Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

We had a fabulous time. the Catamaran was a smooth ride. we saw schools of dolphin and some sealions, and saw a blue whale. It was so cool. The captain did a great trip. He went out farther to make sure we saw a whale. Fun was had by all. I would do this trip again.

I took my cousins from TN on their first whale watching trip (mine too) and we were delighted to see a large group of common dolphin and a Blue Whale. The ocean was calm and the weather was perfect. The boat was comfortable and the crew was very pleasant. Dana Point is a beautiful place to go. We topped off the day with a great lunch overlooking the harbor at one of the local restaurants.

I'd gone Whale-watching about a month ago, out of Newport. It was awful. Wet, smelly boat. No whales sighted... not one! A few dolphins, some sea lions... no biggie. So when my friends suggested we try it again, I was less than enthusiastic. But they said they'd heard that Dana Point was having sightings, so I agreed. Lemme tell ya folks, I was NOT disappointed!!!!! We saw bunches of whales... Blue whales!!! A truly fascinating experience, loved every minute of it!!! I would HIGHLY recommend the Dana Point whale-watching to ANYONE!!! The Catamaran was especially nice, not too crowded... allowed everyone a great view of these magnificent creatures!!! The crew was nice, and very informative... unlike the experience at Newport. I can't wait to go again, and my friends all feel the same!!! FIVE stars... without hesitation!!!

A beautiful day of blue whales close by and dophins swimming under and around the boat. Friendly and helpful crew. The large catamarian much more fun than a big boat.

It was the fishes fault. Captain got us to the fish and detailed them underneath. Fish just weren't biting that night

Terrific trip--would recommend it

This was my second trip on Sum Fun, and each time with limited results - in fact, we only caught one fish between 3 of us. Both times the boat did not have anchovies for bait. Other boats that I've taken out had anchovies, and we were successful. The boat was overcrowded - 56 anglers. Not only was the boat overcrowded for fishing, there was a sign on the boat that read "27 adult life vests". Interesting. I will never take Sum Fun out again.

We were in the midst of a wonderful dolphin mega pod of 5000 to 6000! You never know what you will see in nature: we hoped to see a blue whale but instead were entertained by this amazing group!

Sunday PM trip. Went fishing with my son and his friend, they are both in their early 20's. The live bait was large sardines, so I think that affected the calico bite. Maybe 35 anglers on boat, saw maybe 20 keeper calicos landed, some of them were decent sized (3#+). I just couldn't hook one. The crew was great, the weather was nice, look forward to trying again soon. Hopefully they will have anchovies soon.

It was a fun trip and the crew was awesome but we didn't get any fish. Maybe 3 people caught something. The jacklot fish was maybe 2 pounds. It would have been better if more people caught fish

I cant wait to do this again, the service was great the attendants where nice. the boat had food and drinks. My dad always told how much fun he had as a child when his dad would take him, now I know what he ment. I can wait to do it again.

Spend the first hour just going around in a circle. Very irritating !!!

I was not told that the 4 ticket i bought for the trip with my wife, son and his girlfriend were going to be on a boat that was designed for kids. If you go out of Dana Point do NOT go on a Sunday unless you want to spend your trip fixing your lines that will be crossed the whole trip. Felt i should have been informed before i went! BTW, Captain did not find the fish!
