A brief glimpse of all that is New Orleans
Fri, Apr 6, 07   2:00 PM PatSmith Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Albert took us on a tour of New Orleans past and present. His knowledge of all things made it much more that a food tour. We totally enjoyed the look back at New Orleans history and society, the architecture, the people, and what is happening now. As everyone knows, Katrina has had a huge negative affect on New Orleans and his accounting of what is going on to get the city and area back to some kind of normal was very powerful. Albert is a jewel and the samples of food were outstanding also! There wasn't anything we didn't like about the whole afternoon!

A great taste of New Orleans.

Our tour leader, Kelly, was extremely personable and knowledgeable. It is clear that she loves the city of New Orleans (especially the cuisine) and that was clearly reflected in her presentation. All of the food was excellent. There was a great mix of talking, walking, eating, and drinking. I would recommend this to vistors and locals alike. I ended up taking the friend I am staying with to one of the restaurants. She had never heard of it, and has lived here 2 years. She loved it! Excellent tour that I'd highly recommend.

My 15 year old daughter and I took this tour on our first day in New Orleans. It was a great opportunity for her to sample some delightful dishes as well as learn a bit about the regional history and cuisine. We found the tour guide very knowledgeable and entertaining - it didn't feel like a H.S. History class. We discovered some new restaurants and came back to them during our stay for the "full" meals. Highly recommended whether this is your first trip or your fifth!

The French Quarter Culinary History and Tasting Tour defintely lives up to its name. Not only do participants get a taste of the foods of New Orleans, but they get a great history lesson about how these foods came about through the cultural mix of the people who settled the area. Kelly, the tour guide (and its proprietor) is very knowledgeable about food, New Orleans and its people. She took the group behind the scenes of some wonderful restaurants. The tastings were more than sufficient. Those who go on this tour must remember that it is a "tasting" tour, not a full-meal tour. However, by the time we had experienced all the tastings, everyone in the group felt they had had a full meal. I recommend taking this tour as soon as posssible upon arrival in New Orleans because you will want to go back to the restaurants visited.

My husband and I thought we would see the kitchens at all the places we stopped. We saw one kitchen. Our tour group was three people. We did see private rooms in restaurants that only locals would probably see. Just not a WOW thing for the price and three hours of walking.

This is an activity that I will pursue in every city that I travel to. It is the most informative, activity I think I could experience. The guide was excellent in her knowledge of the area, and knew all the proprietors like family, therefore we all felt very welcomed. The people I met on the tour were professionals, and we made quick friends, walking back to the hotel together. I hate to give you ideas, but now that I have experienced this tour of New Orleans and know how great it was, I would have paid twice the amount.

Interesting review of New Orleans Cuisine

I attended the tasting tour and was pleased with the variety of items sampled. The amount was not enough for a meal, and considering the cost, larger samples of some items could have been provided. I did return with others to visit 3 of the restaurants toured, later in the week. It was a good introduction to creole and cajun foods, but somewhat expensive compared to other culinary activities available in the city. (I also attended the New Orleans Cooking School, it was cheaper, longer, and served much larger portions.)

Do not go on this tour on a busy Saturday!
Sat, Mar 17, 07   2:00 PM JudyAdams Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Our tour guide was very knowedgeable and pleasant. The food was good but minimal considering the price we paid for the tour. Going on a busy Saturday was not a good idea. I understand that the restaurants were busy, but since they had agreed to participate in this tour, I believe they should have been more accommodating. We ate our food standing outside and were not even offered a glass of water! Tour definitely has potential, but needs tweaking!

Second best part of our trip
French Quarter Culinary History Tour

The best part of New Orleans is eating at the restaraunts, of course. This was a fantastic tour! We visited many of the famous restaraunts and learned quite a bit about New Orleans history in general. This is a great way to scout out some of the best places to eat without dropping $100+ to find out that the menu is not exactly what you wanted. We ended up having several tasting samples, even though it was not part of the original plan. Tour did run a bit longer than advertised. Ours was about 3 hrs, but we considered that a bonus.

Excellent service in tough time

Due to weather (Blizzard in March) we were unable to get to New Orleans. Inspite of the fact that the tour is advertised as nonrefundable. The owner called us back, completely understood our situation, gave us a refund and treated us very well. If we ever do get to New Orleans we will do this tour. Service and being treated as being important was a treat!

Very good culinary tour of New Orleans
Fri, Mar 16, 07   2:00 PM brendaalan Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Our guide was very knowledgeable about culinary aspects as well as historical information. Samples from restaurants were very good. The tour is walking intensive and as I have lower back problems some periods of rest, (sitting, about five minutes every 30-40 minutes) would have been nice. Other than that problem, it was a very good tour.

Where's the food....not on this tour.
Sat, Mar 10, 07   2:00 PM gregfavors Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
The primary reason we booked this tour was to get a taste of the food offered at those places everybody hears about. Antoine's, Brennan's, Arnaud's, and Tujac's, just to name a few, were on the tour. Some other places you have never heard of get lumped in too. Guess who serves the food. Not Brennen's or Antoine's, but some of the lesser known establishments. If you can believe it, we were served a CHICKEN QUESADILLA WEDGE at one place. I do not consider that a "Taste of New Orleans". Other offerings were a Muffalatta Sandwich (about the size of a 50 cent coin) and a serving of roast beef with a spicy sauce on the side. Those three items were the entire menu of the TASTING PORTION of the tour. The historical portion of the tour could not have been better. Our guy was a native of New Orleans and knew his stuff. Everyone on the tour was fascinated with a behind the scenes look at these famous eateries and the stories that go with them. If we were doing everything over, we would book the walking tour only (it is an offered option) and spend the money we save on the Lucky Dog vendor on the corner. You know what to expect from the Lucky Dog guy......a great hot dog. You have no idea what to expect on this tour when the food is served. So, my advise is to skip the food part and take the walk part. Adieu.
