Fantastic Tour

The foods we tasted, restaurant histories , and multiple dining rooms of many restaurants were the highlights of our tour. Just walking through the French Quarter doesn't provide nearly such an in-depth look. We loved our tour!

George, our tour guide, was very knowledge about not only the food but the restaurants and local history. There were even more tastings than I had expected and I tried things I would have never ordered. Surprisingly, I actually liked everything!

We really enjoyed the tour. We learned a lot and had a really nice time. All of the food we tasted was delicious. We only wished we had taken it on our first day in New Orleans so that we would have had time to go back and eat at some of these places. We took it on our last day there. Also, I thought we were going to sample beignets at Cafe Dumond. So we avoided going there during our visit. We were disappointed to find out that there was no sample. It wasn't a huge deal...we just got on line and bought the beignets. It was just surprising as it was listed. Either way...take the tour! It was really a great time and worth the price!!

My husband and I really enjoyed this tour despite the fact that it was pouring rain. Our guide Sally was excellent - she provided us with a lot of historical information. The variety of places we stopped at gave use the opportunity to taste many different foods. We appreciated being able to see aspects of restaurants that we would not otherwise have been able to see. I'd recommend this tour to anyone traveling to New Orleans.

My wife's birthday
Mon, Feb 1, 10   2:00 PM Kunschik Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
My wife had to go to a workshop in New Orleans and I tagged along. The workshops went until 9 pm so there wasn't much time to do things together. The workshops ended Sunday but Monday was my wife's birthday so we stayed and took the cusine tour. It was the highlight of the entire stay. We were greeted by our tour guide, George. He is also a cook and a long time resident of New Orelans. We started at Antoine's and had a taste of their seafood Gumbo. We walked through the kitchen and met the executive chef and saw some of the twenty other chefs at work. we were shown the eight different dining rooms. We took a picture of the drawing that Picasso had drawn when he dined there. There were pictures on the wall of all sorts of celebrities who had eaten there. George told us that Nicolas Cage had been there friday. We went out on the street and walked to several other places unfortunatly, I have a bad memory for names of places and didn't take notes. We had prailines at a candy store. They were making peanut butter cups and we begged George to stop long enough to let us buy some. we had turtle soup at the second oldest restaurant in town. In this one, workers would come in to eat about 11:00am and have a brunch. It was served family style. We went to Romulade and Had a sanwich and some frozen, ice cream like stuff, sorry I can't remember what it was called. It was just beginning to rain. We went to the back of the cafe du Monde and watched them make beignots. Our last stop was a small shop. we walked through the shop and to the back where there was a patio. In the cornor of the patio, a tent was set up. An elderly, sweet lady, was there. she had a pot of red beans and rice ready for us to eat. She then started talking about cooking in New Oreleans. While she was doing this, she was making Rue which she constantly stirred while she was talking. She was very informative in explaning cooking and the "Holy Trinity" of cooking. Her ancestors were slaves and she talked about the uniquness of slavery in Louisiana. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. It should be done on the first day so that you know more about where to eat. Thanks George.

our guide, sally, was well-informed and pleasant to be with. she offered interesting historical information, local customs, and culinary tidbits. even with the rainy weather we had, we'd do it again. and the folks in the restaurants we visited were welcoming and gracious.

This tour is set apart from other walking tours since participants are able to sample dishes from a variety of restaurants in NOLA. Our tour guide, a former chef, was knowledgable, friendly and very familar with the restaurants we visited. I would recommend this tour to casual 'foodies' interested in a quick overview of New Orleans cuisine.

My husband and I took the culinary tour. It was the best money spent on our trip. Sally our guide was fun, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The food was fantastic, the restaurant choices covered every aspect of New Orleans . The history provided at each stop was entertaining and informative. The weather did not cooperate with us but Sally made it so much fun in spite of the rain.!
