Was an ok tour, fun. Information was scanty most of the tasting was at the farmers market on Saturday that was available to the public at large. Leader did by some fruit and other foods that were good not necessarily low country cuisine. Our guide was interesting and had a lot of historical information. Tho since scampi has been around since the turn of the century, I doubt we actually met the wife of the creator. LOL

We really enjoyed our guide...very friendly and informative. Our favorite stops, I think, were the Dixie Supply and the spice shop We went back to both later and might not have found them otherwise. The other stops were great also. I would certainly recommend this to friends. The only suggestion I would make would be to add one more stop. Perhaps another restaurant.

We really enjoyed the tour. The guide was well informed and the stop at the wine and cheese shop was particularly enjoyable.

This was so much fun. Not only did the leader show us amazing places to eat - but we also learned so much history - thru food! It was so much fun and we went back to chocolate store, candy store and cooking store and bought lots! Thanks so much for so much fun!!

I really enjoyed this tour. The guide was very informative and every stop we went to had very enthousiastic workers/owners ready to show us their food and food products.

not culinary but commercial

we took this tour thinking that the tour would enlighten us about southern cooking. It started out on the right track with a visit to a local southern cookery where we had a dixie cup of grits and a long discussion about the native Indians and their influence on cooking. After that this tour turned into a gross commercialization and blatant effort at getting the group into stores to BUY!! Imagine a short walk through a praline store only time to buy but no talk about this so uthern delicacy A Belgian chocolate store ,a international spice and tea store. What do they have in common with Southern cooking? Not again. What a waste of money ans 2 and a half hours.

My girlfriend and I are very much into fine cuisine and cooking, and we learned a lot about the flavors of South Carolina through this tour. We also managed to pick up some ingredients that we will use in our cooking. The chocolate shop stop was also very enjoyable as we both have a hard time finding real chocolate in the US. We had a lot of fun and would recommend this tour to other people who are interested in local flavors and delights.

Very Informative and Fun

This tour provided an overview of the culinary history and culture of the lowcountry. I was familiar with some of the information as my husband is a native of the lowcountry and I am a native South Carolinian who has taught SC history. Information was presented in an enjoyable manner, the sites we visited were well selected. I would recommend this tour to others and I would like to take another Carolina Food Pros tour next time I am in the Charleston area.

We had the tour on a Saturday when the farmers market was in session. The information given about the history of the local foods and then the tour of the market that followed was a perfect fit. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys food.

Fran, our tour guide was great. Very knowledgable and fun. I don't know what we would have done without the wonderful farmers market going on. It would have been fun to see and taste from a few local restaurants, but my wife and I had a wonderful time.

Savor the Flavors

Savor the Flavors was a worthwhile walk through Charleston. The Market talk/walk was interesting and we had a variety of items to taste. The stop at the tea shop, Teavana, was disappointing as we spent too much time there. It is always a pleasure to stop at a chocolate shop and the chocolate we tasted were as interesting as the history behind them. I would recommend the tour.

Could have included more real food.

The tour was interesting and provided a narrow view of Tastes of the Low Country. The grits at the Dixie Supply and Cafe were very good. My wife and I stopped there several times during our visit. They made a grits eater out of my wife. The stop at The Cooks store was a little lacking. It was more like a commercial than a Taste of the Low Country. The Benne wafers did not seem to be a good representation of the Low Country tastes. The Belgium Chocolate stop was definitely not representative of the Low Country. The Main Street Sweet Shop presented a good use of the regionally grown pecans, the pralines were delicious. We had to get some to take home with us. The final stop at the restaurant was very nice. It gave the tour group a wonderful taste of a low country meal. I would have liked to see something like Shrimp and Grits or a Gumbo in the mix of flavors on the tour. Something that showcased the Gullah style of cooking.

This was our favorite part of Charleston

Our tourguide was wonderful ( Sarah Cothran). The food was great and the history we learned along the way was very interesting. We will do it again. It gave us a chance to sample things we wouldn't have had time to fit into the schedule otherwise.
