A three hour tour better than Gilligan's Island!

For those who are into offbeat Hollywood stuff, in addition to the "Dearly Departed", this tour is for you. I enjoyed this one more than I would have enjoyed all the mainstream Hollywood tours because of the various unusual haunts visited. I was also pleased at some of the things that weren't advertised, such as the Tate mansion from TV's "Soap" and George Burns' former home, etc. The tour also saved me the time and trouble of finding many Hollywood landmarks like CBS Television City, Paramount Studios and Ozzy Osbourne's former home. A great way to spend a morning or afternoon.

AN ENTERTAINING TOUR OF HOLLYWOOD HISTORY!

MY FAMILY AND I ATTENDED THE DEARLY DEPARTED TOUR RECENTLY AND IT WAS THE MOST ENTERTAINING TOUR THAT WE HAVE BEEN ON. IT WAS EXCITING TO LEARN ALL OF THE WELL-KNOWN STORIES AND OBSCURE SCANDALS THAT HAVE BECOME APART OF HOLLYWOOD. IT WAS ALSO GREAT TO SEE MOVIE LOCATIONS AND HOMES OF THE STARS, AS WELL. OUR TOUR GUIDE RICHARD WAS A BLAST. HE WAS KIND, FUNNY, AND GAVE ALL A GREAT TOUR, HE WAS ALSO VERY ACCOMODATING TO ALL OF US. THIS IS AN AMAZING TOUR OF HOLLYWOOD AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE VISITING THE LOS ANGELES AREA. THANK YOU DEARLY DEPARTED TOURS FOR A GREAT TIME!

i had a very good time taking the dearly departed tour. I was very excited, counting down the days til the tour. I was over all pleased, yet my friends were some what disappointed. i do agree with them in some aspects. i wanted to see the OJ , Phil spector, marvin gaye, judith barsi homes, along where the black dalias body was found, rather than the house she was tortured in, but sadly they were not on the tour. overall it was quite fun and i did enjoy and would take it again!

Good but not great....

The tour guide NEEDS to keep dialoge going all during the tour. There was too much quite time when he could have bantered throughout the tour. There are always things to talk about in Hollywood - the homes, the folklore, the rumors, the celebrities. He should take other tours to see how they keep the guests enthralled. He was very nice but much too quiet. Also, I expected more on old Hollywood and the deceased. My biggest disappointment was the fact that we drove right by the cemetary and never drove in! The tape telling me who was buried there didn't do the trick!

Very Unique and Entertaining Tour

My boyfriend and I really liked Scott, our tour guide. It's easy to recognize his passion for Los Angeles history. He is extremely knowledgeable and always ready to answer questions. Our only disappointment came at the end of the day when we came out of the parking garage on Hollywood and Highland. This was the *highly* recommended spot to park according to the tour website, and should have cost us only $2 for 4 hours. But once we got to the ticket taker on our way out of the garage, we found out that parking was actually $10 unless we had validation from one of the shops above us. So, that was our ONLY disappointment - that we had to shell out 5 times what we thought we'd have to for parking when we should have found street parking for free. Back to the tour: It was so cool. I'm a former resident of Hollywood, and I thought it was eye-opening to see spots with such historical significance that I'd never even passed before. You really do have to be searching for these spots to find them. And Scott has done his research well. He takes you to addresses that have never been publicized, and he makes an honest attempt to respect the privacy of those who reside in the homes visited during the course of the tour. Bring your digital camera. Pictures from inside the van actually turn out GREAT ! I was really surprised and I regretted taking only 2 pictures when I saw how nice they came out. I thought the tinted windows would make for terrible, dark photos, but they came out looking professional, with perfect lighting. a big thanks to Scott. I'd like to continue supporting him by buying his dvd about Helter Skelter history when it comes out.

He is a really nice guy and he gives you SO much information on the tour. It shows the real truth behind this horrible crime. I learned a lot, things that you don't here anywhere else. I would go on this tour again. If you are coming to L.A., you HAVE to take one of Scott's tours. And if you live here in L.A., this is a must if you are an L.A. native.

Great way to discover 'real' LA

This was a great tour. It was our first time in LA and we opted for this instead of one of the many star home tours. This was for more personal, funnier and just a tiny bit darker. Being movie fans made it all the more interesting - my wife loved the Pretty Woman fire escape! Go and do it!

We felt like this was the highlight of our trip. I like to hear macabre things but my husband is a bit hesitant to. This tour had a mixture of things we both enjoyed. It wasn't your typical boring monotone tour. The guide we had obviously put a lot of time and effort into this. He takes this very seriously. He supplied a great time for us and was a very nice and jovial guy. I didn't want it to end. I will highly recommend it to everyone!

The tour guide (Scott Michaels) has put a lot of thought and effort into providing this informational historic tour. He knows his stuff! I highly recommend this tour (probably not for young children) and plan on taking the rest of them.

Helter Skelter Tour - August 2008

This is the 2nd time I took this tour. Took it for the first time last August. Never see everything the first time...that's why I had to take it again. Scott is a great tour guide. He very animated and just generally a great guy. It's nice when everyone participates and discusses the tragedy and talks about things they read, or found out. For anyone that's interested in that time period and this tragedy, I highly recommend this tour. It's very informative and you will definitely find out things that you did not know. Plus Scott contributes $5.00 of each ticket sold to the Doris Tate Foundation. Thanks again, Scott, for the great ride. I just wish I could have gone up to Cielo Drive the night before. But maybe in the future.... J. King

This was my second time on this tour, and I would do it again. The host is very friendly, and the tour is highly interactive. The whole thing is conducted in a very comfortable intimate vehicle. The overall experience is far more specialized and relaxed than the convientional big bus tours. Scott's knowledge of his subjects seems limitless. He is the kind of tour guide you want to sit down with after and buy him a beer so you can hear his sordid tales of Hollywood. I also highly recommend his website FINDADEATH.COM. My favorite tour so far.

Haunting, Disturbing, Sad, but Fun

Learn all the gory details about those two horrible nights in August of 1969 and see where the gruesome events took place as ever-knowledgeable Host Scott Michaels leads you through Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Benedict Canyon and beyond. Hear about the last moments of Sharon Tate and her friends as well as Leno & Rosemary LaBianca in graphic detail and you will understand why this was the crime of the century. Never boring, sometimes heartbreaking, always fascinating, this tour will stay with you long after its conclusion.

This was a great tour, not only giving tourists or locals the mysteries and horrors of Hollywood, but the homes of many of the popular stars of today. I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting Hollywood anytime of the year. Can't wait to come back again next year.

We wanted to go on the Tour for a couple of years being readers of Findadeath. It didn't disappoint; right from Scott arriving on time; throughout the many locations in the comfortable bus until the end. Scott has an amazing knowledge and his enthusiasm is infectious. We had a great time and will take the Healter Skelter tour :) and his new Hollywood tour when we return to LA. Don't hesitate, just book it and enjoy! Peter Wiggins
