Excellent day on the watere when Cory the Captain decided to stop searching for "Dorado,Mahi mahi, dolphin for 90 minutes...It was a great ride but the sea was way to flat to search for kelp patties.....After which we moved closer to shore to catch numerous Calico/Kelp Bass, techinque is much like fishing for yellowtail snapper in the Florida Keys....Rig a sliding egg sinker 1/8 to 1/2 ounce depending on current with a 1 to 1/0 circle hook....Both squid and sardine filets worked well...Place bait as close to kelp as possible as the Calico Bass are extremely territorial and aggressives as the bait drops 4 to 12 feet below the kelp....If using live bait use 3/4 to 1 ounce egg sinker to get the bait quickly to the bottom for halibut and away from birds. Pacific Barracuda, Halibut, a few pelicans, Commorants and losing fish to a pesky sea lion. Birds are definetly a problem when fishing live bait.....Both the mates Chad and Mike are excellent as was the captain in assisting patrons. Other than catching the fish themselves they did everything possible to find fish.......As a bonus the selection of beer was great and I had the best cheeseburger on a fishing boat ever......Fish are fileted on the way in so inner is ready to prepare when you get home or back to your hotel if the chef will cooperate,,,Wish i had taken a full day......As an ex mate of numberous fishing boats in the Florida Keys......These guys get an A++++and I would recommend them highly and hope to be back soon......

Father & Son Day Trip

My son (15) and I took a 1/2 trip on the Reel Fun Boat. We had a blast! The entire crew was extremely helpful. If you're a novice at fishing (like us) be sure to grab this boat. The captain kept us moving to find the fish, the cheeseburgers were hot and delicious and the beer/coke were ice cold, not to mention reasonably priced. Ir you're looking for a great way to spend a little quality time with your son or daughter, go out with these guys.

this is the third time we have used this organization and the third time it has been a waste of money and time. They stay close enough to shore I could swim and couldn't find a fish if it jumped in the boat. We will never use this company again.

A very disappointing experience!

It was impossible to enjoy the fishing while constantly trying to avoid the many pelicans surrounding the boat trying to steal our bait or take our fish. They were there for the entire trip. We spent most of our time dodging the pelicans or getting our lines untangled from the birds or from each other. Also the younger members of the crew were either surly or too inexperienced. Most of the fish were caught by experienced locals who new how to cast far, dodge the birds or untangle their lines quickly.

Great first trip for Grandson.

This was the first ocean fishing trip for my 9 yr. old Grandson and he was boiling over with excitement by the time we arrived at the warf. I had decided to book the 1/2 day boat since it was his first time, just to get a feel as to how he would handle this type of fishing among a group of people. He landed one of, if not, the first calico bass that day as well as a couple others. The crew was very helpful, polite and one crewmember gave my Grandson cuddos for his fishing skills, which made him feel pretty good. Fishing was a little slow that day but our Captain kept us on the kelp where the boat still managed to land over 50 bass and a few other species as well. That turned out to be more than the full day and 3/4 day boats combined. It was a fun day on the water and I don't believe we had even left the boat before my Grandson asked when our next trip was.

Need more fishing time.

It was a great day but on a 1/2day trip, we spent way to much time traveling instead of fishing. We were in front of the Ritz Carlton catching a few when the Captn decided we would move to near the Pier in San Clemente, then back closer to the DP entrance.
