Food Great; Tour Needs Work

On the positive side, the food was wonderful, and there was a lot of it. Definitely come hungry and don't plan on eating dinner after. Also, I thought this was a great thing to do with my out-of-town guests whom otherwise wouldn't have made it to this DC neighborhood. However, the "tour" portion left something to be desired. I know that this is one of the company's newer tours, but the guide would forget the items of interest. We would frequently hear things along the lines of "A famous person once lived here. I'm drawing a blank on who it was, but anyway, moving on..." There was also very little description of the food we were eating. The guide would give a brief description (e.g., "it's chicken and vegetables"), but couldn't give us much more than that. Additionally, there were 13 people the day we took the tour, and it was difficult for the whole group to hear the guide's spiel. Often, she would speak in the direction of what she was pointing out, rather than at the group, so only those closest to her would be able to hear. I think there is definite potential for this tour, but you might wait until they iron out the kinks and the guide gets a little more experience.

Fabulous Foodie Outing

What a fantastic tour concept! Walking around Old Town Alexandria, learning about the history of the area AND getting to taste cuisine at various different restaurants along the way. I'm a local but scheduled this for my parents who were in town for the weekend. We all had a great time. My favorite part was the menu choices at each location, arranged by the tour owner, Jeff. He's definitely a foodie and was able to share great insight about the chefs, the foods we were eating, and offer recommendations on other great spots to hit! I can't wait to sign up for the Capitol Hill tour!

Wonderful and Informative Experience!

Christine, our tour guide, was amazing. My family loved how we went "off the beaten path" to a few non-touristy restaurants, while learning about history. We also liked trying the different types of foods. Dessert at the end was a perfect finish. I would also recommend incorporating a homemade ice cream stop as an option. We are going to try the DC Food Tour in D.C. now.

Top Pick for Alexndria!

My wife and I travelled to Alexandria for the first time and this tour was certainly the highlight of our trip. As other reviewers have commented, it provides a great deal of history paired with a number of stops to varied restaurants. Not only is this a must see for tourists, but great for locals and business travelers, that can afford the time. The real treat was that the restaurants chosen, were varied and gems tucked just away from the mainstream tourist restaurants. The food and portions were perfect and worked seamlesly with the tour. Out tour guide, Christine, had an intimate knowledge of the history of Alexandria and provided a very pleasant pace for the day. I could not recommend this more highly. Bon Appétit!

We had such a fabulous afternoon learning about the rich history of Old Town and how our fore fathers spent their time creating a new life and government for the people. We especially enjoyed the local restaurants and specialty foods of the area. Each had a unique flare- very excellent tastes and service. We can't wait to go back to a few and try other menue items. The tour guides were top notch and well versed in the history and culture of the area. We highly recommend this tour for visitors and locals alike.

This was the highlight of our visit to Alexandria. We enjoyed the historical information mixed with visits to local restaurants. We were staying with our grown children who live in Alexandria and it was nice to try new places to eat so we do not always go to just one or two places when we visit. We knew we would learn more about the area but our kids were surprised that they also learned things they did not know. The guides were knowledgable and friendly and had a great relationship with the people who run the business and attractions in the town. We want to try both the pub tour and the ghost tour. Thank you for a super fun day.

Food and History

We enjoyed the tour. We are local to the area. There was lots of history which we did not know before and the food was good. A nice friendly small group. We liked the tour but think it would be even more interesting to tourist from out of town.

Tasty Food at each stop

Our group enjoyed the tour very much. My only criticism: I liked when we were served our own individual plates, better than the one restaurant when we were serving ourselves from community platters. Serving pieces were minimal, and people (guide included) ended up using their own forks they were eating with to dish up additional food. Not very sanitary. It was definitely a walking tour, requiring good walking shoes for the brick sidewalks and endurance for the distance covered. I had done a tour like this in Boston before, and will look for additional ones in cities I'm planning to visit. It is a great way to learn about a city and visit places I might miss.

My sister and I really enjoyed this tour... I live in DC, and she was visiting from Boston, and neither of us have ever been to Old Town, and I really felt like I been going there for years... The food was great and filling, yet well spaced out, and I really learned a lot about the area and its history during this tour. I have already recommended it to all my friends, and look forward to the tour starting up for Capital Hill in May... Jeff was a great tour guide... so great that people were asking for his card along the tour, and apparently he looked like the man who knew it all, because random people kept going up to him to ask for directions, parking questions... People even stopped to hear what he was saying during the tour.... Needless to say... I highly recommend this tour... Thanks so much jeff for a wonderful experience....

We had a wonderful time. Jeff was very personable and knowledgeable. The resturant selections were varied and there wasn't a thing served that I didn't like. I will highly recommend this tour to others. And will definitely take the Capital Hill tour when established.

Excellent Food and Historical Information!

We attended the tour with 6 other people. The tour guide was informative, kind, and friendly. We enjoyed all the food and when the tour was over we felt like we'd eaten a LARGE meal. The "samples" were not what we'd consider samples, but more like meals. We did a food tour in NYC recently that did not have as many "sit down" meal samples and the samples were much smaller! We would highly reccommend this tour!

Jeff has a great thing going! The Old Town Alexandria Food and Historical Walking Tour was fabulous! It seems like Jeff has been doing this for 6 years not only 6 months! He is very knowledgeable and knows his food! I would recommend this tour for couples, families without children, and groups of friends. It was definitely 3 hours well spent!
