This tour was wonderfully presented and enthusiastically received from my group of friends. There was a very good balance between sampling, information and some social time. I would highly recommend this tour for groups of people looking for something interesting and fun to do. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, pleasant and extremely entertaining.

A great way to not only spend some time together on a unique date but also to discover some of my city's best treasures. As a foodie, I was expecially thrilled by the experience of meeting the proprietors/experts. Our guide was hysterical, thoroughly knowledgeable and great at facilitating interaction in our group, which was made up of mostly couples who did not know each other. Sign me up for another as soon as possible!

Was roped into this by my wife and really had a great time. Our guide was funny, the tasting was hearty and, even though I am admittedly a "PB&J" kind of cook, I learned a lot. It was a great date, got us downtown for a few hours and introduced us to some cool spots. We will definitely do this again.

Get a taste of the Lower East Side

We really enjoyed our food tour of the Lower East Side! I had never been to this part of New York and this was a great way to be introduced to it. The tour was very interesting and informative ... and of course, delicious! We learned about food and history particular to this area. I can still taste those fantastic doughnuts from Planet Doughnut and the amazing cheeses from Formaggio's Kitchen. Our tour guide was wonderful -- knowledgeable and funny. I would heartily recommend this tour to anyone interested in exploring the Lower East Side and getting to sample some of it's culinary delights.

I found this food tour to have quite a bit of information that was interesting and educational. The guide Matt was engaging and well informed although sometimes a bit over the top with his enthusiam. I will definately take another food tour and will actually be returning to the lower east side to re-explore the area ,and visit the sights and shops that were not open the day I took my tour. I enjoyed all of the history that was reviewed during the tour. Especially enjoyed the Essex Market and all of the venders. Thanks for a great informative food and history tour.

City Food Tours offers a worth-while tour of the Lower East Side, that combines the neighborhood's rich history with its emerging gormet food scene. An engaging guide, delicious food - on a beautiful afternoon, it's a great way to learn about a neighborhood that few visitors ever explore. Great for the locals too!

I stumbled upon the website for City Foods and am I ever glad I did! This was a first rate experience. My "group" only consisted of me and a friend, but instead of cancelling, the show went on....Our guides, Rob and Jose were extremely knowledgeable and personable. If you want the "insider's" perspective on where the "foodies" hang out in Philly, this is the tour for you. Initially I was concerned about the 2 1/2 hour time frame on a cold February evening, but later discovered that applies to the length of time and not the amount of walking. This is a great idea and I would recommend it highly. I plan to go back to some of the places we went to and would certainly book another tour again.

An excellent way to spend a few hours. Tour guides are local and know the city and its history so in addition to learning about your scheduled stops, they offer other areas and places to visit as well. Gives the history and current processing information about teas, chocolates, and cheeses, without the bordom. Great for a date or if you are just curious to try something new and different. Tour guides are very personable and you get the sense they want to be there as well.

I signed up for the tour as a surprise for my husband for Valentine's Day. It was fun, romantic and delicious! Our leaders were extremely well organized, knowledgeable and lots of fun. They made everyone in the group feel like a part of things. We would definitely go on their other tours in the future.

We took a couple visiting us from Connecticut to the Philadelphia Foods Tour on Sunday, February 17th. The whole thing was FANTASTIC and we cannot wait to go again on one of the other tours. We took the "Chocolate & Gourmet" tour which included gelatto, chocolate and cheese. The guides were very professional and knowledgeable. They were also very well prepared with laminated pictures and information about the processes of making all three of the foods. Included in the tour was tasting at each venue - and it was generous tasting, not just a tiny piece. We all learned so much about the types of products that we tasted as well as about what makes each item high quality or poor quality. Seeing the difference was amazing. I have already recommended it to many friends and will definitely go again. Thank you!

I can't believe how much fun I had on this walking tour, and especially how much I learned about downtown eateries. The whole group had a blast. Everything we tasted was delicious and we learned so much about all these different food establishments. There was no more perfect way to spend a Sunday morning. Don't hesitate, sign up now for a tour, you'll love it !

A yummy way for New Yorkers to discover Manhattan!
Sun, Feb 17, 08   10:00 AM happyfish Female 40-49 Local Group of Friends
As a native New Yorker, I am sure others like me are creatures of habit and don't stray too far from their local neighborhoods. This was a great way to shake you loose of that and experience unchartered parts of New York filled with fun, culture and a taste of Old New York. Our tour guide Matthew Baker was witty, fiercely informative and made the two hours spent on the Lower East Side absolutely delightful. The vendors and their employees added charm & kindness to the experience. I am anxious to go on another tour sponsored by the same group & will happily refer the Lower East Side tour to others. Now I am certain to explore the neighborhood again & only hope it'll be as much fun as the time spent on the tour! Keep doing what you do!
