The weather was perfect! We followed 2 gray whales around for quite awhile and were able to get some good photos. The captain was knowledgeable and taught us a few things about the gray whales that we were not aware of. I would absolutely do it again :)

Did I just pick a good day for it, or is it always so beautiful on the ocean? Went for the kids, but I loved it myself! My boys were still talking about it when we got home. They really felt as though they'd had an adventure. The 2 hours went quickly as there was so much to look at (that did not include telephone wires, or fast food signs ruining the landscape) Lots of big sky and ocean - as yes we did see some whales. What we saw were mostly tips of their heads as they came up for air and their tails as they dove again. The exhalations from thier blow holes are visible and audible. Really cool fun! We will go again. ALSO .. The Ocean Institute is literally 2 minutes from Dana Point harbor and affords you the opportunity to touch sea cucumbers, sun fish, star fish, and even rays. An amazing variety of sea creatures are on display and much information is presented in regards to whales. There are fun interactive displays and the staff is very knowledgeable. Zerve customer service is super!

Great idea for a special occasion

My boyfriend took me on the whale watching cruise for my birthday. After over an hour on the water seeing only sea lions, we weren't sure we'd end up seeing any whales, but we really didn't care because we loved being out on the water on such a beautiful day. We were thrilled when the captain told us that another boat had radioed him to say they spotted some whales. We immediately took off for the area and saw two gray whales swimming side by side. It was amazing! Definitely something to do for anyone who has a chance to get to Dana Point. Loved it!

Dolphin Party
Sat, Mar 13  11:30 AM jeff23 Male 30-39 Local Couple on a Date
My girlfriend and I had a great time. It was a little rocky, but that was to be expected. We saw a pod of dolphins- at least 100 dolphins in the pod. We followed the dolphins for about 40 minutes. There were dolphins everywhere. It was like the dolphins decided to throw a party. They were all around the ship. They like swimming with the boat and they get extremely close. We saw tons of dolphins (babies and adults). Dolphins were doing spins in the air and diving in groups of three. It was an amazing sight. We also saw a whale. I also liked the fact that they had beer and food on the boat. The staff was very informative. Very good for the price. I am definitely going to do this again in the near future.

Before I bought tickets i read some reviews. I was a little concerned because a few ratings didn't seem too pleased. I also knew there were no absolute guarantees of seeing any whales. My daughter was home from college on Spring break so we decided to give it a try.We had a WONDERFUL time! Maybe because we went into it not expecting to see whales? We stood outside in the front. ( How anyone could sit inside I'll never know?) Just the ride itself was great but then we came across what seemed like Dolphin heaven. Hundreds, or was it thousands of Dolphins?Seemed like it. I've never seen anything like it. leaping out of the water, swimming along the boat. It was magical. I hated to leave but a whale had been spotted closer to shore so off we went . I still can't believe our luck. We actually found the whale. Everyone on the boat got so quiet,no one spoke a word.....It didn't want to show itself much, Surfaced a few times as we waited hoping it would give us a show. Unfortunately we couldn't wait any longer and had to head back. All in all it was a wonderful and would recommend giving it a try. The best I can say is everyone's experience will be different and you have to find out for yourself.......But you just might get lucky!!

No whales that day but still fun

This was a great price for a whale watching trip. For 2 parents and 3 kids (4, 2, and 4 months) it was like $68. Parking was free. The kids had a great time, which made it all worth it. We did not see any whales that day but we saw lots of dolphins. Literally hundreds of dolphins. I was seasick most of the time and sat down on the side of the boat. I still saw hundreds of dolphins without even standing.

We saw Dolphins - a lot of Dolphins!
Sat, Mar 13  11:00 AM dstiel Male 50-59 Local Family Without Children
There is no doubt we feel lucky to have seen a magnificent "super-pod" of dolphins - literally many, many hundreds of them jumping, leaping, and "walking" on their tails. Even the baby dolphins kept us rivited to the scene. Wow! Our Captain followed the pod for several miles and for what seemed like an hour, keeping us entertained with interesting facts. Granted, there are never any guarantees you'll see anything, but today it was unforgettable. What a trip!

The crew was helpful and welcoming. Felt like family. They really worked themselves hard to be sure we actually saw whales! We also saw a mega pod of dolphins at our request. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would do it again in a hot minute!

We went out on the 10am ride and the first two rides did not see anything. We went out and saw One grey whale and giant pod of dolphins (about 1000). Captain was great and the ride was unforgettable.

Good Trip - One Whale, Many Dolphins
Sat, Mar 13  10:00 AM albertsantos Male 30-39 Local Family Without Children
The trip was very good. We only got to see one whale lift its tail out of the water. The other whales were a little harder to spot. We could typically only see its footprint. The lack of whales was surpassed by the abundance of dolphins. The boat captain steered the boat to an area that had a vast amount of dolphins. Being in the front of the ship provided the best experience for the viewing of the dolphins. You could look down the bow as see the dolphins in the water as the swam along the ship and jumped out of the water. I would definitely do this again next whale watching season.

It was a wonderful trip - the co-captain was most informative on the gray whale and we were wonderfully surprised to see a mega pod of 5000 dolphins playfully joining our boat!
