As a certified "whale geek," I've been on a lot of whale watching cruises with a variety of companies. My afternoon on the water with Dana Wharf Whale Watching definitely ranks near the top of all my experiences. The crew was helpful, informative and courteous. We learned about the area, the animals and more. The boat was fantastic. Clean, stable, well appointed. There was plenty of room for everyone to have a great view. Oh, and the view? We were treated to great looks at blue whales, common dolphins and California sea lions. Not to mention the beauty of the California coastline.
We had a fantastic time. We'd recommend Dana Wharf Whale Watching to anyone looking for a good, safe wildlife viewing adventure. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Southern California! |

We saw several marine mammals (including several dolphins, sea lions and a grey whale). The marine biologist onboard gave us a lot of detailed information and really added to our experience. The boat ride was comfortable and fun and we were able to get really close to dolphins, which was very exciting... especially for the little ones! This was an AWESOME trip! I would like to go every year at migration season!!! |

There wasn't a whale to be found, saw some dolphins. They gave us a 1/2 off next ticket, which was nice of them. |

The whale watch trip was incredible. The catamaran was the perfect size boat and was so comfortable. Our captain knew exactly where to take us and we saw whales and a huge pod of dolphins! It was a great trip and I am definitely going again. |

When on the whale watching tour from Dana Point CA saw two blue whales and had a great time. The captain was very knowledgeable and informative. Would go again if I had the chance. Kids loved it also. |

I go out with a group of 25 to 40 people every few months . on both the Catamaran and regular boat. Every trip
is a little different like the moods of the sea. We almost always have lots of dolphins come to play, sometimes
small pods and sometimes the ocean bubbles with 1000's of dolphins leaping and playing. The common
dolphins always want to hang out with the boat. on the Solstice we saw two whales blow like Old Faithful
and surface like islands rising out of the sea. Then we got "tailed". A bunch of porpoises showed up like they came
for a play date. The captains are all terrific, keeping you well informed and going the extra mile to make sure
you have the best experience possible. It's a great way to spend a few hours on the sea with our ocean
dwelling friends and seeing our beautiful coastline. |

Had company in town and was lucky enough to see a blue whale, many dolphins and sea lions. Went in hunt of killer whales that had been sighted but no luck. Even though, trip was great to be out on the water. Boat was clean, comfortable and not crowded. Staff was helpful and informative. |

the pod of dolphins we encountered was a lot of fun. I would suggest that the crew prohibit cigar smoking on the cruise. A few people got a little 'green' - not from the cruise, but from the inconsiderate passenger smoking a nasty cigar. |

This is a really great trip. I would have given 5 stars but it was lacking in the Marine Expert department but otherwise a great trip.
As advertised we were supposed to get a 20 minute presentation and video on Blue Whale research as well as have a marine biologist on board to educate on Blue Whales and marine life as well as interact with our guests. They had some information boards present and a friendly bartender / crew but no presentation and no interaction. At least not for us and we didn't seek it out.
The highlights...other than the beautiful weather we had. This is NOT a fishing charter boat used for whale watching durring its off time, it was a VERY VERY clean boat, comfortable galley, nice wide open bow, smooth ride, and very stable when stopped to watch the whales. The boat was not crowded. We had a small group of no more than 20 people on board so everyone had a good view. Once we spotted a whale we got a bit of interesting information about the whales and then the chase began. The whale would surface off in the distance and we woulld give chase. We did this about 4 or 5 times before our time was up and we had to return to port.
All in all, we had a great time and would definatly do it again. I would recommend this trip to anyone. |
