Sum Fun was too small a boat and was too crowded. Several people got sick, at night. Then, especially when the boat begins to rock and heave through the swells, sea sickness becomes prevalent since the horizon line is no longer visible. Our last two fishing excursions were on the Dana Pride, a much bigger boat, with half the fishermen. Both of those trips were far more enjoyable.

Caught 30" Halibut

I took one of my Grandsons and Granddaughters fishing on the half day boat " Reel Fun". The crew was a good group of young men that did a great job making sure that everyone on board had a good time. When someone hooked into a larger fish, one of the crew were there to assist if needed. At two different locations, my Grandson hooked into a couple really large fish. Both times one of the crew made sure he had enough room to fight and enjoy his 5 minute battle. The first escaped, but the second turned out to be a 30", Jack Pot Winning, Halibut. Over the years, I've used Dana Point Harbor as our "go to" fishing distention. My Grandson leaves for college today. The "Reel Fun" crew helped create memories I will always cherish...... Thank you.

My 12 year old son and I had a great time on the 1/2 day trip. As we are both beginners , the crew helps us with all the tasks and shows what to do. The galley provided good food and the cabin and top deck seating was comfortable and with a good view. The other people on the boat were all friendly and we all worked as a team. Even though we did not catch any fish we had a great time. I not only would recommend this outfit, but will go out on another 1/2 day trip next time we are at Doheny State Beach and Dana Wharf.

The crew was lot of fun and always available to help untangle lines, remove fish from hooks, and share tips. Dolphins followed the wake, gulls and pelicans were never far, sailboats were whipping nearby, a tall ship was seen at a distance and paddle boarders and surfers were closer to shore. Hayden, our 8 year old grandson caught a rockfish and we all agreed to return when the water was warmer.

Experience of a lifetime

Took our 8 year old grand daughter and her dad out (curious to see what a "giant squid" was all about). Sea was rough. It was windy and cold. Everything was against our adventure, but it was a resounding success. Captain and crew were gracious hosts. People were friendly and helpful (we obviously were new to squid fishing). We had a wonderful time despite all that was working against us. Planning on taking other grand kids out as opportunities arise from year to year. Enjoyed the squid fillets the next night for dinner. Affordable family experience.
