History, Food & Exercise Combined

By walking to eating destinations in Old Town you learn about the history of the town along the way while simultaneously building up an appetite and suspense regarding your next destination. Food was tasty and, contrary to expectations, portions were not small.

Excellent historic tour and okay food experience

The historical walking tour of Alexandria was wonderful. The majority of the food was fairly good, however it seemed that the food had been sitting out for sometime at 2 of the 3 restaurants (specifically Bilbo Baggins and Pita House). I would recommend coordinating the timing of food preparation with the tours, so that the tours are served food at an appropriate temperature. The lebanese restaurant was my least favorite due to the shabby looking interior, and the food was quite cold. I truly enjoyed walking around town and hearing the historical facts--the guide was quite knowledgeable. Our guide said the walking was only 1.5 miles. However, I would question this estimate, and the walking may be a bit much for an elderly tour group. Perhaps instead of three small meals, a full lunch and a dessert stop would be a better and more complete experience.

Excellent tour with just the right mix of current information, historical anecdotes and surprisingly good food from restaurants hidden in plain sight.

This is a great new tour company with a great idea - mix a tour of Old Town with food tasting at some great restaurant. I strongly recommend it and look forward to addtional tours of DC as they expand their venue.

A must to do, for anyone visiting Alexandria Va.

I have lived in Alexandria for the past 6-8 months and have never understood why everyone’s so fascinated with "Old Town Alexandria." Well I am here to say that this tour put the "Ole" in "Old town." The tour did not only reveal the deep history of that beautiful city, but it also allowed me to see and enjoy some of the diverse restaurants within the city. Opening not only my eyes but also my taste buds... And I just cant wait for friends and family to come visit, not only do I have somewhere to take them but also let them discover the beauty with the city limits of Old Town Alexandria... Special thanks Jeff and his lovely wife I hope everyone who either come to visit or relocate to this area, take the time to not only learn Alexandria's deep history but, enjoy the richness that small city has to offer... Rick

Entertaining, informed afternoon with good food

I decided to buy tickets for the tour as part of a day-out with my girlfriend. I didn't quite know what to expect before the tour started, but by the end, had had a really good afternoon. The guided tour of Alexandria was not the typical historical drawl - instead it was a combination of quirky facts, tidbits about the modern/historical neighbourhoods and some good (and varied) food. I would highly recommend the tour - especially as part of a fuller day-out in the area.

Worth it if you like history and eating

When I saw that this was a food tour; I had the idea that it would be a tour where you eat lots of food. Well, this tour had that and I wasn't hungry at the end - but it really was more of a historical tour with a visit to 3 restaurants and a coffee shop to "cool" off. Unfortunatley, if you have done the day tours, you end up getting duplication for some of the time. I'll have to decide if I want to do the DC tour if it is the same format. All that being said - I still enjoyed the tour and I had not eaten at all of the restaurants AND I found a great place to buy coffee and tea. So all in all I recommend the tour in Old Town Alexandria if you want to get a little taste of history and eat some good food.

Because I am a local, maybe I am being too harsh, but this tour could be better. Keep: Bilboa Baggins Christ Church Union Street Tavern (change the fried oysters to something else not greasy and more universally liked) Ditch: the small museums torpedo factory Lebanese place Add: one of the house museums (like Alexander's house?) one of the waterfront restaurants the jelly cake was good, but not the grand finale everyone raved about.

Office team enjoyed this very much

The enthusiasm of the tour guide was a real plus, without being too over the top. She clearly enjoys what she does and is able to share that perspective well. The food was really excellent; top quality, a broad range, we got to sample many things that we had never tried before. Even with the standard Virginia summer afternoon downpour, we didn't feel it impacted our enjoyment at all. Even though we are all local, several of us discovered products and eateries that we hadn't known were here. Really a fun way to get to know your fellow employees better, in a relaxed environment.

Our Food Tour of Old Alexandria was so much more than a food tour. We learned interesting history and tidbits about the neighborhood. Visited the church George Washington attended, visited the Torpedo Factory Archeological Museum, etc. Our Tour Guides were knowledgeable and charming. And the restaurants served an eccletic assortment of dishes, a nice variety. Certainly didn't need any dinner that night!
