not a bad tour but not as good as the NY food tour
Mon, Apr 6  9:30 AM AmyBPChef Female 40-49 Local Family With Children
Our tour guide was a little dry and our 17 year old found the tour to be a little boring, especially when compared to one we did in Greenwich Village. We are also from a southern state, so most of the foods were not "new" to us. I think the tour would be more interesting to someone not familiar with BBQ and grits and sweet tea. Also, compared to the NY tour there were fewer stops and fewer tastings, which made the Charleston tour less interesting. My suggestion would be to add a few more stops, even if they weren't "tasting" stops, and spend less time at each one to make the overall tour more exciting. The tour is basically focused on "low-country" cooking, would have enjoyed more of a "Taste of Charleston" even if it included other styles/ethnicities of food. Overall we had a nice time, but I would definitely not do it again.

Savor the Flavors Tours of Downtown Charleston
Mon, Mar 16  9:30 AM lisagreenwoo Female 40-49 Local Family Without Children
We enjoyed the tour, learned a lot and would recommend it to our friends and family. We walked at a comfortable pace, in a small group and sampled lots of tasty, Low Country treats, learning all about the history of food, architecture and people in the Charleston and surrounding area. I told our tour guide Claire, that I would be back with my family to take the tour again. When I asked what other establishments were included on other "Savors the Flavors Tours", she informed me that there was only one "Savor the Flavors Tour" and that there were no changes. This tour was purchased from previous owners, so the touring company visits the same places because that was the way it was originally set up. She recommended that I choose the Friday am "Behind the Scenes" tour for something different. May I recommend to the touring company that they set up a variety of "Savor the Flavors Tours" so that visitors to Charleston can enjoy this tour again and again in different establishments each time, like the carriage companies do, with different routes for each trip.

A MUST Do in Charleston!!

As a local, I'm always searching for different things to do with visiting friends. This tour was EXCELLENT and well worth the time and money. The variety of food was great and the history of Lowcountry cuisine was well presented. My friends loved sampling stone ground grits for the first time (thank you Dixie Cafe on State Street). Shout out to Lucas Chocolates as well for the great samples. Pralines at Market Street Sweets were delectable. Bar-B-Que, collards, and some kind of WONDERFUL bisquits at Jim-n-Nicks were a treat. Per our wonderful tour guide's (Nancy) recommendation, we're having lunch at Tristan tomorrow and dinner tonight at Cypress. Will try to squeeze in Magnolias before friends leave this week. No wonder Charleston has become such a culinary destination, all this wonderful food!! Anxious to take more friends on this tour in the future.

A delightful taste of the Lowcountry

I learned a lot about the history of the food in the lowcountry. The stops on the tour were very fun and interesting. I would not have known about any of these places (Kennedy's, Teavanna, Ted's Butcher) if I had not gone on this tour. Not only were the places fun and interesting, it was really great meeting the owners and their attitudes about their businesses! This was a great tour and I would highly recommend it!

What a wonderful way to savor the flavors of Charleston! Loved the food we sampled and quaint shops we were able to see. Enjoyed having time in each shop to make purchases to bring home. Our guide was knowledgeable about the city which made the tour fun and interesting. I highly recommend this tour!

Good Tour Read Reviews to understand to expect!

Been on several food tours around the country and this one you can tell is new and still working out some of the kinks. The grits stop and bbq at the end was the best of the tour. Tour guides should remind participants this is not a shopping tour and all the places you can walk back later to shop and not slow up the tour. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Stops should provide something OTHER than you could have gotten on our own without a guide. Certainly a fun time and enjoyable but also understand this is not a MEAL but we did not need lunch afterwards.

Need to end with better food, a meal?
Fri, Nov 6  2:00 PM JNRapach Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I thought that it left no time to buy anything. I thought that it would end better if there was an actual meal included. Tasting was somewhat commercial. Good job by Guide ( from Mass.).

I would have loved to sample more food for the amount of money charged. But the tour guide was good and the stores were very welcoming.

All the food presented was great. It really gave you a feel for charleston. Our tour guide Cathy was very knowledgeable and truly loves Charleston. I'm really into grits now and am glad to have had the time to sample your cuisine.
