FUN...but disappointing

It was a great two hours for the price however we didn't get to see any whales. We did get to see dolphins. Since it's not guaranteed to see whales I don't think i'd pay again to chance not seeing whales again. Still had a good time on the boat.

Didn't see whales

I was excited about going out to view any type of whales and unfortunately not one whale to be seen. The captain said he was sorry and the whales must have been in Mexico and haven't made the trip back. What we did see was dolphines in herds swimming very fast and came very close to the boat. But that was it. I was disappointed because I've been wanting to do this a for a very long time. The captain said he would give us our tickets back if we didn't see any whales, but that didn't happen. Penny Douglas

Nice trip.

The only thing that I feel could improve is that when a whale is spotted off to the side of the boat, don't spin around and face the whale right away. The people on the side and on the back of the boat cant see the whales from the back when the boat is facing the whale.

We thought this was an interesting outing, well worth reduced senior rates. Left on time; returned a little late because the captain kept searching for whales. We saw them, as well as lots of nearby dolphins. Great fresh seafood on the wharf. Nice outing for visitors.

Loved seeing fin whales!

Our boat went out at noon on 3/12/10 & we were very lucky to see several fin whales & I was able to snap a photo. One of the crew said the photo only showed about 1/3 of the whale. He estimated that it was probably 75 feet long & weighed 750 tons - Wow - that was a truly awesome adventure. During my previous whale watching event a few years ago, we saw lots of dolphins jumping & swimming alongside our boat, but no whales.

Boat trip on Dana Point

This was quite an adventure. There was so much to see, where to begin? Best of all we spotted a humpback whale which was remarkable since it was in November! Another wonderful part of the tour was the large pod of dolphins that were swimming along side the boat. Then another type of dolphin species also joined in the act, swimming out a little farther. The captain of the boat was very informative on the different types of marine life we encountered. We also went by a large buoy that had 6 seals perched on top, & were able to get very close for perfect photo opportunities. I would love to do this again if in the area again.

Before I bought tickets i read some reviews. I was a little concerned because a few ratings didn't seem too pleased. I also knew there were no absolute guarantees of seeing any whales. My daughter was home from college on Spring break so we decided to give it a try.We had a WONDERFUL time! Maybe because we went into it not expecting to see whales? We stood outside in the front. ( How anyone could sit inside I'll never know?) Just the ride itself was great but then we came across what seemed like Dolphin heaven. Hundreds, or was it thousands of Dolphins?Seemed like it. I've never seen anything like it. leaping out of the water, swimming along the boat. It was magical. I hated to leave but a whale had been spotted closer to shore so off we went . I still can't believe our luck. We actually found the whale. Everyone on the boat got so quiet,no one spoke a word.....It didn't want to show itself much, Surfaced a few times as we waited hoping it would give us a show. Unfortunately we couldn't wait any longer and had to head back. All in all it was a wonderful and would recommend giving it a try. The best I can say is everyone's experience will be different and you have to find out for yourself.......But you just might get lucky!!

No Whales, But Really Enjoyable!

Unfortunately , we did not see whales during this trip. At the beginning of the trip we saw a number of sea lions sun-bathing on a buoy close to the dock. After which we briefly saw two bottlenose dolphin. It was only a glimpse though, and they were not very curious or friendly. Most of the trip after this was uneventful. We didn't see anything, but we did enjoy the trip. The boat was really relaxing and calming in the way it rocked back and forth. This downtime made for a romantic time for my girlfriend and I. Towards the end of the trip in the last 30 minutes we did get to see something awesome. A flock of pelicans and a school of 200+ dolphins were working together to snack on a school of bait fish. It was amazing watching these animals work in tandem with each other. These were common dolphins and were friendly to the boat. They raced all alongside of us, in our wake, and played along the bow. It was great watching them leap about. We then headed home. As someone who has never seen dolphins in the wild before, this was a great experience which I'd definitely recommend. We will definitely be coming back in the peak of whale watching season later on in the year.
