Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

We went out on Thursday May 1, 2008 at 1 pm.. There was only one other couple, so we had the boat basically to ourselves. Unfortunately we saw no whales or dolphins, and our schedule did not allow us to return for another trip out, so we didn't ask for a voucher for a future trip. (We did see sealions.) The catamaran was immaculate and the crew was very helpful- they helped me back to an area of the boat that was calmer when they saw I was looking a little seasick. The view of the coastline was beautiful, and it was a gorgeous day for a trip on the water.

In lieu of buying toys for my grandchildren at Christmas, birthdays, etc. I have decided to spend time with them. This was definitely time well spent. Not only did they "ooh" and "aah" at the pod of common dolphins and shreak with excitement when the whales breeched. The boat ride itself was an adventure for them. Thanks for a great day!

We saw three species of dolphin and sea lion! It was great!

It is hard to give any kind of a review since the fog and the weather didn't allow us to see any whales. At least we were able to see some dolphins and sea lions which helped. The cruise lines can't be blamed for the weather.

the whale watching tour was fun and informative. we saw a whale and followed throughout the tour. Snacks, food and drinks are available for purchase at a reasonable price. the crew were all very knowledgeable and friendly

Upon arriving at Dana Point Wharf to check in, we were advised that the sea was rough and they recommended taking something for sea sickness. We were escorted onto the boat on a beautiful spring day. The trip out to sea was rocky, but soon we were invited to purchase drinks or food items. Our first siting were seals and we were given detailed information regarding their habits. We also spotted dolphins and information was also provided. Unfortunately, we did not observe whales but plan to do the trip again,. Before placing our reservations, I asked the representative if this was good time or should we wait for blue whale season and was advised to go ahead now. I know there is no guarantee for spotting whales, but hopefully next visit we can obtain a recommendation on a best bet for a time to see a whale. Truly enjoyed the day and look forward to next trip.

We saw a whale. We followed it for about 3 dives. We also saw california black and white dolphins as well as the normal dolphin. The captain was very knowledgable and was enjoyable. The only down side was the know it all next to me that would not shut up and let me enjoy the ocean.

A beautiful day on the ocean with gorgeous weather. No whales but LOTS of dolphins. Nice to just relax on the boat and watch as they played, swam, jumped. Will definitely do this again, and again!

We thought that it would be lots of fun. First the boat/vessel kept changing and they did not know which one was going. Very simple objective - You see even a few dolphins you are done. I am not sure what additional they show you other than being on the boat for two hours. It is over priced for sure, just to be on the boat and see some dolphins...

Would recommend this to anyone and everyone. The entire family from Texas (10 total 4 children ages 4 to 9 and 6 adults) enjoyed this adventure. The experience was worth every penny. The kids are still talking about the things they got to see. Thank you for adding to our trip to Southern California. The Clark Family!!!

Fishing on the Clemente is such a great time. The captain, the cook, and the deck hands are all very nice and helpful. I am an amatuer fisher, at best, and still caught a few fish, and so did my 9 year old nephew. If your lines get crossed, if you lose your weights, or your hook, or catch a fish, the staff on board are there in an instant to help you. They have nets available too if you are lucky enough to catch a big daddy. Then on the way back to the harbor, the staff will filet your fish for you. Basically, all you do is show up. Everything is waiting there for you to bring fish home for the Barbeque.

My whole family had a great time. We unfortunately didn't get to see any whales, but that is just luck of the draw. We, however, did see lots and I mean lots of dolphins. My grandchildren and we adults were happy just to see the dolphins. What magnificent creatures. We would surely take the tour again.
