Tasty and informative

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. It was tasty and informative and a great way to sample some dishes special to New Orleans. George, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the food and restaurants and how the history and geography of the region influenced the cuisine. I recommend taking the tour at the beginning of your visit so you can sample various foods and decide what you might like to eat more of during your trip.

Very slow starting but got interesting and better

I went on the culinary tour with a group of friends. This was very slow starting at Antoines. For the first half hour I felt that I was receiving a history lesson on Antoines restaurant and not the New Orleans food scene. I don't know if Antoines is the sponsor of this tour and that's why so long on this restaurant. I was very close to walking away from the tour at this point. Once we finally left Antoines the tour progressed at a better pace. I found the tastings interesting and the roux demonstration fun. I would rate the tour a B-. I think to improve it, I would only start with a 5 minute introduction and get the guests either tasting something or walking into a restaurant or kitchen to keep a better interest level. Brief and to the point always works better with tourists who are on vacation and trying to fit alot into one vacation. One other possible suggestion would be to have one tasting also include either a jambalaya or etouffee dish as these may be two of the most well known cajun dishes to most people

I enjoyed the 3-hour culinary walking tour very much! I've already recommended it to colleagues who were also in NOLA for a conference.

The Tour Guide offered a lot of historical information, including local colour, to provide depth to the location and food we sampled. The atmosphere was light and friendly. The food was varied and delicious.

Recommended, but skip out at the end if you can

We got a lot of historical information about the area and development of the foods. We also got several samples that were of nice size. The samples did not add up to a meal and there was plenty of time between each, so you should eat lunch beforehand. Overall, the tour was great and I would recommend it. The very end, which required us to be stuck in one place receiving an infomercial from a store owner who sells packaged food products was not cool.

The tour gives you some history of the French Quarter and some of the restaurants' histories and owners. Getting to sample small amounts of local, traditional fare was perfect for us--we didn't have to order full size meals and we got to taste things. We even got a small cooking lesson at the end! I am a bona fide "foodie" and loved hearing recomendations for places to eat and how to prepare some basics. A great way to spend the afternoon!

fun tour of classic New Orleans Restaurants,Stores

This was an enjoyable tour even though our tour guide was a half hour late. The first restaurant gave us a free drink while we waited even though the tour guide was not their employee. The Big Easy indeed ! We were welcomed on every stop and all the people who worked in the various stores and restaurants always thanked us for coming to New Orleans. The tour guide was very knowledgeable but a little too critical of other restaurant owners with whom he disagreed.

My girlfriend, daughter and I were very fortunate to have Chef George as a tour guide. He was terrific--knowledgeable about food, history and N'awlins. The weather was sunny, warm and beautiful. Although you have small tasting portions, there are so many stops, we were so full by the end. You are given a smattering of almost everything. Seafood gumbo at Antoine's, Shrimp Remoulade at Arnaud's, Pralines at Leah's, delicious turtle soup at I don't remember where(forgot to get a card), Muffalatto and gelato at La Divina, brisket at Tujagues, red beans and rice at Creole Kitchen after a demonstration of roux preparation. We also picked up Crawfish Louise from The Court of Two Sisters Food Stall (a street food fair was going on at the time) as we were walking (additional payment for that-$5). It's amazing the information you learn and become privy to when you partake in a tour lead by a local. Makes all the difference. You could order drinks from the different stops, if you wanted to (at a cost to you). It was from 2 to 5. There is much walking but places to sit at almost every stop. It's a great way to introduce yourself to a town. Is this obvious advertising for the participating venues. Absolutely. Are they offering their wares and hoping you'll "bite" on another sale. For sure. We went back to Leah's the next day to buy pralines and chocolate turtles. Yum! We just loved our tour. I would recommend it to anyone who likes food. Many, many thanks to you and the Chef.

Overpriced for small portions

Our guide was a bit cooky, and the food we sampled was in tiny cups at each restaurant. Some good information and history, but overall too pricey and left hungry.
