality and experiences could be missed by new visitors. My only regret was we didn't stay in the city longer to go back and enjoy our tour stops again. |

I have been on two other tours and this one was not worth the money. The amount of history was insignificant. The food forgettable. The only shining star was that it was a 2:00 pm tour on a Saturday. |

I have been on number of tours and this one we did not enjoy. The food stops generally were uninteresting, particularly the cookie shop and the cupcake shop. Maybe the East Village just isn't that interesting. |

We live in the NYC metro area and visit the city often (5-6 times a year), but we had never explored the Lower East Side before this tour. We found it very interesting and learned a lot about the history of the area.
Our tour guide, Jonathan, was knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. High fives all around for Jonathan.
We were a bit disappointed in the food offered, as it was not at all what was advertised online. What they advertise:
Taste a variety of treats from the colorful neighborhood of the Lower East Side such as:
* Mango, green tea & dulce de leche donuts
* Greek olive tapenade on crackers
* Specialty sandwiches
* Farmstead sheep's milk cheese from Spain
* Freshly ground and brewed Fair Trade organic coffee
* Locally made chocolate bon bons
* Crunchy garlic pickles
* Freshly cooked poultry
* Decadent pastries & cupcakes
* Honeydew sorbet & blueberry white chocolate gelato
What we got:
Donut pieces
Bialy pieces with cream cheese
Soft pretzel pieces with three dipping sauces
A pickle
A thimble sized cup of coffee
A visit to Economy Candy where we could buy our own candy, but none was provided
A very small slice of pizza |

I loved the places that we went -- a mixture of classical ethnic foods and interesting new twists. Our tour guide was fantastic. She was very knowledgable about the area, the food, and was unfailingly nice and helpful. I loved the tour and will probably take another tour from this company in the future. |

Amanda was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. We enjoyed viewing the neighborhood - so different from Times Square - as a walking tour. I would have liked a bit more background about the establishment of the neighborhood and current trends for restaurants in the area. Each food venue was welcoming and I appreciated that we had time to buy a couple of items at each place. Ending at the pub was perfect - our group was a lot of fun! I could not believe the amount of beer and cheese that was offered ... far more than a sampler! The final pub (eek! can't remember the name!) was awesome to our group ... made us feel very welcome! Brenna - sorry we couldn't make it to Company on Saturday ... out time ran out! Hope you had a terrific visit with your mom and sister! |

NOLITA w/Laura..a winning combination!

Our guide Laura organized a superb tour of NOLITA. Her food choices were excellent and knowledge of the historic area was impressive. Here's a few of the 7 stops:
We started with 2 kinds of Italian breads, proscuito and provolone. Then, an Indian style chicken roll with 4 dipping sauces served with a generous cup of their home made lemonade. Really good stuff and it got better. Later, we tried the popular Vietnamese banh mi pork and veggie sandwich. It was served on warm bread and just delicious. Lucky for me I got a second one.
We had 10 people in our group and I would say that we did more eating and less walking on this one. I can't wait to go back for some more mango-chile and
chile-lime hand made candies at that cool specialty shop. This tour is highly recommended and definitely come hungry. Thanks Laura!

Not the best food tour in NYC

This tour started well with some good historical information about the East Village but soon became pretty ordinary. We were shunted around by busy restaurants that didn't really want us to be there and it was not that welcoming at times. Most of the food we tasted was very good but the portions were tiny compared to other food tours I've done.
I also thought it a little strange that the tour guide settled the checks at the end of each visit. What would be wrong with offering the tour company an account. Again, this is a practice I have not seen on any other food tour I've done. |

Our guide Laura was lovely. She organized a really nice adventure of the LES. Laura was fun and quite knowledgeable of the area and we even went over the 2 hours provided. Some of the 6 stops included were:
We started with dulce de leche donuts that were out of this world. I understand that when this secret donut hot-spot sells out (and they do) they close up shop. Later, we sampled 3 individual cheeses from around the world. One of them was a goat cheese, which was the best I ever had. After a bit of walking, the sit-down at the Italian restaurant/brick oven pizzeria was very nice. Who wouldn't like a nice slice of margarita pizza straight out of the oven?
The unexpected surprise was a short stop at a candy store that had a huge inventory and some of my childhood favorites, including candy cigarettes and pez dispensers. (I can say no more) Towards the end of the tour, the never-ending truffles were just amazing. Some of the 4 different truffles we tried were the spicy rum 'Carrot Cake' and the rich dark chocolate w/ginger 'Dark and Stormy'...and that Mango mini-popsicle in the park really hit the spot.
Yes, I recommend this tour to everybody, it has a sweet side to it and we all have one, too. Great job Laura!

We really enjoyed this tour. We have been on almost all of the food tours and loved them all. This tour was different in that there was a lot of eastern European flavors, which we loved. The tour guide was great. She had culinary experience which made what she had to say even more interesting. |
