Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

It was an amazing day. Weather was spectacular but more than that we saw approximately 5 gray whales and many, many schools of dolphins!! Mostly common dolphins but also Rizo dolphins. We took our son who is 5 1/2 years old and it was so amazing to see and experience it through his eyes. The wonderment of it all. Really was a wonderful trip in all ways!! Highly recommend it.

I would definitely go again.

The day started out with breakfast out, drove out to Dana Piont where the weather was just beautiful! The boat ride out was fabulous, immediately found our CA Grey Whale, followed it for a long while which allowed us to take plenty of pictures.. Along the way the staff provided great information about the grey whales. I would love to go again!

Great crew, veryyyyy helpful! They start off the trip giving a demo on how to use the rental gear. then they come around and put weights on everyones lines... even if you didnt rent the gear from them. They will untangle anyones lines, help you bring fish in, bait your hooks if you have trouble, etc. very friendly crew and the captain really tries to have everyone catch something, he even stayed out an extra half hour or so on our trip because it was a bad day. Galley had good food at a very reasonable price. Anything you catch they will also fillet and clean for you at the end of the day for $1 if you choose. The fishing was poor that day however. we went in late january and there was about 20-30 fish caught on the whole boat but it was often the same 4-5 people. our group consisted of 5 people and we caught one fish between all of us. But I would definitely recommend the trip, just check the daily fish counts on their website for a good day to go.

We enjoyed our trip. We did not see any whales but the dolphins were spectacular. The staff made every effort to see that we had a great trip. Highly recommend! PS- even on the warmest day, it's chilly on the water, so layer up!

We didn't get to see any whales on our trip, but the captain DID take us to a HUGE pod of dolphin - estimated about 1,000 - and made sure we had plenty of opportunities to see them. The tour guide was very informative, and everyone involved was very friendly. The cost can't be beat for the great time we had! We're planning on going again in late April.

The captain was so informative and kind to everyone. The boat was very clean and attended. It was a wonderful experience that I would recommend to everyone, young and older alike, if you enjoy the ocean and all the wildlife that goes with it.

I've been on the boat many times. People who run it are knowledgeable, good communicators, know where to go to play with our whale and dolsphine friends. They love their work and I never tire of the joy of being out on the water, experiencing the peace and connection with all the elements and the sentient Beings of the sea. Last trip was a rare day when we didn't see any, and it was a great day anyway......and we get a rain check. How good is that!. MzB.

We were a group pf 40-50 people with a common interest, but we didn't all know each other. When asked later that night if we minded not seeing any whales or dolphins, everyone answered with a resounding NO! We had so much fun with each other, we didn't really miss them. AND, they refunded our tickets to come back another day! I believe they said they hadn't had a no-show run in 27 weeks. (?) This is a great activity for a meet-up or any kind of group to do something together. The Capt was informative and the crew wonderfully nice.

The crew was awesome. They were not only friendly but really seemed like they wanted everyone to have a great time. We even went over our scheduled time to see a whale that we spotted towards the end of the tour.

Two gray whales and a pod of 1,000 common dolphin...even a few stay sea lions swimming with the pod. Outstanding wildlife viewing!!

I gave this to my mom as a christmas present and even before we saw the two whales she told me this was the best present she had ever received. We are already planning our next trip. We saw whales and dolphins. Also the crew was great and the captain very entertaining. You won't regret your purchase.
