Great food and history tour.

This was a fun and interesting tour which gave us insight into how all the food was influenced by other countries. We got to start out at the oldest restaurant and see a little behind the scenes and taste the food. It was great. We then went onto a praline/candy store and then more restaurants where we were able to try different foods native to New Orleans. It was a fun and delicious time with a great and knowledgeable tour guide.

The best tour i've ever been on in NOLA!!! Lots of history on the city and on key restaraunts in the French Quarter from a local chef with a ton of experience and knowledge. Great food tastings along the way and plenty of food to serve as a late lunch. Detailed knowldege of the dishes we were served as well as the local cusiine plus most places we stoped offered discounts if we wanted to come back during our trip for a meal or for items from their store. All in all a wonderful value. Screw the horse ride, take this and you will not be let down. Great for a foodie!

Huge disappointment

The tour guide appeared scruffy and unkempt, which I found very unappealing for a food tour. Our meeting location -- Antoine's -- was a very nice restaurant, and the opening presentation and first food samples were nice, but things quickly went downhill. The time spent in Antoine's viewing rooms and collectibles I found far too lengthy to keep my interest, and not culinary-related. From there, we went to one or two more restaurants for walk-throughs, more city history and no food samples! After being told the significance of a fire hydrant on the street -- which I found to be totally irrelevant -- I lost hope for the tour. It picked up a bit at the last three stops because we did get samples. I found the tour guide to be uninteresting and the food samples only okay, at best. I would not advise anyone to spend $43 for this tour. Instead, take the money and enjoy a meal at a nice restaurant .

Guide did not provide enough nexus between historical and culinary facts--fortunately, other guests on the tour were able to fill in. Tasting portion was exceptional.

Originally read about this culinary tour in Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Sounded great. Slightly disappointed by assortment of food exposed to. Tour description said we would learn differences between cajun and creole and their influence on New Orleans cuisine. That wasn't really addressed. Also said tour duration would be three hours but in actuality was over in less than 2-1/2 hours. Would have liked to visited more places and heard more about local cuisine. Expected more value for the price.

Chef George was knowledgeble, funny, and a great host. The tour was much more that we expected. The tasting were pure NOLA. The sites well -planned out. The history fascinating. Would recommend this to anyone that visits NOLA. We plan on another tour with the same company when we return to Louisiana.

The guide was very knowlegable about the history of the resturants and about the history of the culture, food and historical buildings. It was raining hard at the beginning through half way through the tour, but the guide was very professional and handled the diifficult situation very well. The tour was very worthwhile & worth the price.

Almost as good as the New york tours

The New Orleans food tour was very good. The guide was very knowledgable about the history and food culture of the area and its many influences. I appreciated that she had us sit or go inside whenever possible because it was very hot outside and the sun was very bright. There was plenty of food, although I have had a wider variety on similarly priced food tours in New York city. Overall I do highly recommend the tour!

Not only was the food delicious, the history was fascinating. Our tour guide, Renee, clearly knows her stuff and is enthusiastic about teaching it to her tour groups. I would recommend this tour to anyone who travels to New Orleans. My husband and I had two 16 year old boys with us and they enjoyed it as much as we did.

FANTASTIC LEARNING Experience!! The Essence of NO
Mon, Aug 3  2:00 PM TourDesigns Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
Guide was laid-back, casual - but local - with local roots and local lore abounding! His stories made the city and the food "come to life" and told the history of New Orleans in a very memorable and understandable way! Exactly what a good guide should do! The visits were interesting - fun - and we were warmly welcomed - not just "hustled through". Having other local cooks, chefs, entreprenuers so eagerly talk about their food, their business, their culture and their lives is what makes this tour so special. Great for all ages! just be prepared for walking! After this tour, one is ready to really try the restaurants and neighborhoods of New Orleans! It should be "required" of all meeting planners/ convention planners BEFORE they make arrangements in the city! If you want to sell New Orleans - sell the history of the cuisine - and the cuisine!

We very much enjoyed our Culinary History and Tasting Tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable. All the food on the tour was delicious. Although the tour is almost 3 hours, it goes very fast. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a "taste" of New Orleans food and the French Quarter area.

One of the best tours we have taken. We have lived in New Orleans for 35 years & booked this tour with friends from Scottsdale Arizona, who have visited New Orleans many times. Sally, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable on both the history of New Orleans & the restaurants we visited. We were a little disapointed that Brennan's did not provide a sample of anything, a taste of bananas foster would have fit well, & the brisket at Tujague's was cut with the grain & not cross grain ( a little stringy) Nothing that ruined the experience, but noticeable. Galatorie's & Arnaud's would be a nice addition to this tour also, in the same vicinity & also with a wonderful history.
