What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday!
Sat, May 3  3:00 PM hallidk Female 30-39 Local Group of Friends
We were very pleasantly surprised to find that the tour consisted of myself, my two friends and two tour guides!! I guess word hasn't got out about this tour company yet! We had a great afternoon, walking, listening and learning about cheeses, chocolates & coffees! The tastings in-store were the best bit....alongwith the personal insights of our tourguides and the proprietors of course! I'd recommend this for tourists as something to do that's a little different from the usual city tour and would really recommend this for locals as they get the benefit or returning to the sights and tastes of interest!

I brought my mom on this tour (I have lived in New York for 5 years) for an early mothers day weekend. Both of us had a blast. And even though I've been living here for a few years, it was one of the coolest and most cultural experiences I've had so far. We learned all about the neighborhood, met so many interesting people who are so passionate about their food and work. It was inspirational. Now we're planning on seeing each tour! There are no drawbacks that I can think of, except make sure to bring cash so you can buy treats along the way!

The tour is very informative and lots of fun to do. There are samples at every stop prepared just for us to indulge in. Plenty of time for questions and discussion. Highly recommended.

Cheese, Chocolate, Coffee and FUN!

My husband and I visited the city of Philadelphia for our first time on a long Anniversary weekend. We had the pleasure of taking the Center City Food tour on April 26, 2008. We are veteran Food Tour participants (mostly NYC and had a wonderful, and entertaining, time on this one. We enjoyed the tastings and the information shared on cheese (ok, maybe a bit more than I ever wanted to know about Parmagiana Reggiano), what could ever be wrong with tasting fine chocolates, and even a coffee tasting where neither of us drinks coffee. Our guide, Robert (we think, we are bad with names), was a real pleasure, he knew his stuff, was funny and made everyone feel comfortable - the perfect host! We hope as the tour matures additional interesting stops can be added and more foods can be tasted!! Thank you and Good Luck!!

My group was very pleasantly surprised. We didn't quite know what to expect but the day certainly exceeded any expectations. The guide was informative and so much fun. The shops and the shopkeepers were so hospitable, it was like being in a friends kitchen. We can't wait to book our next tour. It was affordable, fun and informative, what more can you ask for. We would highly recommend it!

Unique informative history & food tour

I lived in NYC 20 years ago and each year when I come back, I tend to visit the same places. The City Foods tour I took along with my 16 year old daughter, showed me how much I've been missing. Conrad our guide, gave an informative history of the Lower East Side and the Bowery. While walking through the area we stopped to eat the most amazing chocolate doughnut, then, enjoyed coffee at a unique coffee shop. (A couple eavesdropped on our tour outside one of these stops and they commented they learned more from Conrads talk then they had in their 2 years living in the neighborhood.) The market we visited had some sinfully rich bon-bons ,exquisite cheeses and Jeffrey put on an amazing show & meal in less than 3 minutes. Of course, we finished our tour with an amazing desert. I can not wait to return to each of the places we visited. What could be a better way to spend a Saturday than eating great food, meeting interesting people, while taking a history lesson and enjoying it. I thought I knew a bit about the Lower East Sde but Conrad was an enlightened guide. His assistants were also very helpful. I would highly reccomend this tour to out of towners and New Yorkers. There was just enough walking and the amount of the tastings (we could have seconds and some of us thirds for items we enjoyed) wasn't too much or too little. I will defintely go on other tours offered with City Foods .

Great route - guide a bit lacklustre
Sat, Apr 19  10:00 AM emmapell Female 20-29 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We went to some great neighbourhood places that we would never have found on our own and really enjoyed the whole thing. Our guide didn't give us as much information about the neighbourhood, its history etc. which was disappointing. The focus was most definitely on the food. The theme we had been promised was an insight into the gentrification of the neighbourhood. In the end, this really didn't feature at all during the tour and I am no more enlightened about the history of the Lower East Side now than before I went on it.

The tour was great. Our tour guide Richard was very personable and knowledgeable. We live in NJ and frequent the city often but did not know of the places we visted on the tour. I would highly recommend the tour to anyone who wants to have a fun day out. I'm looking forward to taking the wine and beer tours.

My Sisiter and I spent the day in Philly doing all the tourist stuff. I have taken NYC tours before and thought it would be fun to do a walking food tour in Philly. We had A GRAT time, and met with great shop owners who were so open and accepting. Our guides were very informational and very upbeat and happy. My sister and myself walked away having lots of laughs and a great experience.

Recently took the Lower East Side Food Tour with my wife and mom. We had a great time interacting with the shop owners. These folks are passionate about their food and it shows in the delicious samples we tried. Had the best dill pickles ever, right from the curing barrels at The Pickle Guys. Our Guide Nicole was wonderful, such a friendly and fun person to be around. She is very knowledgeable on both the food and the neighborhood around it. When you are done with the Midtown tourist sites and want to see the original culinary influences of this great city, give City Food Tours a call. Brian .O

We had our tour on April 6 at 10am. We were so pleased with how it turned out. Despite the chilly tempretures, we had a blast. Our guide, Nicole was wonderful and very knowledgeable. The food was delicious. I would reccommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience the Lower East side more intimately.

The Lower East Side Artisan tour was not only full of information but you come away with some really good places to re-visit at a later time. It incorporated all the meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner along with notes on the history of the area and a little entertainment via Essex Food Market. I would recommend this if you want a little insight into the area, and some good tips on where to find the best coffee/chocolate/dessert and meal ingredients. YUM!!
