First time for my husband & son; only second time on ocean fishing trip for me. First time at age 12 was sea sick whole trip. So this trip was wonderful. Husband & I prepared with dramamine. Son got seasick but crew was very helpful. Fishing was a blast...Captain & Crew were great! Food from the galley was reasonable in price & taste good!Only down side was not many "keepers". Will definitely go back!

This was a great time for our family! We enjoyed the boat ride, the staff was very kind and helpful with all of our needs. We were able to catch fish and it was fun for our kids to experience ocean fishing. They were a little disappointed that the fish we caught were not big enough to meet the legal catch and keep size. Overall it was a really great time to experience ocean fishing! Thanks Dana Wharf Sportfishing!

very fun but slighty frustrating

This was our (my husband and I) first fishing trip on the ocean. We went in the morning when my husband thought the fishing would be better. It wasn't as cold on the ocean as we thought it would be, which was nice. My husband and I both haven't been fishing for years and we didn't really know what to expect. It was a little frustrating on our part just not knowing what to do at all. (The reels we used were top of the line and brand new last time I fished...) For the first part of the trip, we were on the side of the boat because it was less crowded. (There were approx 25 other people with us). My line got incredibly tangled and we weren't catching anything, while other people around us seemed to be reeling them up nonstop. When my line was tangled, we had to wait about 10 mins for one of the guys to come over and fix it. He told us we should fish off the back of the boat but there never seemed to be an open spot. When we made our way over, the crew had (what appeared to be) regulars move out of the way so we could try to catch something. We caught and released many fish after that, but it was still crowded. Every time we got stuck in kelp, the crew helped us, and so did the people who had done this before. Their advice helped a lot. At first, we got conflicting advice on our fishing lines. We were told to fish off the bottom using the weights that came with the hooks, then we were told to take the weights off and aim the bait towards the kelp. (The second option worked better). We caught and kept 1 fish that was large enough, but we never got it cleaned and unfortunately left it behind because we were from out of town and didn't know what we'd do with it or how/where we'd cook it. If the company had an option for things like that we didn't know about it and it was never mentioned. Overall, it was a lot of fun and something I'm sure we'll do again. The crew was really knowledgeable and friendly, even though there weren't enough of them to go around for a brief time. The price we paid was worth it. It was great to watch the seals circle the boat and even steal fish right from our hooks. Watching the crew clean the fish was pretty cool too. The experience as a whole was great, there was too much fun stuff to let the minor let downs ruin it. Expect to come back covered in fish scales. :)

Fishing at night is fun!

More bites with this trip. Lots of barracuda were caught on live anchovies. Some looked liked keepers, but I guess people didn't want them. Also lots of calico bass caught and a few sand bass. It helps to have a casting rod for the beginning of the trip while the sun is still out, and then a conventional for the rest of the trip. Enjoy everyone, and have fun catching fish!

You have to fish a lucky spot or no fish!

This trip was pretty bad. Slow day of fishing. I did catch 2 red rockfish, but that was it. I have been on the twilight trip before and it was really good that one time. Lots of fish were caught and kept that day, but not this time. Very few fish were caught. It is best to wait until summer, or when fishing picks back up, because it looks like fishing isn't really that great right now. Have fun anyways, we saw a whale, so it wasn't too bad.

Fish bite at night!
Sat, Apr 19  5:30 PM ANNA92688 Female 20-29 Local Family Without Children
The fish really bite at night! Huge sand bass were caught! I caught two and my mom caught one. I also caught two treefish. Really good eaten. That day there were 20 sand bass caught, some rockfish, and a few calico bass. Check it out and give it a try! Good bites on squid. Fish on this trip or the 3/4 day trip, because the regular 1/2 day trips are not catching anything. Twilight at 5:30pm( this trip) is a good one to go onto. Good luck catching fish, and have fun fishing!

Too little time to fish.

I didn't catch anything, but it could be because I was trying for halibut. I did have one halibut bite, and a few other bites, probably bass bites. I wish I had a longer time to fish, but that was it. Plus all of the bites are toward the end too.

Great outing for grandparents or parents to share with their children. Great hamburgers on board and a great crew. So helpful to the children. And there was a fishing instruction class on board before departure. Advise you to book on line and arrive early. This seems to be a very popular adventure.

Fish are biting! Plus we saw a few dolphines!

The fish are biting. I didn't catch any only because I was trying for halibut. Otherwise I did have some good fish bites. There was some decent bass caught, as well with a very nice sculpin. A guy right next to me also caught a short halibut that was a very close one, it was about one inch off or so and it was a chubby one. How funny too, that the guy next to me caught the short halibut when he was not even trying for it. Oh well, this Sunday I am doing the halibut derby, so hopefully I catch a keeper halibut!!! Have fun everyone! The fish are biting, you just have to try it! It's fun even just watching others catch fish. Plus we usually see dolphins and/or whales, but this time we only saw a few dolphins, but still you get to see these beauties and fish at the same time! The weather was also nice for fishing. Good luck fisher people!
