Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

We had an amazing trip and were able to get great views of the whales up close. The crew is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They also had scientists and volunteers on board to help answer questions and help us understand the behaviors we were seeing from the whales. I would definitely do this again.

Had a great time... saw 2 gray whales and many, many dolphins! The dolphins were absolutely amazing!!! The captain was extremely knowledgeable and provided great insights! All in all, a great trip!

The tickets are not valid and yet charged $25 on top of what I paid on the website. I am not at all satisfied with the service .

What a great time we had. I have not seen my fiance so happy in quite a while. It was better than I expected and so informative too. The dolphins were wonderful enough and the grey whale was the icing on the cake. We also saw sea lions. We ate first at historic "Turks" which is right there. No sea sickness just pure joy. Thank you!!!!!!!

I am a travel agent in BC Canada and we booked a tour plus orientation breakfast with Captain Todd. Could have sat and listened to him all day but a boat was calling our name! Great weather, and fantastic time out on the water. Saw whales and dolphins and spectacular coastal scenery. Really enjoyed it and for the price of $45 pp this is well worth it. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I will be recommending this area to clients who plan a trip in Southern California as it's definitely something they can do while enjoying a Disneyland vacation. I plan to connect with Todd and build a working relationship with Dana Wharf with the hopes of perhaps a group tour at some time. Tiffany in the office was a great help with giving directions and information when I called with questions before the tour. Thanks Tiffany! Look forward to doing another tour on another visit to this beautiful area.

This is well worth the money. After boating out a long way, we saw a large group of dolphins that even swam along side the boat. We then traveled around quite a while before we finally saw a whale. We followed it along for a while and we saw it several times as it came up for air. The only down side is lack of seating. Most everyone had to stand along the railing which became very tiring after awhile.

We went out on a trip right after a rain storm swept through and the ocean was pretty rough. About three quarters of the passengers were seasick over the rail at one point or another during the trip, so take Dramamine ahead of time! The other one quarter of the time everyone was delighted with the roller coaster like waves. As for the sightings - two extremely impressive whales & many athletic dolphins, as well as sea lions & pelicans. Overall an adventure!

Our captain tried to find 2 gray whales which had been sited earlier, but they eluded us. He did find us a huge bunch (school?) of dolphin though- hundreds, and it was very exciting watching them play in the wake of the boat. A two hour ride is just about right.

We attended the 3/3/13 tour at 8 AM so were part of the first group on the boat for the day; this meant parking was easy and the boat was clean, which is key (restrooms can get nasty). The tour guide/ boat captain whom we heard over the loudspeaker was excellent; we really appreciated his descriptions and facts of whale and dolphin behaviour, as well as Dana Point geography; it truly enhanced the experience; disappointed we didn't catch his name and didn't see him to thank him upon departure. LOTS of kids but we expected that. 2 hours is perfect- much longer would be too long.

Who new the big whales got so close to shore! What a fun trip. The captain was full of interesting info and facts regarding the 7 mile area off Dana Point. We saw about 6 whales and lots of dolphin. Would recommend to anyone.

The crew was really informative about the animals we were seeing. The boat was clean and very comfortable. We saw 1 grey whale, quite a few common dolphins as well as sea lions.

It was a very successful trip. We saw a lot of fin whales . The captain knew right where to go since the group before us had seen it. The only negative was because of all the excitement, we were 45 mins late leaving and returning.

The employees are professional and the driver of the boat was very factually informative. The parking was horrible but they gave us a parking pass so we could have better parking. They don't over crowd their boats so there is room for everyone to see a whale or other animals. Loved it :)

Captain explained grey whale migration habits, how they live, breed and their comparison to other whale family members. Sited two grey whales almost immediately out of the harbor! Beautiful day, great boat--very clean--and a good crowd on Valentine's Day--but not overcrowded.
