Loved the personal touch
Fri, May 1, 09   11:00 AM adsantos Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Nicole gave a very complete overview of the neighborhood and its residents over the generations. She answered our questions and seemed to have good rapport with the business owners. This simple tasting of the goods from quality small shops made it so much easier to make a return trip and purchase with confidence. The foods were of excellent quality and even the day-old doughnuts were really delicious on our road trip home.

Wonderful

Everything was wonderful. It was a very hot day but the guides did their best to keep us cool. A little too many sweets if there can be such a thing but they did box up cupcakes at end to take to go. Guides were very knowledgeable and helpful not just with info on this area but other areas and tours also.

Learn about great NYC dessert spots
Sun, Apr 26, 09   2:00 PM ginasita Female 20-29 Local Group of Friends
This tour takes you through some great well-known and not so well-known dessert spots. There is only one wine tasting spot (could have used more). They took us to two great chocolate places, ice cream, cupcake and a cookie place. Also had a mocha icy coffee drink. At first, I thought the samples were small, but as we went through the tour, I realized that by the end I could barely eat the cupcake-which was so delicious I pushed on :) The tour guide was great, gave us history of Upper West Side and history of chocolate and wine making. There was an assistant tour guide that went to the next location to get the samples so there was very little wait time when we got to a new location. Some of the locations are small and we spent time waiting outside. This was ok since it was a nice day, but I would avoid going in the middle of winter. The actual walk is around a mile in the whole 2.5 hours so its a very easy walk.

nice but not worth the money

not much of a tour, since we basically just moved around two streets. several stops with tasting though. however it didn't feel like we were all that welcome, weren't exactly invited inside the place whose food we tasted, but rather had to stand outside. the food was ok. the pizza place l'asso was great and the viatnameese deli too.

Great food and fun

The food was very good and Laura was very knowledgeable and personable. Nice mix of foods. I especially liked the last stop, Ceci Celi. We lived in Europe for three years and we're always looking for a pastry shop that knows how to make a chocolate eclair the way it's made in Europe!

Enjoyed the Tour

We really liked the LES food tour, led by Jennifer. On our short trip to NYC, it was nice to go to a neighborhood we wouldn't normally get to and learn about the LES history. The food we sampled was all fantastic, although we did not get to try the pickles because it was a Saturday. One thing to note, other reviewers said they did not need lunch after the tour. I would beg to differ! We only had a few bites of food to sample over the 2 hours & were actually starving when the tour was over!!

Fun tour with some great local finds!

Nicole was a great tour guide who was really knowledgeable and gave us great insight on the places we visited. The bakery makes the BEST cookies in the WORLD honestly the best thing we've ever eaten. This was a great way to celebrate my friend's birthday on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Excellent Variety

My husband and I took this tour back in April...I was holding out on writing the review because the guide promised to send us a list of the restaurants/shops we visited and through that email I was hoping to be reminded of her name. In any case, she was great! We started the morning with donuts (cake and yeast) and then moved on to bially, pickles (my favorite), coffee, cupcakes and pizza. The donuts and pizza are vying for the title of husband's favorite. The tour's meeting location was easy to find, the walking easy and the back stories entertaining. I would (and have) recommended this tour to my friends.

3 hours of foodlover's treasure hunt in the city

I went on this tour with three other NYU students and one couple we met at the tour. With a very friendly and cheerful guide, we explored the corners of the smaller streets. From superb cheese in Little Italy to sweet exotic treats in Chinatown, I found new places that I had never been to. I do a lot of research on restaurants and I often come across only the really popular and touristy ones online. On this particular tour, not only did we follow the scenes from the Top Chef, we found new places we were not aware of. It was a great tour on a fine Saturday and I really enjoyed it!

Walk in the steps of a Top Chef

Nicole, our tour guide, did a great job showing us a few different neighborhoods where the cheftestants worked and shopped while on the show. It was nice to have nibbles of food along the way. She kept us on our toes with Top Chef related questions and challenges of our own.

I went on the NoLIta tour last Saturday. Truth be told, it was a rainy, dreary day, and the last thing that I wanted to do was to walk around town. But my girlfriend loves food, plus it was a good way to spend an otherwise lazy day... Our tour guide Laura was friendly and engaging when we arrived. She knew everything about the history of the neighborhood, and most importantly, about the food that we tasted at each stop (we stopped at about 6-7 places). Instead of keeping it rigid and on a tight schedule, she catered the tour around our group's tastes and interests, staying a little longer at the quiet pizza shop, or pointing out the Fresh store for the ladies. As a person who is not particularly crazy about history/sight seeing, Laura nevertheless kept the food-sampling part of the tour well-balanced with interesting bits of information about the area and the background of the shops that we visited. She even explained to us the 6 rules that define a Neopolitan pizza as we sat munching away. My girlfriend has been living in downtown Manhattan for over 3 years and even she was surprised upon discovering all the places that we stopped at along the way. It is nice that the stops are more off-the-beaten-path; I suspect many locals usually walk by them without noticing. Overall a great experience, better than I expected. Although a good experience for tourists, it could be an even better experience for local New Yorkers (who get to return to these places after the tour!).

An item not to be missed!

After hearing from colleagues who had participated in a previous walking culinary tour of Little Italy, my wife and I suggested that the two friends who'd be travelling with us over the Easter weekend consider taking the same tour with us. We were all glad we decided to book the tour! Not only were the places we saw and the foods we sampled things we might have missed on our own, our tour guide (Jennifer) shared her extensive knowledge of the history of -as well as her perspective on- this wonderful part of New York City with a grateful group of about 10 persons. It was money well spent.
