I think this was a unique experience - I do think this could be a great experience with some modifications. The guide was informative but a bit monotonous and not extremely dynamic which made it hard to stay focused. I think the pace should be picked up a little - 3 hours was way to long for this tour and the area that was covered. The food samples were good but it should definately be communicated that this tour is not intended to replace a meal. Water should be offered at each stop. I would also suggest that particpants receive a recipe or two of some of the food samples or at least a general recipe for local foods.

A peek inside the restaurant world of New Orleans

We were fortunate to get a private tour (booked on a slow day), so it was just my husband, myself and the tour guide (Chef George). This was perfect for us, I was able to ask as many questions as I wanted and not feel like I was hijacking the tour. George was very knowledgeable about the food scene in and around New Orleans and had some excellent tidbits to pass along. We especially liked going into the kitchen and getting a chance to talk to one of the chefs in Antoine's. We also liked the opportunity to move 'behind the scenes' into places most people never see. I had no idea the extent of some of these restaurants! Quite the eye-opener. We are truly glad we went, and think it a lucky accident we got the private tour, I would recommend this to anyone, especially if it is their first trip to New Orleans. It would give them an excellent head start. Two thumbs up!

We took the tour on the day we arrived in NOLA. Chef George, our tour guide, provided lots of tips and insight on history, food and culture of the French Quarter. It helped us determine where we wanted to eat during the rest of the trip. The lesson on how to make a roux was a very nice addition. Be sure to wear comfy shoes and clothing.

My husband and I live about an hour from New Orleans and spent the weekend in the city playing tourist. We did the culinary tour, and it was wonderful!! We spent 3 hours with our group and guide, walking around in the French Quarter touring and sampling food at some of the oldest and most famous restaurants in New Orleans. Antoine's gumbo and Tujaques's brisket were fabulous. There was more food than we expected there to be. We saw kitchens, private dining areas, and even had 1 cooking demonstration. I was tentative at first because there were 18 people in our group, but the tour flowed smoothly and was really fun. There were plenty of drink and bathroom breaks, and we quickly got passed the surprise of bringing the same beverage in and out of other restaurants. This was by far my favorite tour, and was the highlight of our trip. Our guide was really informative and pleasant. May I suggest the Pimm's mixed drink at Antoine's... yum.

Insights into New Orleans

We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon we spent on the food tour in New Orleans. We were wanting to try the local cuisine and since we were only spending 2 days in New Orleans, this gave us the opportunity to view the finest restaurants, taste the local specialties and enjoy a bit of the history all mixed together. Our tour guide,Renee, did a wonderful job of making everyone feel confortable and was very enthusiastic in her presentation. We certainly didn't walk away hungry...nor did we eat supper that evening. Thanks. Great tour!

Food what there was, gave a good cross section of New Orleans cooking. Not sure about the history part of the tour, seemed like we were trying to cram for a final exam. The stop at Brennans was just to see their court yard, no tasting, too bad
