Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

The trip was very good. We only got to see one whale lift its tail out of the water. The other whales were a little harder to spot. We could typically only see its footprint. The lack of whales was surpassed by the abundance of dolphins. The boat captain steered the boat to an area that had a vast amount of dolphins. Being in the front of the ship provided the best experience for the viewing of the dolphins. You could look down the bow as see the dolphins in the water as the swam along the ship and jumped out of the water. I would definitely do this again next whale watching season.

Captain Jack did a great job. He's a funny guy. He also was the 1st boat to locate a whale Saturday morning. We'll definitely come again. The Millers

I was impressed with the captain's commentary about Baileen Whales and the CA Gray Whale in particular. We spotted and trailed a Gray Whale for about an hour and the crew seemed just as excited as the passengers were. What a spectacular trip!

This was a great experience... being out on the ocean was a blast. Would have been better but we did not see any whales... maybe next time!

The spots where we were was hardly any fish to catch. My kid was very sad because he didn't catch anything.

We arrived in Dana Point early and really enjoyed the area. We waited in anticipation for the boat to dock and were excited when it came around the corner. This was the first time any of us had been in a boat in the ocean and we were thrilled. The boat was clean, the staff was wonderful, and the experience was amazing. We didn't get to see a whole lot of whales but just being out on the water was amazing. During our trip we encountered a small amount of bottle-nose dolphins and a few Fin whales. It was really cool. The captain wasn't satisfied with the amount of time we had with actual animal experience and offered us all $10 off our next trip. Next time we are in town we will definitely take him up on this offer. Taking the evening trip was memorable as we were able to watch the sun set behind Catalina island. This experience will be one that our whole family remembers forever.

My wife always wanted to go Whale Watching. She had a great time. We will be back next year!!!

We found no whales

We got great seats...right beside the captains quarters which kept us out of the wind and cold and up high enough to see both sides of the boat. But it didn't matter because we did not see any whales. And we did not get tickets to return for free because the 8am trip was a special price of only $8. So I guess if you don't pay full fare, you don't get to come back for free when you don't see a whale. All they gave us was a coupon for 10% off a future trip. I would not recommend paying more than $10 for this trip. Two hours of just staring out to sea hoping to see a whale was no fun.

the boat was too slow and upon arrival we had only but 15 minutes to wait for the whales to surface. another boat, same category, passed us on the way out and loitered around the whales much longer than we did. frankly not worth the price.

We enjoyed our trip whale watching. However, it was pretty cold and windy on the boat....not the captain's fault of course. This made for less than perfect conditions. We were lucky enough to see two whales....one even went breech (but it was on the other side of the boat.....so I did not see it). The captain was friendly and informative. Overall, a very nice excursion...especially for the price.

The fact that we saw two whales, and one was jumping out of the water made our experience unforgettable! The boat was on time, and the captain knew a lot about the whales. Would totally do that again!

Fun way to see wildlife in its natural habitat, but can get tedious trying to locate the animals.

We saw 100's of dolphin, swimming right alongside the boat. We also saw 2 Grey Whales. Great Value on Tuesdays. 1/2 Price
