The experience was amazing!

The weather was perfect ! It could have been cold and windy. The boat is roomy with plenty of seating if you get in line early. The Captain was informative. We followed 3 whales for about 45 minutes. The captain then took us to see a pod of Dolphins numbering 50+. This was the real show. The adults as well as the children were so excited. It was a great experience!

Outstanding whale watching trip

There's never a guarantee of seeing whales but we saw a pod of 4 whales plus an individual whale. Then we saw hundreds of dolphins - 3 different species. Crew was informative and very friendly. Because it was the last trip of the day (the 2pm boat) we stayed out an extra half hour or so because there was so much to see.

A wonderful experience and a wonderful day!

My wife and I enjoyed everything about this experience. From the online order and payment, which included great directions and useful information, to the easy check in process, uncomplicated boarding process and the friendliness of the crew. Once underway, it was a delightful sailing day. The captain and crew were very knowlegable and provided very clear information about where we were going, what we were seeing, and lots of indepth knowledge about the mammals we saw. To be clear, we did not see any whales on this day, but that did not diminish our enjoyment. We saw a pod of risso dolphins that were awesome to watch and stayed with them for at least 30 minutes. We also cruised over to another area to see seals and sea lions. You can't blame the operators for whales not being in the area. All in all, this was an excellent day at a very reasonable cost. Don't think twice - this is a good value!!! PS: The boat and the ride were very comfortable, but I recommend you grab a seat on the top deck for great viewing and comfort. PPS: Dana Point Harbor is a pretty nice destination in and of itself. Come early (for better parking) and stay late for a latte or sunset at the marina.

A pleasant two hours

Although you simply can't predict the whale's behavior and therefore there is no way to know if you will see one, the boat is clean, the crew is professional and sea lions and dolphin sightings were exceptional. Some locals brought wonderful picnic lunches and enjoyed the warm weather cruise.

Great ship, great crew and great viewing. A very pleasant two hours exploring the Dana point seas and wildlife. Tuesdays are two for one days but a great bargain on any day. A snack bar with drinks, hot and cold, alcoholic and non completed the adventure.

Dana Sport Fishing Whale Watching Trip

Since it was early in the season and it was very cold and the water was very rough we didn't see any whales or dolphins. Even the sea lions were few and far between. It was a very nice boat and the crew seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. Some people couldn't handle the rough ride and got seasick. If my friend had been staying longer we might have waited for more favorable conditions, but since she was leaving the next day we didn't have much of a choice. I strongly recommend that people dress WARMLY if they are going to take this trip in the winter months. By warmly, I mean winter coats or jackets because it was COLD. Fortunately, we were dressed accordingly so we were relatively comfortable. Since we didn't see any whales or dolphins we received a voucher for another trip at some point in the future. Hopefully, we will have better luck then, but we felt that it was an enjoyable experience nonetheless. I have been on these trips before and got to see many dolphins as well as the occasional Grey Whale. This time of year however, it is a crap-shoot as they say with regard to the weather and/or the likelihood of seeing marine life. It's still worth the trip in my opinion as it is generally an enjoyable two hour cruise if nothing else.

No whales or dolphins

Though it was a beautiful day, there were no whales or dolphins to be seen. We were given a rain check for a future trip but being from quite a distance away we can not use them. The boat we were on is a party fishing boat (that I fished on about 25 years ago) so there is no outside seating, other than on the bait tanks. Inside there is bench seating with limited visibility though the windows due to the bench seats being so low. It is not the ideal vessel for comfort while trying to view sea life.

Whales and the biggest shark
Fri, Apr 9, 10   12:00 PM BRSCHIEBE Female 60-69 Combination Family With Children
this time we not only saw whales (from afar, as usual) but we also saw a HUGE shark up close - so close in fact it actually went under the boat leaving us wondering if its plan was to chomp off a chunk of boat. It has its mouth wide open as it approached us. Our captain tells us he never had seen a shark like this one! There was much speculating, but by the end of the trip, because of the determination of the crew and some fancy equipment, we were able to find out what it was. All the crew members seemed fun, knowledgable, excited, enthusiastic, and willing to respond to questions. I wish there was a way to get closer to the whales for a better view without disturbing them. We had a great trip!

This is one of the best activities ever! I am from Illinois and come to California to visit my son, daughter in law and two grandsons. We try to do as many fun things as possible, and this is the best! The staff interacted with us, making this a very educational activity, as well as lots of fun. I would certainly recommend -- whole heartedly -- a whale watch to any native Californian or visitor.
