Half day fishing with kids
Mon, Apr 21  10:00 AM rjjump Male 50-59 Local Family With Children
Expect some frustration if you have younger kids. The half day trips pretty much sit at local kelp beds and the boat is positioned where the stern swings near the kelp. 90% of the fish will be caught from the back. The areas are over fished so the fish are small and hide in the kelp. Frequent fisherman will stake the best spots. The captain will announce a time for people to rotate but that will be half way through the trip. Most people will mill around a bit but grab spots close to where they were. So unless you are aggressive and force your way in you will not likely get a prime spot. I would do that but with my younger kids you cant as they are not good enough fisherman to handle the tight combat fishing that happens in the back. If you want to see the local coastline from a boat, have a snack and enjoy a day at sea then it is fine. If you go thinking of catching decent size fish then do something else. I have went 5 times with my small kids and always the same story 100+ fish caught but only a few legal size....and I am talking barely legal. I have not seen anything over 18" or a couple pounds ever caught.

Friendly crew, not enough time to catch fish
Sun, Apr 20  12:45 PM Bowhunterb Male 20-29 Local Couple on a Date
Staff was very friendly and helpful. I'd reccomend doing a full day or 3/4 day if you want to catch much; not one keep able fish was caught by our boat and we were only a mile or two out of the harbor. We returned almost a full hour short of the 5 hours advertised

Too little time to fish.

I didn't catch anything, but it could be because I was trying for halibut. I did have one halibut bite, and a few other bites, probably bass bites. I wish I had a longer time to fish, but that was it. Plus all of the bites are toward the end too.

What can I say I have so many positive things to say I cant say anything. I had a great experience my son had a great experience. Everything is decently priced from the rentals to the food. The breakfast was decent we didnt get lunch but it looked delicious we saw someone with a burger. The crew/staff/guys were all friendly/helpful took my boy under their wing helped him catch some decent size fish we released back. Im just mad at the ocean today. I highly recommend this company great experience I wish I had remembered the Dramamine however because I forgot the ocean rocks so much. My thanks and gratitude to Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching they are all class acts and awesome in my book, thanks again.

Just returned home from an AMAZING weekend spent fishing and whale watching with the wife for her birthday. I must say the staff and crew go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a memorable time and are very friendly. Hanapa'a (Jason K.) even sang Happy Birthday to the wife on the boat and played his ukulele, a moment she will never forget. We will be returning before the end of the summer for another fabulous weekend on the water! Thanks again Dana Wharf Sportfishing

Amazing time for both of us!

The Captain did a great job parking the boat right on the fish. Everyone on board was catching Calico Basson 8 out of 10 casts. Those that were struggling with technique had a crew member come and show them the tricks to have an eventful time. Captain and the crew were very friendly and out going, made the trip so much more enjoyable. I highly recommend it to anyone. Our next trip will be with our children, we landed so many fish, with quite a few keepers, that it would be near impossible for them to have a bad time! Loved it 100%......by the way, no need for a shore pole. Regular length pole works great, right Cory?!?

Fun but too many people
Sun, Mar 16  12:45 PM brian1y Male 30-39 Local Group of Friends
It was fun. But there were so many people, and so little space that lines were tangled every few minutes, and there wasn't a chance to cast or do anything other than just drop the hook straight down.

RV park and a lot of folks ask about the trip ...i don ,t think you will be hearinh from them
