Best Tour in Town
Fri, Jul 24  1:00 PM colerucker1 Male 40-49 Local Family Without Children
I had a family member in town visiting and went on the tour based on the recommendation of a friend. I have been on other Hollywood tours with out of town guest- and none compared to the Dearly Departed Tour. The three hours flew- it felt more like 30 minutes. I plan to take the Helter Skelter tour and the new Movie Site tour as well. Also plan to send all of my house guests for the Dearly Departed experience.

Very fascinating!

This was a morbidly fascinating tour. The tour director was great, very fun to be with--the small group of 13 in the van was great. Recommend for adults only, older adults would be most likely to be interested probably. Have already recommended to some friends at work.

Tour is good but the guide was extremely rude
Tue, Jul 21  1:00 PM sonyas Female 40-49 Unspecified Group of Friends
I enjoyed the tour itself but our tour guide at the end of the tour expected more of a tip then I offered him. He refused my money and told me and another lady that had a few dollars tip for him that he hoped we did not tip our waiters and waitresses like that there, and, that it was very rude to try and give someone a dollar or 2 for a tip. This was my first tour and I did not even know we could tip the guy in the first place. I had no other change then $ 100's and told him that and that it was my first tour and I didn't know. He was not understandable at all or kind. He said, "you do not EVER do that here", that it was so rude. I felt like telling him if someone gives you something they did not even have to give after already having payed for the tour and out of kindness you should at least be respectful about it. When we left there I heard the other lady saying how rude he was too. Out of all the tours we went on this was the only one that even had a gradtuity sign up in the van. It should have said " pay me $ 10.00 or up and I will be happy... Ruined my vacation day...

Review of Dearly Departed Hollywood Tour
Mon, Jul 20  1:00 PM mlong2728 Male 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Richard was our tour guide and provided an interesting tour...very knowledgable. The only negative about the tour was the van air conditioner doesn't work very well and made the tour somewhat uncomfortable. Enjoyed going by the house where Michael Jackson died. Wished we would have gone by the house where the Tate murders happened and the house where Marilyn Monroe died.

Well worth it

Great overview of LA covering a lot of places; very informative and fun. Nice small van made it accessible to many areas and only a dozen people at a time on the tour seemed to make it easier. Meeting at the Farmers Market area was convenient. The tour seemed very well planned to maximize use of your time; always something interesting to see/hear about along the way. The tour was neither too long nor too short. And the information provided helped over my next few days in LA, as I noticed things I had seen on the tour, which helped me get my bearings. This is a great tour if you are a first time visitor and/or don't have a lot of time but want to see a lot and get a sense of the city. It is not as grim or morbid as some might think, but still shows some of the darker history of the city. On the tour I took, they had just added Michael Jackson's last residence.

Awesome experience!

My teen daughter and I took this tour as part of our LA getaway. We both thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Our guide, Richard, was extremely knowledgeable about Hollywood. Richard played music, 911 tapes, and spoke throughout the tour keeping our interest for the entire 3 1/2 hours! There was some humor, some horror, and some macabre. There was also time for photos. I highly recommend this tour and look forward to returning to California to do another tour with Dearly Departed. An awesome experience and well worth the time.

The tour was very enjoyable. Perfect amount of time and a great tour guide. Was hoping for a little more of the dark side of Hollywood as advertised but all and all a very enjoyable experience.

The tour was very informative and entertaining. The tour guide (Richard) really knew his stuff, was very cordial, and answered all questions. The only negative was that in the extreme heat, the air conditioning was inefficient. The van was a little stuffy, but tolerable.

It was great, the driver was very knowledgeable.

The only disappointment we had was that we did not go by the house that the Sharon Tate murders were committed. I know it has been torn down and rebuilt but we would have liked to drive by. We enjoyed the tour tremendously and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Not that happy.

The van was uncomfortable. We were cramped together. It would have been nice to know the George Michaels stop was the only restroom stop. I thought he was giving us the photo books and took no pictures because they were in the books. We passed the Hollywood sign so quick we could not take photos anyway. The sites were great and the driver was very informative. The tour needs a more comfortable vehicle and some clarity. I would still recommend it.

Loved It!!!
Wed, Jul 15  1:00 PM darrendana Female 30-39 Unspecified Family With Children
My husband and I along with out 2 children (17 & 19) loved this tour. Scott was great and he had lots of information. It was the highlight of our vacation. Its very nice because there arent too many people on the bus with you. The book that Scott provides for you is great. It really helps you see things more clearly and helps you if you didnt know alot about that specific crime. Scot was also very helpful about goivng us ideas about other things to do in the area. If we ever visit L.A. again this tour will be at the top of out "do agian" list.

My husband and I went on the Dearly Departed tour early last week. While I was aware that the tour would enclude some viewing of stars homes, I did not realize that this would be the majority of the tour. As the name implies, I expected more of the darker side of Hollywood; deaths, ghosts, etc. I was sorely disappointed. If you are looking for a tour of mostly the Hollywood glitter and glamour, then this is the tour for you. If you are looking for a darker type of tour I would recommend you look elsewhere.

A few suggesions from two Connecticut couples
Mon, Jul 13  1:00 PM ShaDav Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
1. More air conditioning for the couple behind the driver 2. 75% of the attractions were on the left side of the van and we sat on the right side 3. Visability could have been better; too bad the windows weren't larger 4. I would have liked to take home some of the pictures that were in the binders instead of the police report. All in all we loved the tour. Our driver was fantastic. We highly recommend it.

If you are at all interested in the death of notables in the LA/ Hollywood area, this trip is a must. It takes you on the famous & not so famous celebrities places of not only death, but unique happenings in their life. The tour host was very knowledable and gracious, and the cost was extremely reasonable. I would highly recommend this tour.
