too crowded
Sun, Jul 19, 09   6:30 AM thegrau Male 40-49 Local Group of Friends
This operation books too many people to make it truely enjoyable. The boat was elbow to elbow from bow to stern. but as they say, the worst day of fishing is better than the best day of work and we did catch some fish and the deckhands were helpful. I'm sure I will go again, but never again on the weekend unless they limit their load.

Twilight Fishing highly reco. but not w/Dana Wharf
Sat, Jul 18, 09   5:30 PM mooyeado Male 30-39 Local Group of Friends
Twilight fishing is great, however, I will not bring friends again to Dana Wharf. This was like my sixth time of bringing friends (in groups) and all but one time I and they came home with nothing. I had 5 people with me this time, and when everyone was catching fish they decided to move to another spot because most were smaller. I had 4 other people that were gonna come but couldn't make it--thank God. Well, we didn't get anymore bites the rest of the night--even after 2 more moves. We should have stayed where we were catching fish. I know you can't catch fish every time, but this isn't the first trip that we were catching fish and they decided to move. Aside from occassionally using the benefits of Kids Club, I probably wont use Dana Wharf again. I've had sucky experiences with about 30 different friends I've taken to Dana Wharf, including a bunch of friends for my brother's bachelor party night. Tooo disappointing.

Sum Fun is NO Fun!

Honestly, I would have to say that the 1/2 day trip on the SUM FUN was NO FUN! I go out quite a bit but mainly out of San Diego. This was my first trip out of Dana. Maybe I have been spoiled by the excellent service recieved from Point Loma, and H&M Landing, but the boat "SUM FUN" out of Dana was terrible. The deck hands were awful, sure I cought fish, but again the service from the hands was horrible. I would not reccomend this trip at all. The main problem was the crew, they were not good at all.

Fun Trip for the Money but crowded

I took my 6 year old son on the half day trip. Overall we had a great bonding experience, and that is what matters. We went on the half day so it was only $19.50 each. Very reasonable. The boat was very crowded. If you go get there early and rush on to the boat so you can get a seat on the back. The crew was nice. We caught a few fish which was exciting for a 6 year old, but nothing big enough to keep.We only purchased 1 rod and reel with our tickets, but they gave us 2 which was neat to. My son had a hamburger on the boat for $5.50 so it was reasonable too.The strangest part was when we arrived to check in. It was a little confusing as to which line was the check in and which was for purchasing. So everyone was standing in line and the lady that worked there started literally yelling at everyone to back out the door and form a line. It was kind of strange because we had all just arrived and she was borderline manic. There was no need for it and just made everyone more confused. I think it kind of started the trip out in a somber mood for all the visitors. Most people are on vacation trying to enjoy themselves and the lady just started spazzing out. Anyways as for the parking we had no problem finding it. There were spots open everywhere. Overall fun for a dad and 6 year old, and the price was great.

Memories

My great grandson (age 10) and I caught a lot of fish (although they were all too small to keep) and we had fun. It will be a day to be remembered by both of us. Good trip for a first timer.

I would definitely recommend this trip

Overall our family very much enjoyed our fishing trip. Everyone caught a fish and the kids had so much fun! The only thing I would change is maybe going on a day that is not so busy because I can't even count how much time my husband spent un-tangleing and redoing lines because the people are just too close together. Also there is not enough seating!! After a long week of vacationing and walking, the last thing we wanted to do was stand for 5 hours. The guys helping on the boat were over the top great with making sure that everyone had what they needed and were there most of the time when you needed help. We will definitely try another trip again in the future. Thanks!

Father's Day Gift

I thought this would be a great Father's Day present for my fiance. My daughter had a great time playing with the live bait and a little fishing. My fiance and I caught some fish and we all enjoyed the weather.

A rather "generic" fishing trip.

The trip was scheduled out at 1245pm. We actually waited for a family of four AFTER departure! What' up with that? Crowded boat, went to some places where you just catch everyday fish. It was like fishing with a hook and line off the dock in Minnesota; you're guaranteed to catch a bunch but you wouldn't want any of them. I understand we're not "sportfishing" but we expected more. The Sunday special was affordable but I'm glad I didn't pay retail price!

Had a great time!

I love fishing, and going to Dana Point is the best spot to do it. The crew is very nice, and the other fisherman on the boat are friendly and great to talk to. The only drawback is the price of beer, $3.50 for a can of coors light is a bit extreme.
