I was familiar with the Manson murders, but I realized after this tour that I really didn't know much. Scott (our tour guide) really was so informative and I liked his sense of humor. Plus, we saw a lot of Los Angeles that I had never seen before....and I'm a local. I would definitely recommend this tour.

A Must for True Crime Zealots

True crime fans as well as those interested in Hollywood history and show business must, must, must take this tour. There are so many connections to show business people, and so many creepy "six degrees of separation" that Scott will tell you about. You will see an amazing number of key locations and homes and will have some audio-visual information offered during the drive. The Dearly Departed Museum and shop must be visited, too, before or after your tour. Relics and photos galore! For those who are timid, the tour has ghoulish thrills, but overall mood and manner is that of deepest respect for the victims along with the urgent desire to keep this tragic part of California history remembered. Love, Peace, and Joy! Auntie Ann : - )

This was a wonderful tour. Scott was entertaining and informative. He knows his stuff. Not a cheesy or macabre tour, but historically relevant and meaningful. I've followed this case for several years but I learned I know very little about the case even after studying extensively on my own. Highly recommend!

Scott was well informed on the events that took place during the Mason Family murders. I learned new facts with regards to the murders and never realized how close I live to them. My 13 year old nephew was completely blown away and bought himself a copy of Helter Skelter.

Engaging, Informative, and Chilling

I must preface this review by saying that I have studied the Tate/ LaBianca case as well as Charles Manson and his "family" for many years. Since I don't live in Southern California I had never had the opportunity to retrace the steps of the killers and the victims until now. For anyone that is interested in this case I recommend the "Helter Skelter Tour conducted by Dearly Departed tours with no question. We were lucky enough to have Scott Michaels as our tour guide, who had an incredible depth of knowledge about the case and the people who perpetrated the crimes. If you have not seen the DVD "Six Degrees of Helter Skelter" hosted by Scott I also recommend you watch it before you go on the tour. It will give you the background needed to understand the case more thoroughly. From the moment you enter the Dearly Departed van you are immersed in the macabre world of Charles Manson and his family. Scott gives great insight into the world of those who were victims as well as the background of each so as to better understand who these people were. I thought that the use of both video and audio from many of the key players involved added an eeriness to the tour. Scott also gave many different theories as why these crimes were committed, and how the crimes were finally solved. Very interesting! Because of the nature of the crimes there is mature theme and may not suitable for younger children. The only thing that I think would add to the tour (limited by time and distance I'm sure) would be the inclusion of visiting the site of the Spahn Movie Ranch and Barker Ranch. Even though both no longer exist as they were in 1969, it still would be interesting to see the locations.

I had to change my original itinerary to be able to join this tour - and it was so worth it! Great guide with knowledge in the history of the case, and highly interesting to see the actual sights.

The Helter Skelter Tragical History Tour was everything I hoped it would be. After years of reading good books and bad books, watching good films and bad films, trawling internet sites etc I thought there wasn't much I didn't know about the Manson Murders and the Family. How wrong I was!! I learnt several new interesting facts thanks to Scott and got to see some very interesting, if rather melancholic, places. My 3,000 mile journey to LA was well worth the jetlag, tiredness and cost! I'd say if you're interested in the Manson family and the murders then you simply must do this tour. If you don't know much about the events of August 69 I'd still recommend the tour because Scott is absolutely brilliant at explaining the who/where/when/why relating to the case. The guy is a mine of information - all given in a voice you could listen to for hours(!). Also, the nature of the tour is respectful and in good taste.
