My friends and I enjoyed our tour guide's historical information about the town. The food was fairly good but different selection could be made at the initial restaurant and more information about the food served at the lebanese restaurant. Our favorite was the couscous and scallops at the 'Firehouse'. |

Robert was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable both about local history as well as the food establishments we were visiting and the cuisine we would have at each. My only disappointment was that the FAQ section of this tour had noted we would be making 7 stops and there were only 4 on the tour. My decision to take the Georgetown tour was based largely on that as I thought it would be more of a tasting experience with many different types of foods. That being said, the stops that we did make were great and the food was delicious. Plan on 4 hours rather than the 3-3.5 listed. |

Perfect for people who live in DC, and tourists.
I lived there for 2.5 years, my fiance for 25 years, and for romantic weekend we decided to take the Old Town Alexandria food tour with Leslie (our guide) who was delightful!
The tour was 3.5 hours long, and $60 per person (worth every penny) We started off in Market Square, and ventured to four places along the tour, all the while Leslie giving us really interesting facts about the history of DC and Old Town. This was perfect for us, being that I am a bit of a foodie, and my significant other loves history. Our group has a total of 12 with locals and people visiting. We stopped at Virtue Feed and Grain (delicious homemade Hop tails (beer cocktails), the Columbia Firehouse (really great risotto, and scallop with many, many local beers) The Pita House (which was my favorite, super clean flavor, grandma's simple yet yummy recipes) and Bittersweet Bakery (Alexandria Jelly cake). It was a beautiful day to walk the streets of Alexandria with the Cherry Blossoms and brides everywhere, its a perfect thing to do in the Spring/Summer. Great for a gift for your boss, parents, boyfriend/girlfriend, or anyone. They also do private tours for bridal parties and team building corporate activities. We had walked by several of these places time and time again, and didn't know the great food that was inside! Leslie was super friendly, knowledgeable about the DC food scene, and very personable. I would highly recommend this tour, or others in DC for anyone who loves food, or is looking to do something new and different in DC. |

We (my husband and I) really should have tried this earlier in our vacation, as we had a really nice time!
We took the Old Town Alexandria Food Tour. We walked all around Old Town Alexandria. Our guide, Leslie, was extremely knowledgeable. There were 10 of us in the tour, some locals, others not. The locals said they learned some new facts about Alexandria that they had not known. We (tourist) definitely learned about Old Town Alexandria. Along the tour, we stopped, as Leslie (our guide), told us interesting stories and facts about various houses and buildings. We saw one of the two remaining cobblestone streets in Alexandria (but I won't mention the name, as you need to take the tour to learn that). We also learned what the "purple door" meant back in colonial time. If you want learn what those meant, please take the tour.
Oh, where is the food you ask? We stopped at four different restaurants along the tour, and were treated to four different meals, one of which was dessert. Dessert was the Jelly Cake - again, you'll find out more about this cake when you take the tour. By the way, it was Yummy!
Would we recommend DC Metro Food Tours - YES!!!! They offer other tours for other areas in DC. We are planning on other vacations to the area, and will definitely take more of the DC Metro Food Tours. Maybe they can come out west too? It's just a suggestion. Thanks DC Metro Food Tours! |

Offered a variety of cuisine and local fare, while walking approximately 1.5 miles. Historical anecdotes accompanied the on-foot portion which were entertaining and informative. Our food stops included a cheddar cheese skillet with grilled veggies and a cocktail (appetizer), scallops and couscous, lebanese sampler (humus, pita, beef/chicken, etc), and a coffee and cake dessert. All of the food was delicious! We went as a couple and didn't know anyone else in our group, which was still a lot of fun, but I think this would be a great outing with a group of friends. Atmosphere is laid back with plenty of time for conversation. |

Our guide, Robert, was very friendly and informative. We had been on a food tour in another city, and the Georgetown tour was longer, but it had less food stops than the one in the other city. It was a combination walking tour of Georgetown and a food tour. We enjoyed eating with people from other areas of the country during the food stops. |

I figured with the amount of money, that we'd be getting really good food, the best of the local stuff. I know part of the $60/person went to the mediocre history tour which I'm more or less indifferent to. I was there for a "food hop" (as opposed to a bar hop) and to know what's the good stuff to eat in bustling Fells Point. I felt I had to eat the mediocre food given or I would have gotten hungry. We probably spent retail $25/person on food, if that. For example, when we got to dessert, a fried PBJ sandwich which actually tasted quite amazing (best thing on the menu), we were served a quarter sandwich. Really, you have to skimp on portions for something as cheap as PBJ?
Second thing, which I have a HUGE beef about. Previous reviews talked about getting a great crab cake. If there is a food tour in Baltimore, there has to be a crab cake. We got, of all things, a chicken cake. It wasn't the worst thing to eat but how are you going to show off Baltimore food and not have a crab cake? For my trip I didn't plan seafood elsewhere b/c I thought I'd be getting it here. The guide seemed obliged to talk up the food. One course at the tapas restaurant was horrible chick peas, a mushroom dish and a very plain meatball.
If you are a TRUE foodie, I recommend you pull out a smart phone, get on Yelp, walk the area and do your own food tour. It will be cheaper and taste much better. (p.s. afterwards we got a dog from Stuggys - pretty amazing) |

We really enjoyed visiting the different restaurants with all the variety of foods that were introduced. We also loved the history surrounding our particular area ( Georgetown ), and enjoyed the many interesting insights introduced to us by our quide. ( He was wonderful )! When going back to D.C., we are looking forward to going on another food tour offered in a different neighborhood. |
