Nice tour

A lot of interesting information, and a friendly, fun tour guide. Not a lot of tasting until late in the tour, so don't start the tour hungry. I enjoyed, but wished to see more of the older restaurant's kitchens. Although I loved the tastings at Leah's Praline Shop, this is not really what I was interested in for this tour. I didn't care for the stop at the pastry shop, again, not what I was expecting. The Tajuague's visit was very in-line with what I was expecting (brisket and a sazerac). I also enjoyed the Napolean House stop and the mini muffeletta-yum. A stop at Cafe DuMonde would be nice to add.

Book this in the beginning of your trip to New Orleans so you can visit all the wonderful places during your trip! Our guide Kelly was a blast! We were there during a holiday so some unexpected closures occurred but Kelly made up for it. The history is awesome and Kelly knows her stuff! We made great friends on the tour too! Coming back to visit New Orleans soon all because of Kelly and her fabulous way of showing the best of New Orleans cuisine!

We are two girls that love food. We visited NOLA for a vacation on Memorial Day 2007. This was one of the first tours we took and I recommend you take it in the beginning of your trip. We got a general overview of the French Quarter and were able to pick out some wonderful restaurants for the rest of our trip from the tour! Michael, our tour guide, went above and beyond. In fact the day after, my friend and I stopped by the Culinary School separately to talk with him. He gave me some great recommendations of food to bring back home! He was also very knowledgeable of general history of NOLA as well as culinary history. I've read some comments about the quantity and quality of food. It's a 3.5 hour walking culinary tour! For $40 you get 3.5 hours of entertainment and learning as well as 5 tastings! What do you expect? 5 full courses?? We had eaten a light lunch at noon and by 2, we were famished and we were full after the tour. We tasted, pralines, muffaletta sandwich, roast beef, chocolate croissant, one alcoholic drink, and gumbo. Michael was a pleasure and I recommend this tour for all foodies and those who enjoy history.

The walking food tour went above and beyond our expectations. Our tour guide was most informative about the city and the restaurants. The food was fabulous. I would reccommend taking the tour at the beginning of your trip so you can plan your meals around the sites you visit.

We would definately do it again. The food samples were delicious, the guide was knowledgable, and as always, the Quarter is fabulous.

Kelly was a wonderful guide around the French Quarter...very informative, interesting tour. The food was delicious and we enjoyed the tour very much. We thought the tour would give us ideas for dining during the rest of our stay in New Orleans, and it did just that. We especially enjoyed the tour through Antoine's many dining rooms. The addition of the Louisiana Cooking School to the tour stops was a great choice. We're hoping to schedule a class there on our next visit to New Orleans. The walking tour could have been a little less expensive but otherwise we have no complaints.

Best activity we did in New Orleans!

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour! Our guide, Kelly, was very knowledgable and friendly...as were the proprietors that we visited. Tasting samples were great too! My only regret is that we did the tour the day before we left New Orleans and didn't have time to dine at all of the places where we sampled. We enjoyed the tours inside Antoine's, Tujagues & Brennan's - it was interesting to see the various dining rooms and learn about their history. I was really glad that we were able to visit the New Orleans School of Cooking on our tour (first time it was included in the tour). I will definitely take a class there, next time I visit New Orleans. I give this tour an A+++++++

I liked being able to go inside the restaurants and see the dining rooms. Tasting was an added bonus! Also a good way to orient to the French Quarter.

Go on an empty stomach. Nice insiders view of some wonderful restaurants when they're empty and you can wander and see the history / decor. Good overview of origins of local cuisine. Would like to see and hear a little more contemporary history of NOLA cuisine. Overall good fun.

Interesting historical overview

Historical and cultural info was interesting along with the tour of the restaurant dining rooms. The various tastings were also good. It was unfortunate though that the Herman Grimma house was closed on the Saturday we visited (as it is on all Saturdays). Since this 19th century home / kitchen / and cooking methods was advertised as one of the main stops / activities, it was very disappointing that we did not get to go there. Since it is closed every Saturday, it seems that some adjustment should be made for this omission -- either a cut in the cost of the tour or a visit to some other similar location.

MY HUSBAND AND I TOOK THE CULINARYHISTORY AND TASTING TOUR WHILE VISITING NO A FEW WEEKS AGO. WE HAVE SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THIS IN BOSTON (NORTH END) AND WE WERE INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT THE DIFFERENT FOODS AND CULTURE OF NO. VERY INFORMATIVE; HAD A CHANCE TO VISIT RESTAURANTS WE MIGHT OTHERWISE NOT HAVE HAD THE TIME TO SEE AND TO TASTE SOME OF THE FLAVORS OF NO. I.E.. GUMBO, MUFFALATAS, PECAN TARTS. GUIDE WAS GREAT. CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS TOUR ENOUGH!

French Quarter Culinary History Tour

Our Culinary Tour of the French Quarter was well worth the cost and the time. We visited some classic restaurants and heard their fascinating histories. The tour lasted about 2-1/2 hours and was genuinely interesting. This is something anyone with an interest in food lore, restaurants, and all things culinary will enjoy.
