Scott provides a very entertaining tour with his own commentary, audio supplements, still photos and video. I loved seeing all the places which I had already read so much about. He even provided directions out to Spahn Ranch which I went and saw as well (not part of the tour). His love of what he does is readily apparent and which adds greatly to the overall experience.

A Must See in Los Angeles!

I've first saw Helter Skelter on TV back in 1976 when it first aired. I've read the book about 5 times. Have always wanted to take this tour but I live in Florida and rarely get out to California. My last trip to California was ten years ago! Well now in 2013 I needed to be in San Diego for about 10 days but only had 1 free day to spend. Luck was on my side because August 8th was my free day and that was the anniversary of Helter Skelter murders. I booked my spot back in April to make sure i got in because I knew it would sell out. I was lucky again when I got to Dearly Departed's location and learned that Scott Michaels would be giving the tour. Scott is so knowledgeable about this case and all the locations. He plays music from that era. Shows slides and videos too. Answers questions. Slows down and stops at important places so you can take photos. You even get a small keepsake to take home. A small piece of stone from the actual fireplace of the Tate house. If you are in Los Angeles. Take this tour !!!!!!!!

I have to admit that even though I've read "Helter Skelter", seen both made for TV movies, and read other publications on the Manson murders, I still learned quite a bit more from this excellent tour! Scott Michaels who narrates the excellent "Six Degrees of Helter Skelter", conducted this tour and shared his knowledge of the Tate-LaBianca murders and provided interesting extra information that we didn't know about from the books and the movies. The tour is 3 and a 1/2 hours and takes you to both the Tate and LaBianca residences but there is so much more. All I can say is that if you have any interest on this subject then this is a great tour to take - I loved it!

Just a little about myself before I go into the review....I took this tour on 7/31/13. I am 31, from NY and was out in LA with four other friends my age also from NY. We all enjoyed the tour immensely! Brian, our driver and tour guide, was outstanding! His wealth of knowledge about the subject matters covered on the tour were outstanding and impressive. His stories and great sense of humor made the tour even more enjoyable. The "tragic" side of LA was covered in-depth and I saw/heard just about everything I wanted to. I had high expectations for this tour based on reviews I've read, as well as frequenting Scott's Findadeath site before. My expectations were surpassed! I will recommend this tour to anyone who asks. Next time I am in LA, I will definetly look into taking one of the other tours offered by Dearly Departed. Scott and Brian, keep up the fine work!

We found out about this tour from a mention in the New York Times and planned a trip to LA with it as the centerpiece. Given that Allison is an icon we expected the tour to be in high demand and held on a massive Greyhound bus with minimal interaction. Instead she hosted us on a 12 passenger bus and was wonderful, funny and personable. Her patter with the driver (a close friend) was like that of a pair of morning radio hosts and at 3 hours we more than got our money’s worth. She was even game enough to allow us to take pictures with us under the Hollywood sign in bonnets and a “Nellie Olson” wig. It was like being shown around LA by a friend and was the best guided tour I've ever been on.

Very interesting and fun. Brian Donnelly, our guide, was super-enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I recommend this tour highly to anyone interested in Hollywood.

I am a fan of the web site "Find a Death" which motivated me to take this tour while I was visiting my son who lives in Hollywood. He is the lead guitar player for Katy Perry and even though he is from Iowa he has become a Californian in some ways. My wife, son and I had a really great time on this tour. I was hoping for Shawn Michael but our guide was very enthusiastic and obviously loves his job. It amazed me how all these events happened in such a small radius in the Hollywood, Beverly Hills area. Had a great time!!

Worth Your Time

I had previously taken the Hollywood Tragical History with Richard as the guide/driver. So, this is my second trip with DD Tours. I was interested in taking The Helter Skelter Tour because I had previously seen Scott Michaels' DVD, "Six Degrees of Helter Skelter". In fact, Scott led this tour and is one of the best tour guides I have ever had the good fortune to experience. He has a wealth of knowledge about Manson and his Family and the events of August 1969 and communicates it effectively and comprehensively within the confines of the 3.5 hour tour. The video and audio clips he played added to the overall quality of the presentation. Scott treated all of the tour members very well both with respect and attentiveness. His enthusiasm for the subject matter is clear. If you are in the Los Angeles area and are at all interested in taking a "trip" back to the Summer of 1969, Scott's tour is well worth your time....you will not be disappointed.

I love returning to my old smog shrouded stomping grounds of the 70s! "Atlantis will rise. Sunset Blvd will fall. Where the beach used to be, there won't be anything at all. They tell me the fault line runs right through here." I was really expecting creepy, but it was actually more factual and entertaining. Bryan was a great guy and was able to hold my 15 year olds attention (no easy feat!). Overall, very good!

Dearly lacking

We took this tour because we were told by friends that it was a fun time with lots of laughs. Unfortunately, it was lacking in both. The tour itself was well-organized and filled with enough TMZ-type fodder to satisfy anyone's dark side. However, it was presented by someone who was not entertaining. Pleasant, likable, and nice - yes. But this tour needed someone who was dearly dark and funny and could elicit yucks. That said, I'd still recommend Dearly Departed. They have several tours and enough positive reviews for me to tell people to give it a shot.

Great tour-- Allison was so sweet, down to earth, and served realness and shade throughout. She has a million stories, talks a mile a minute and you will laugh yourself sick. Highly recommended, especially if you are a Nellie Oleson or Little House Fan.

Hollywood Tour from POV of a former child actor

If you enjoyed Little House in the Prairie and other shows from the 1970's and often wondered what happened to those actors, then look no further. The Nasty Nellie Oleson tour will cover everything you wanted to know about that show along with others from the POV of the former child actress that played Nellie Oleson. Its full of trivia and brings you to many points of interest around Hollywood, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
