We had such a good time on the Whale Watching Tour. We did not see any whales but we saw beautiful dolphins.

Crew was great. Saw several whale flukes. Saw Gray whale mom and calf along with several schools of playful bottlenose dolphins. One dolphin even performed a great flip out of the water! Learned what a "footprint" was and will continue to look for that.

Whales were only at 12:00 only the people on the front of the boat got to see them but the people on the sides and back only got a glimpse. People in the front of the boat pushed the small children out ot the way and they didn't get to see. Next time spin the boat around a little.

I took two teenage nieces (15 & 17) visiting from MI on this Whale Watching adventure. They absolutely loved being on a boat in the harbor and seeing the dolphins so close they could almost touch them. We were all delighted to see the whales, especially the mother and calf. A seal popped his head out of wave quite unexpectedly and gave us all a good chuckle. My nieces were quite excited by this activity and besides enjoying it myself, it heightened the experience to be able to share it with my nieces. The crew was very friendly, polite, and knowledgable.
Rating: 5 One of the best whale watching experiences ever!

What started as a local jaunt to celebrate a birthday turned out to be one of the best whale watching experiences we've ever had. As our ship headed back to Dana Point harbor at the end of the trip, our captain spotted a pod of about a hundred dolphins in the distance. He turned the ship around to follow the pod even though we had come to the end of the tour. Our ship was surrounded by dolphins leaping out of the water -- truly a joyous experience. Granted, we were extremely lucky to find the pod, but kudos to the captain for spotting the pod and delaying our return to the harbor to give us this experience.

Whale watching is a great activity for people of any age. While we were out we saw 2 whales & watched for at least 20 minutes, plus saw a few dolphins and lots of California Sea Lions. The boat crew was very knowledgeable and helpful in pointing out the wildlife and telling a bit about them. They were very friendly from the first greeting to inviting us to come back again when we left. I will definitely go whale watching at Dana Wharf again.

Rating: 4 Fulfilling and Rewarding Cruise for Whales

Seas were slightly rough though the sun was shining brightly as my wife and her cousin (an L.A. resident) scanned the seas for marine life. We saw several gray whales blowing spouts and arching their backs out of the water near the cruise boat. On a couple occasions, we were able to clearly see the whales' blow holes and the barnacles, crustaceans, and other features of the whales' backs and skin. We also saw whale flukes on two occasions being raised from the sea surface just as or just before the whales dove into the sea. We also saw several dolphins arcing out of the water, three at a time swimming in unison and exposing themselves to our view off the side of the cruise boat. Our guides were quite knowledgeable about the whales and kept us informed about sightings and whale/dolphin locations relative to our boat's position. Our 7x birding binoculars were quite helpful in viewing the whales and dolphins as these mammals kept a bit of distance between themselves and our cruise boat. Our party of three (including my wife and I from out of state) felt this a rewarding and exciting experience, though it was a bit short (a little less than two hours all told considering maneuvering and docking the vessel, exiting and entering the harbor, etc.). My wife's cousin & L.A. resident is looking forward to returning in July for a cruise to view Great Blue Whales, which our guide informed us often frequent these waters at that time of year.

We saw about 5 grey whales, 2 on their own and then two adults with a baby. It was a little choppy which made it more difficult to see them, but it was still neat. The crew told us they didn't see any whales on the group that went out before us, probably due to the not-as-nice conditions. I would advise you to pick a nice calm day to go out, the crew seemed to indicate they have better success on those days. Take binoculars if you have them. The boat cannot get super close to the whales.
Rating: 4 Another quality trip

The tour left the harbor on time. Crew was friendly and informational. Saw and followed two whales for a bit, crew expertly spotted a sunfish and drew us closer for a look. Only dissappointment was there was not one dolphin to be seen (kind of strange) Tour ended at the precise moment. Our German exchange student was delighted. Another quality tour.
