Learn all the gory details about those two horrible nights in August of 1969 and see where the gruesome events took place as ever-knowledgeable Host Scott Michaels leads you through Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Benedict Canyon and beyond. Hear about the last moments of Sharon Tate and her friends as well as Leno & Rosemary LaBianca in graphic detail and you will understand why this was the crime of the century. Never boring, sometimes heartbreaking, always fascinating, this tour will stay with you long after its conclusion.

This tour uses a smaller vehicle that seats only 12 or so people, which allows for a more personalized tour, with interaction with the tour operator. The tour shows a movie clip on the dvd player in the van, and then shows you the actual place used in the clip. Every location you are shown is documented by the clips, so there is no question that what you are seeing is real. Brian, our tour operator, was a font of Hollywood knowledge, and kept the tour fun, interesting, and informative. He shared personal knowledge and information, in addition to what was memorized patter, and was happy to answer questions and have a conversation. I live in LA and have taken several different tours with out of town guests, and would not only recommend this tour (and the Dearly Departed Tour, run by the same tour company), but this will be the tour I take out of town guests on going forward.

Awesome Tour and Brian was Amazing!

I have to say that after finding this tour online and reading the previous reviews, my expectations were high and I was expecting to enjoy the ride. Dearly Departed Tour surpassed my expectations, and that was mostly due to our awesome tour guide, Brian. He was incredibly informed, enthusiastic and and we enjoyed the entire trip because you could just feel how excited and passionate Brian was to share everything he knew about the people and places on the tour. I highly recommend this event for anyone interested in Los Angeles history and we are already planning to go back to a different tour they offer that focuses on famous movies and scene locations. Thanks for an amazing tour, Brian!

We were crammed in the last 2 rear seats of a rickety van and had the loud cold air conditioner blowing right on our heads. When we asked the driver to turn it down he said it's either on or off. We asked to turn it off but were over ruled by a group of extremely overweight ladies who took up all the room in the van. The driver was extremely graphic of the descriptions and used vulgar words. He also pointed out "tranny hookers" on the street. He seemed to take pleasure in describing events in extreme graphic detail about people that no-one had heard of and some of the descriptions were really disgusting- cutting people in half, defecating down peoples mouths and cutting off thier genitals and shoving them down the throat of a victim. We just had lunch and almost threw up. . Also the graphic pictures of mutilated bodies was very disturbing as well.We got off half way through- at the bathroom where George Michael got a arrested for lewd behavior- not really interested in that. All in all will never recommend this. Driver was a twisted individual and not even apologetic when we said it was not for us and we were getting off. Terrible experience and feel ripped off by the 84$ charge.

I took my wife and father on this tour. My dad hasn't been to Hollywood ever and I thought he would get into this. He's big into learning new things and I'm sure he will take this home with him. I liked Scott's personality...very knowledgable about what he's talking about. Liked that it wasn't all doom and gloom (though I wish we could have driven past the Cielo Drive, Sharon tate site...I guess that would be covered in the Manson tour). Anyway, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone coming through town and would probably go on this tour again if given the chance. Nice job Scott!

Inside Info on Hollywood Heartache

Interesting tour of the grimmer side of Hollywood, at times sad, but at other times amusing. The guide, Scott, is very knowledgeable of Hollywood history, and he provides a lot of detailed information, but wasn't very personable or friendly, and even treated some questions as annoying. I think he might be a little bit bored doing this day after day. Nevertheless, I would recommend this tour of Hollywood, that is, to those who are interested in the grimmer side of glamorous Hollywood.

Had a ball... Some of the tour I was already familiar with, being that I'm local. There were a few surprises and details I wasn't aware of. I'd take this tour again!!

Morbid but Comprehensive Hollywood History Tour
Sun, Feb 2  1:00 PM Thomasmcdona Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Although this tour was in formative, neighborhoods traveled through beautiful, stories told sad and some times harrowing - it was a disappointment. The van, which accommodates twelve, was terrible for viewing all of the properties pointed out in the tour. I had a Window seat and saw mostly front doors to a multitude of homes from marilyn monroe's to George Burns. The tour guide, Richard, spoke so quickly during the three hours that our entire back row had trouble following at times. I don't feel any tour guide should give you anxiety just by talking. You do get a comprehensive history of Hollywood, but I don't feel this is a tour for people that enjoy walking tours or ghost tours. You are confined to a van for over three hours, and you stop once at a farmers market for fifteen minutes for a bathroom break. Many of the people we learned about, (whose homes where they shed the mortal coil) we passed, were either distant relics or personages we had never heard of. We drove by hotels where Janis Joplin died of heroine overdose, and where the room in which she met her end at 27 is reserved at a premium on the anniversary of her death (REALLY morbid). The Viper Room on Sunset where River Phoenix died, the Whiskey a Go Go where the Doors performed and Goldie Hawn was a "Go-Go", Michael Jackson's home where he took his last breaths, the Beverly Hilton where Whitney Houston was found in a bathtub, the living room where Bugsie Siegel was shot nine times - all a part of history but a sad one. The most brutal and disturbing of all on the tour being the Black Dhalia case, which was never solved. The van passes the location where her body was found, supplemental shocking photographs of her body are provided to the tour group, and everyone is left with a feeling of horror and sadness. I cant say that I would recommend this particular tour. It was a real bummer not being able to see the majority of the buildings that were pointed out. We also visited many sites of people buried so far in the past that even someone like me, who has seen many films from the silver screen, felt no connection or had no recognition of these people.

This was a very fun and informative tour. The AV stuff on the bus really enhanced the experience, and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. A very enjoyable experience, highly recommend it!

I am an LA native and thought this was a GREAT activity. I learned so much about my city that I never knew. Our guide (and tour owner) Scott was great. He knew SO much and had answers to all of our quirky questions. I would HIGHLY recommend this to locals and visitors alike!

My husband and I took this tour after experiencing the Movie Tour with our son from the same operators, having thoroughly enjoyed it. We were on holiday from the UK and took the tour on Wednesday 15th September 2010. From an international tourist point of view this tour covered all the area's that the first time visitor to LA would wish to visit, Beverly Hills and The Sunset Strip included. Even though we had a car with so much to pack in it was unlikely we'd have seen these area's without this tour. Brian our tour guide was warm, friendly, funny and very knowledgeable about his subject.; his passion and enthusiasm for the movie industry and it's seedier tales and characters was immense. The tour doesn't concentrate entirely on the scandal or murders of LA, Brian also made sure that if we passed anything interesting on our way to a planned itinery location that he pointed out homes or roads that would be of interest to anyone generally interested in movies. I was slightly disappointed that we didn't get to Marilyn Monroe's last home but we decided to visit Marilyn's grave in Westwood, Marilyn's home would have been further away and we realised that the geography would have been impossible for the tour operators to include, having said that we did see a couple of her former homes which she had lived in for longer periods than the last house and the history associated with those properties was just as interesting. We really liked Brian and would love to meet him again if we returned to LA and would definately do the Helter Skelter or Nasty Nellie Tour.

Awesome - The Unadvertised Extras

This was an awesome experience. It was cool to see all of the out of the norm stuff! The experiences that were shared were awesome! I think the two coolest things were: #1 - The referral to the Parissiene Florist to see the Joe DiMaggio baseball. I almost missed my plane, would have been worth it. # 2 - The field from the movie Grease, my wife filpped at the rather poor pictures. Personally, I can't stand the movie, but I got brownie points. Thanks!!!! Craig
