This is the worst tour I've ever had in Charleston
|

| We went to only 2 restaurants the rest were shops or stores that had nothing to do with Charleston. One was even a franchise, one was a Belgium chocolate store. We have been on at least a 1/2 dozen tours in Charleston and this was the worst. The tour guide said that there are crocodiles in Charleston which is incorrect there are only alligators. Do not go on this tour. | ||||||

| Been on several food tours around the country and this one you can tell is new and still working out some of the kinks. The grits stop and bbq at the end was the best of the tour. Tour guides should remind participants this is not a shopping tour and all the places you can walk back later to shop and not slow up the tour. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Stops should provide something OTHER than you could have gotten on our own without a guide. Certainly a fun time and enjoyable but also understand this is not a MEAL but we did not need lunch afterwards. | ||||||

| I thought that it left no time to buy anything. I thought that it would end better if there was an actual meal included. Tasting was somewhat commercial. Good job by Guide ( from Mass.). | ||||||

| The tour was interesting and provided a narrow view of Tastes of the Low Country. The grits at the Dixie Supply and Cafe were very good. My wife and I stopped there several times during our visit. They made a grits eater out of my wife. The stop at The Cooks store was a little lacking. It was more like a commercial than a Taste of the Low Country. The Benne wafers did not seem to be a good representation of the Low Country tastes. The Belgium Chocolate stop was definitely not representative of the Low Country. The Main Street Sweet Shop presented a good use of the regionally grown pecans, the pralines were delicious. We had to get some to take home with us. The final stop at the restaurant was very nice. It gave the tour group a wonderful taste of a low country meal. I would have liked to see something like Shrimp and Grits or a Gumbo in the mix of flavors on the tour. Something that showcased the Gullah style of cooking. | ||||||

| The tour guide was informative, knowledgeable with a good sense of humor. I certainly recommend the tour for others. The tour is in the heart of the market street area, which is ideal. We loved the chocolate, pralines, stone grits, etc. Ken | ||||||

| we took this tour thinking that the tour would enlighten us about southern cooking. It started out on the right track with a visit to a local southern cookery where we had a dixie cup of grits and a long discussion about the native Indians and their influence on cooking. After that this tour turned into a gross commercialization and blatant effort at getting the group into stores to BUY!! Imagine a short walk through a praline store only time to buy but no talk about this so uthern delicacy A Belgian chocolate store ,a international spice and tea store. What do they have in common with Southern cooking? Not again. What a waste of money ans 2 and a half hours. | ||||||

| I took the savor the flavors tour with my parents who were visiting me. I am currently in the Navy and stationed at NWS charleston. I thought this tour would be an excellent way to learn more about the local culture and history of the Charleston area. We arrived on Saturday at the Hunley replica and met our guide, Susan, who was waiting there for us. She gave us a brief synopsis of the tour to come and then we departed. We wandered around downtown seeing some of the historical sites that shaped Charleston and also sampling foods indiginous to the area. We stopped at the local farmers market and tried many local specialties such as mint sweet tea, fresh locally grown fruits, stone ground grits, different jams and jellies, and even freshly made candies. Susan was an excellent tour guide who was informative and flexible. She was happy to answer questions and alter plans if our group found interest in something different. Ifound the tour an exellent representation of what Charlestonians are all about. Susan also recommended the best local restaraunts which we ate at later and truned out to have some of the best food we had ever eaten. I highly recommend this tour as both someone who loves food and who has worked in and out of Culinary Arts since I was only fourteen years old. To put it simply, TAKE THIS TOUR!!! | ||||||

Tasting Tour - Saturday - Neutral Review

| I think the concept of the culinary tours is excellent, but this activity did not meet our expectations. Right or wrong, we had anticipated that the tour would focus on tasting at various Charleston restaurants, but the Saturday tour focused mainly on the farmers' market and sundry food shops. At the farmers' market, local vendors sell their various wares - organic foods, fresh vegetables, Southern cuisine, etc, etc. Much of the tour consisted of sampling the vendors' foods and learning about the food preparation. While delightful and informational, the tour provided nothing unique from most large cities' farmers' markets, and the experience was no different from what any other bypasser at the market could get for free. After touring the market, we walked past several restaurants (which we'd loved to have entered) and visited several food shops. Again, the food samples were good and information interesting, but the vendors seemed most intent on selling to the customers participating in the tour. My favorite thing was the bag we received at the beginning of the tour - which contained cold bottled water (with coozies), Charleston maps, and a few recipes. | ||||||

| Fran, our tour guide was great. Very knowledgable and fun. I don't know what we would have done without the wonderful farmers market going on. It would have been fun to see and taste from a few local restaurants, but my wife and I had a wonderful time. | ||||||

| As a local, I'm always searching for different things to do with visiting friends. This tour was EXCELLENT and well worth the time and money. The variety of food was great and the history of Lowcountry cuisine was well presented. My friends loved sampling stone ground grits for the first time (thank you Dixie Cafe on State Street). Shout out to Lucas Chocolates as well for the great samples. Pralines at Market Street Sweets were delectable. Bar-B-Que, collards, and some kind of WONDERFUL bisquits at Jim-n-Nicks were a treat. Per our wonderful tour guide's (Nancy) recommendation, we're having lunch at Tristan tomorrow and dinner tonight at Cypress. Will try to squeeze in Magnolias before friends leave this week. No wonder Charleston has become such a culinary destination, all this wonderful food!! Anxious to take more friends on this tour in the future. | ||||||

| While on our honeymoon in Charleston, My wife and I decided to check out some local area tours. This culinary tour was one of our favorites. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The history behind each location was fascinating and the tasting selections were well diversified...and yummy :) We discovered some lesser known culinary treasures that we will be sure to visit again on our next trip to Charleston. Highly recommended. | ||||||

| Was an ok tour, fun. Information was scanty most of the tasting was at the farmers market on Saturday that was available to the public at large. Leader did by some fruit and other foods that were good not necessarily low country cuisine. Our guide was interesting and had a lot of historical information. Tho since scampi has been around since the turn of the century, I doubt we actually met the wife of the creator. LOL | ||||||
