Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

I went on this trip with six other friends. It was a clear day on December 29, 2009. We didn't see any whales, but we did see scattered groups of dolphins. The guide/ boat driver guy told us that this is the beginning of whale migration and that more of them are seen in March. Most of us wore sweaters. Sunglasses really helped block the reflection of the sun on the water. I wouldn't recommend this trip to anyone who easily gets motion or sea sickness. I got a bit of a headache but this was mostly due to someone up front smoking twice while we were at sea. I regret not complaining to the organizers about the smoker. There should be a rule against this especially with kids around.

and if u dont get to see whales they give u free pass for the next visit. thats owsum :)

This was the very first time for my 7 year old son, my husband, and myself on a fishing vessel. My father, who has gone deep sea fishing before, also joined us for this trip. We were so impressed by how clean and efficient the staff was, and not to mention, very kind. Everything was explained perfectly and the captain as well as the deckhands were very helpful and polite and very energetic along the trip. We didn't catch anything on this trip, but we sure had a fabulous time and we look forward to doing it again soon. Keep up the good worK!

Best time you could image! Just upgrade th the spinner rods and use extra weight to get past the pelicans.

The knowledgeable, professional and capable crew made our time on the boat enjoyable. Since we booked our ride towards the end of the gray whale watching season, our boat didn't happen upon any whales or dolphins, however with the free voucher to do another ride, we felt the afternoon was a completely enjoyable experience.

The trip was reasonably priced. The staff were helpful and pleasant to fish with. We had a nice time, but unfortunately we went on a slow day and were unable to take any fish home. We will go again after March 1st.

I like the fact that there are experienced fishermen on board to help people out. Ducks kept getting my bait and the deck hands came to untangle them. They also helped out if someone's line got caught or tangled with someone else's line.They even fillet your fish for you for $1!

The trip was ok but we did not get any catch...hopfully we are going to get somthing next time, the full crew was very frustrated becouse we didn to cath anything....I'll come back....thank you for the e-mail.

We had first time visitors with us to Ca. and they loved the trip. We saw dolphins and a grey whale, that fluked several times. Our captain was a great narrator with some interesting facts. We really enjoyed ourselves!

We always enjoy the Dana Wharf fishing trips. They know the local spots and put you right on the fish. Wheter its the long range, catalina or local hot spots. You will catch 'em.

Even though we didn't see any whales or dolphins on the morning that I went, it was a beautiful and relaxing day out on the water. I met a lot of nice people. At the end of the cruise, we all got a ticket to come back again, since we didn't see any whales. I would go again whether I saw any or not. Having owned a boat before when I lived out here, I do know that you can see dolphins and whales and sea lions during certain times of the year. We almost always saw dolphins on our way to Catalina. They used to play in the wake our our boat. They are such a joy to see when they are around, but it's not something you can predict, only hope for. Either way, whether you see them or not, you will enjoy being out on the water for a relaxing day trip. I would go out every day if I had the time. I will be back again soon! Just be sure to bring your camera's or video cam's.

Crew was polite, attentive and knowledgeable. Even our twelve year old granddaughter felt welcome and included. Would go again and would recommend to others.

This is a double review. My entire family enjoyed a whale watching trip on March 21, 2007 and my son and I enjoyed a five-hour deep-sea fishing trip on March 22. Both were excellent in service, ease of use (fishing trip), knowledge of local marine life (whale watching), and overall quality of the experience.
