The weather was nice and we were able to watch the sunset off the water. No whales but plenty of other sightings. |

The captain of our Whale Watching trip has been doing this since 1989. He is extremely knowledgeable and I felt he still was in awe after seeing these magnificent creatures so many times. He know where to go and how to approach the whales. The crowd was wonderful and they don't overcrowd the boat. I thoroughly enjoyed the views of Dana Point and San Clemente as well. I came away with new wonder and appreciation for God's amazing creatures. Worth it! |

We are always happy to travel with the folks from the Dana Wharf Whale Watching excursions. This was probably about our 6th trip and our first sunset cruise. The crew is friendly and knowledgeable. The ship is clean and enjoyable. This cruise was not too crowded, so there were plenty of seats below and above (I do wish they had a few more seats on the boat).
We did come upon a large pod of bottle nose dolphin -- this was our first encounter with them, as we usually have seen the common dolphin. We were given much time to enjoy them, photograph them and watch them play with the ship. There was no mention from the PA about not being able to find a whale -- I wish they had clarified that. But we also know that whale sightings are down this season.
Last stop was to visit the sea lions that take refuge on a red buoy in the water, and they always delight the kids. This was a birthday gift for our daughter, and her request to take out the cruise again. We will be back as many times as our schedule allows and highly recommend it to all. |

Not too good for a date. Spent most time viewing dolphins. Saw one whale and only the spout. For the same price i'd rather go to Sea World or the San Diego Zoo. Would recommend as a first time for kids as it is more of a family type of event. The two hours went quickly. Make sure you layer your clothing as it gets breezy and is much cooler than on shore. I was expecting more, but it was good for me to try it and find out for myself.
I didn't like the fact that the other boats would follow where we went which would scare off the dolphins and whales because it seemed as if you were blocking the animals in. I'm not sure if the other boats are inexpensive than this one.
Also, this boat is quite large and therefore holds more people which could make getting a seat or a good location difficult. If your more into the intimate nature, i would suggest the other whale watching tours that are smaller but let's you get a better view because there is more space to move around the boat during the trip because the animals go on either side of the boat so moving from one side to another is important. |
