Interesting but overpriced.

I am not sure if this was a culinary tour, a history tour, or simply a stroll through the French Quarter. Although our tour guide seemed knowledgeable, it was difficult most of the time to hear what he said. The major restaurants, Antiones and Brennans offered no more to the people on the tour as to what anyone walking in off the street would have received. Not even a sample in those places. The sample in the praline shop was available to anyone who walked in as were the one praline free if you bought twelve coupon. Rum cake at a bar in Pirates Alley was probably the best sample but a small bit of sandwich and Italian Ice Cream and a small new restaurant was just a tease. A small red beans and rice sample was served standing up in the back of a souvenier shop and fianally, a small portion of brisket was served a Tujaques will standing up in the smoke filled bar. You rarely got a napkin and were lucky to get a outside table at the Pirates Alley stops. Read a book about creole cooking and then stroll through the quarter, stop in, and ask questions and you would be just as well off and still have money left to really eat in one of the restaurants.

Very informative. There's such history to the places themselves and this frankly was far more interesting. I was impressed with the quality of the food, don't get me wrong, but really I think it's really a bonus on what is really an interesting walking tour of the place.

Renee did a wonderful job. The tour was thorough without being too overwhelming and long without being too long. Perfect!

Guide was less than stellar

Apparently the long time guide who has received so much praise retired suddenly and our tour was led by an assistant. He was not very knowledgable. Most of what he imparted was repeated by a local creole cook we visited. And he creeped out our 25 year old daughter. Also, don't come expecting to eat some of the finer cuisine. We walked through fine restaurants, but that's not where we did the tasting! The local creole cook was good though and I did learn new techniques. Too bad we missed the original tour guide.

Fascinating exposure to New Orleans culture & food

Good tour, although slightly overpriced in relation to the lack of any significant food tastings. I was under the impression from the promotion that we really would experience more tastings. In two of the restaurants, Antoine's and Brennans, there were no treats. Tour price should range from $25 - $35.

The tour was interesting and provided information about both historical and new eating establishments. The guide was knowledgeable, but a bit soft spoken and hard to follow. The cooking demonstration was great!

My boyfriend and I enjoyed this tour very much. George, our host was great, full of insightful infomation. The weather was perfect for this tour so we really enjoyed walking all over the French Quarter. I will be telling all of our friends about it! Great times!

The tour was very interesting and informative because the guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and fun. It was a good combination of well-known up-scale restaurants and smaller, lesser known places, which gave me an idea of the rich culinary tradition of New Orleans. The food samples provided a taste of local specialties as well as some new and different things. I would recommend this tour highly.

Didn't know full extent of what to expect on tour beforehand but was very pleased. Not only were the sampled foods delicious, but the history and knowledge that the tour guide imparted was informative and entertaining without being teachy. We went to places that we never would have gone on our own and were grateful for the experience! So recommend this tour to all! Easy walk for geriatrics and it was one of the high points in NOLA for our 30 something kids.

Not a fan

Our group didn't really enjoy this tour. I thought we would be tasting at each location. We went 1 1/2 hours going into resturants (that seemed put out that we were there) with out tasting or drinking. The end of the tour was much better and more what I expected. Shorten up the tour and it make it about food.

Enjoyed it thoroughly! Of course, it helped that the weather was mild and no rain. I have one serious note: Luckily, on my day of the tour, there was a big group. One person in the group told the group that she originally signed up for the tour a week ago. It turned out that it was rainy and she was the only one that showed up. Well, it states on the Internet site that the tour goes on regardless of weather and she was never contacted if the tour was cancelled due to the rain or low membership. She waited and waited and no tour guide showed up. I just wanted to bring this point up so that you people don't show up and never notified that the tour was cancelled at the last moment!! Believe me, I would have been totally pissed if I were in this woman's shoes. She was fortunate enough to re-book the tour because she was spending several weeks visiting a friend in New Orleans.
