These guys know what they are doing really very well. I traveled from Oregon on Sept 7th and took this cruise to watch Blue Whales with a few other friends. We had a great look at the Blue Whale! And saw thousands of Dolphins swimming alongside the cruise and "by the wind sailors". The guides are very helpful and eagerly answer to all the questions you may have and more. They also talked of several interesting facts about the animals we saw. We had a "whale" of a time indeed!

Last Minute Decision Pays Off Big!

My husband and I made a last minute decision to go whale watching, since we've never gone. We were not disappointed. Saw many Blue Whales. One came up to about 10' from our boat! It was amazing! The boat was not crowded and we were able to get many videos and pictures of our trip.

We went out on the 6:30 am trip. To our surprise, this trip had 5 professional deep sea fishing instructors from "Owner" hooks. They gave two fishing classes on board as we got underway. When we were on the fishing beds, these Guys gave awesome advise, tips, and tricks everything, bait size, baiting techniques, casting, even reeling in the "big one"!!!

Actually saw wales!

It was a worthwhile trip. Wasn't expecting to see whales but we sure did. The Captain knew exactly where the wales were, how far to stay back to not spoof them and how to track. The only negative aspect about the trip is that the sea was very rough and several people got sick. However the crew was extremely helpful, compassionate and knowledgeable.

We didn't see a blue whale, but did see a blow from a distance. Witnessed many bottlenose and short-beaked common dolphins with the help of an awesome cetacean naturalist, David Beeninga Great time!!

Spectacular

As if bragging rights to seeing the blue whale in all its glory (or at least about 40 percent of it as it submerged and emerged from a deep dive) weren't enough, we were treated to a totally unprompted, enthusiastic show put up by the hundreds of dolphins racing our boat! What a treat for adults and kids alike...and so much better than paying exorbitant Seaworld ticket prices. There is nothing like seeing the animals wild and free, and oh so happy in the deep blue ocean where they belong. Our captain was determined to make the whale watching happen, even after we sighted one very briefly and it dived back in. We kept looking, and patiently waiting (in the meanwhile being treated to the amazing dolphins), and then received the ultimate reward: the blue whale. Absolutely amazing.

We had a wonderful time with Dana Wharf Whale Watching and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Southern California. We got lucky the afternoon we went out and saw tons of dolphins, a mola mola and a huge blue whale that came up to the surface 4-5 times. The captain of our boat was very friendly and, went over all safety precautions well, and did a great job giving us background information on the things we were seeing. His second mate was very helpful and informed as well and I think made everyone on the boat feel very relaxed and comfortable. He had great stories to tell about what he had seen before and was very gracious with us as well as everyone else.

We saw it all!

Our hope for this trip was to spend some time on the water and maybe catch a glimpse of a dolphin or two. Wow! We saw, quite possibly, a hundred dolphins splashing and playing around. On top of that, we saw several whales and one even breached, giving us the spectacular fin shot. I couldn't believe it! It was a great trip, and the crew did a fantastic job. Highly, highly recommended.

Nice trip.

The only thing that I feel could improve is that when a whale is spotted off to the side of the boat, don't spin around and face the whale right away. The people on the side and on the back of the boat cant see the whales from the back when the boat is facing the whale.

Truly Not What I Thought It Would Be
Sun, Aug 31  5:30 PM Robert00 Male 40-49 Local Family With Children
I will start by saying parking was a nightmare. They provide a permit but its only value is IF you can find parking. If you are going to advertise a parking permit, the assumption is that you are reserving a spot for the customer. NOT the case. The people in charge were rude, the young men on the boat were arrogant. The boat was essentially a small shrimp boat and it was packed to the hilt with people. I knew there would be other people, but this was ridiculous. The only guarantee this company can offer is obnoxious employees at the front desk AND on the boat, a crammed experience, and coronary-inducing parking. Sorry guys, but the whole experience was a complete ****-fest.

Great views and great weather
Sun, Aug 31  2:00 PM gnickell3 Male 30-39 Local Couple on a Date
We went on this whale watching trip as just a nice day trip. We were not disappointed. The weather was perfect and the boat was not over crowded. The crew was knowledgeable and friendly. We had a great time. The only thing that might be of some concern is that although the crew makes their best effort to locate whales and dolphins but there are no guarantees. Just be aware that some days you will see many whales and others you may only see one or none. Despite all that, it is still worth it. Amazingly fun time. Enjoy
