Good tour
French Quarter Culinary History Tour

We enjoyed the tour and felt the history given was very interesting. It would have been even better if we had been able to see some of the kitchens and perhaps a brief cooking demonstration and/or taste test of some of the well know items at each establishment ie; Bananas Foster at Brennans. We would definitely book a tour with your organization again.

We learned so much! It was fantastic.

Although this particular tour didn’t involve any tasting (the tasting tour is on hold until the restaurants get back to normal hours), it was still a great experience. We met our guide Kelly outside Antoine’s. We got to see the kitchens and dining rooms of several of the oldest restaurants in the country; Antoine’s, Arnaud’s, Brennan’s, Tujagues. We also got information on other establishments like K-Paul’s, Napoleon House, and Café du Monde. Kelly also gave us a history of how the different inhabitants of New Orleans influenced the food being served, resulting in the Cajun and Creole blend it is today. It was a very informative two hours and would be great for anyone interested in fine dining, cooking, or just taking a sneak peak at the private dining rooms where celebs might eat when in town. Kelly was awesome. She's into history of all kinds and knew so much about the city she loves. It felt like having a friend from the city showing us around. Thanks so much!

Do this on your first day in New Orleans
French Quarter Culinary History Tour

This tour was extremely enjoyable. Although I already knew that New Orleans was a food-oriented city, it was interesting to learn more about the traditions and cuisine, and how restaurants have recovered since Katrina. We got to tour many fancy restaurants that we wouldn't have had time (or money) to go to on our own. One thing they don't mention is that you get to look at a reproduction kitchen from the 1800's and that was unique. Our guide, Albert, was also able to tell us about architecture and the history of the French Quarter, so that was an added bonus. I would recommend doing this tour on your first day, and it will help you appreciate New Orleans--and the food--so much more during the rest of your trip.

A top New Orleans walking tour!!!

After a dozen visits to New Orleans, I thought that I had taken every possible walking tour...until I came across this culinary history tour. I wasn't sure what to expect, but if I had had expectations they would have been exceeded. Kelly, our guide and the originator of the tour, is a wealth of historical information, anecdote, and cooking tips. She gave us an inside look at some of NO's most famous restaurants (Antoine's, Arnaud's, Tujaques) and told fascinating stories along the way. As a historian, she knows how to do research and it shows! I can't recommend this tour--and Kelly--highly enough and look forward to taking her tasting tour when it becomes available again.

Kelly, our guide, was professional, friendly, and knowledgable. We really enjoyed visiting the banquet rooms in the old restaurants, including the "crew" rooms with the gowns and Mardi Gras memorabilia. We would have liked to meet more chefs or seen demonstrations - perhaps those aspects are part of another tour. I recommend it highly.

Best Tour in New Orleans
French Quarter Culinary History Tour

This was the best tour I have ever taken in New Orleans. My guide was a sweet lady who was very educated and even though I was the only one on the tour, the tour proceeded under some not so pleasant weather conditions. The tour was extremely informative and fun, and my guide was extremely knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting. I would recommend this tour to anyone of any age and look forward to taking it again when I come back around Christmas.

We took this tour on a Tuesday in July because we are Food Network junkies and we really wanted to learn about local restaurants and cuisine. Kelly was very knowledgeable about the history and cuisine, and we learned a lot. However, due to problems lingering from Katrina, most of the restaurants on the tour are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. They cannot get enough staff or business to open those days. We were allowed in to some of them, but the kitchens were silent. If you can, plan your trip between Thursday and Sunday. Then you can see the restaurants in action and even dine at them afterward.

I highly recommend this tour. Our guide, a New Orleans architect, was friendly and knew a great deal about the restaurants and the city. The staff at the restaurants we visited were very welcoming. Can't wait for the tasting tours to come back!

Culinary History Tour on Our 1st Anniversary
French Quarter Culinary History Tour

Recently my wife and I took the French Quarter Culinary History Tour during a trip to New Orleans to celebrate our 1st anniversary. We were both fascinated with the history of the different resturants and the families that run them. The tour began at Antione's. We were so impressed that after being there for only five minutes I temporarliy left the tour and made dinner reservations. That night we enjoyed one of the finest meals that we have ever eaten. It is an experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives. I recommend the tour to anyone interested in New Orleans history or fine dining.

If you love to cook/eat out, this tour is for you. My husband was not enthused that this tour didn't offer food (restaurant staffing post-Katrina doesn't allow for this at this point), but soon got into it. We were the only ones on the tour, so we lucked out with a private tour of the restaurants. The guide was knowlegeable and a very warm person. It was nice to go into the restaurants, not only to get a view of the rooms, but to get a nice air-conditioned break from the heat outside. Don't plan on doing a lot of walking the day you book this tour, or you'll be too beat. We also picked where we would go for lunch and dinner the next day based on this tour!!! Thanks Kelly!

This was my 5th trip to New Orleans and I have taken all kinds of tours. This was the very best. You got history of the area with the focus on the food. We had Kelly as our tour guide and she is very professional and knowledgable. I would take this tour again and it should be the first thing you do if you are in New Orleans for the first time.

Enjoyed the tour very much and thought gentleman was good guide but very soft-spoken for a guide. Our group was only eight and we had a difficult time hearing him. I don't think a group of more than 10 could get close enough to hear much.

We thought we knew a lot about the New Orleans restaurants, but our guide provided us with succulent tidbits that we'll remember forever. Among them, the origin of "Dixie." You'll just have to take the tour to find out. . . We're looking forward to next time, when the restaurants will be in position to accommodate the next facet of the tour, with tastings.

I thought I knew a lot about the resturants that we visited, but I learned so much more. I had dined at most of them but the tour made me appreciate them even more. Our tour guide was knowledgable and always willing to answer any question. Hope that the tasting tour will be up and running soon. I would love to return to New Orleans to go on that tour.
