A wonderful day with the Very Best Boat and Crew
Sat, Jun 18, 11   12:00 PM MikeSleek Male 40-49 Local Family With Children
Ive been whale watching for years with my young children, in Dana Point and Monterey California and the Catamaran along with her Crew was the VERY BEST we have ever experienced.. Although the Whales did not show on our trip, weve never experienced a better day on the water. The boat is very stable ,quiet and truely low emmission in regards to her engines. It makes for a pleasent day regardless of the show. It was our first time on the Catamaran and I will choose no other Boat again for Whale Watching or Coastal Cruise, " Its simply the Best boat and crew " Thanks For A Great Day and Wonderful Memories with My 3 Children, Michael S,

Great Family activity- enjoying our beautiful ocean, and being away from cell phones and TV! Fun to teach the kids how to fish. We caught 2 and had them for dinner!

A bit disorganized and unprofessional
Sat, Jun 18, 11   10:00 AM lucerosmith Male 30-39 Local Group of Friends
I will say that the fishing trip was nice. everyone in our group caught fish. The scheduling of the trip was a bit disorganized. Confirmed a 6:30 am trip then via email (no call) was told the trip was rescheduled to 10 am. No refund if that time didn't work out for us. One person in our group however maintained a 6:30 am departure time. When I called they said that they didn't have a 6:30 am boat but then one came up just not big enough for everyone in the group (3 people total). They rescheduled the last guy from the 6:30 am spot to the 10 am spot with the rest of us. When we arrived they told us that our one friend had been moved from the 6:30 am (saturday) spot to to 10 am spot on the previous Monday and he missed it. Finally got it all cleared up and we were able to go on the trip together. Kind of a headache... CONFIRM you departure day and time... at least twice!!!

Fairly good fishing

Fishing was good on our twilight trip, it would have been lots better with anchovies for bait, we had 90 % large sardines. And the 13 inch Calico bass in general were not large enough to swallow a large sardine. The Crew on the Clementine was good and very helpful. The bass readily went after the few chovies we had.

No individual attention for first-time fishermen

I took my son for his 18th birthday. We caught absolutely nothing, had little help or assistance in anything from selecting a pole to baiting our lines. It was a nice experience to be out on the boat together I suppose, but if that's what we had wanted to do we should have done a regular harbor cruise, not a fishing charter. We were both very disappointed.

This was great. The family and I had much fun. The staff was very helpful. We got tangled a couple of times and they were "johnny on the spot" to fix and take off the fish. Highly recommend this group for any family.

not very interesting

Anticipation was high among the passengers on the boat. The boat was full. After the initial departure from the dock it took nearly an hour before any dolphins were sighted. There were many small pods scattered throughout the bay, obviously hunting. The captain of the boat had many informative comments. We did not see any whales. That was disappointing. The captain and his crew did find a very large pod of dolphin at the end of our time frame. That was impressive, they estimated over 2000 dolphin. The weather was not the best, cloudy and and chilly for the late afternoon trip. We did this excursion in the fall and it was much more successful. We did not appreciate the captain smoking, the odor was prevalent on the upper deck and stern area and he spent his time while driving us around the bay sending text messages.

Good Deal

Unfortunately it was all overcast when went on our whale-watching trip but we had fun anyway. I think the half off is a very good deal for a 2-hour boat trip even without seeing any whales. We did see lots of dolphins. Of course a little sunshine would have made it even more enjoyable but all in all I think it was an evening well spend.

We loved everything about the trip. I have been out whale watching before and have never seen a whale. I hope that a large percentage of the time people see whales and I am just not lucky. Or maybe we should name the trip dolphin watching.

Lots of dolphins, no whales (past season?)

The experience on the boat was great, and we saw a huge (super pod?) of dolphins, which was wonderful. We did not know that we were actually really past the blue whale season, or we might not have booked the cruise. Not a big deal, but probably would have factored into our choice of this as a family activity. Overall, we had a good time.

My son (15) went with 2 friends. They got 4 fish between the 3 of them and 1 was a mackerel. Captain should have known better locations to go to.

Relaxing Ride - lots of dolphins, 1 whale
Sat, Jun 11, 11   2:00 PM cathycares Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Nice boat and staff, comfortable ride although it was an overcast day. We observed several groups of common dolphins - they came up to boat in groups and jumped etc. They were fun to watch. Towards the end of the ride we had a blue whale in the distance. The boat chased after the whale and we saw a small part of the whale several times. Too bad it didn't come fully to the surface as it looked huge! I would recommend the tour!

Feeling Ripped Off

EMAIL SENT jUNE 18, 2011 I have taken people on the Catamaran Whale watch several times. I has always been a nice trip. This trip I took my girl friends family from Las Vegas on June 11, was memorable for all of the wrong reasons. I bought tickets for eight of us, 5 adults, one teenager and 3 children. When we left we headed north off of the point to view dolphins. We found a small pod and then moved on to a large pod. The person speaking gave very little information about any of the dolphins during the trip. Instead he spent the majority of his time speaking about how great his DVD is and why we should buy it. This wasn't just once, but I would estimate about 6 times. After we had spent time with the dolphins, he asked, "So do you want to stay here or go see some whales". Nobody even answered. My take, is that it is his job to take us on a whale watching trip and anything else is secondary. When we left the area, we were about another 1/4 mile and he said that there were some very rare Rizzo Dolphins. There were about 12 and we stayed there a considerable amount of time. He said we were going to look for whales, but instead traveled at half speed parallel to the breakwater to eat up time for about 30 minutes. We were not anywhere near where the blues are usually spotted. when he line up with the breakwater opening he turned and and went in. When I called to complain to you Manager, his response was "You can find Blues in 30' of water". His response only angered me more. I have been on the trips and we never went near the krill beds on this trip. I told your manager that it appeared that they were trying to save gas by not going out very far. Your narrator IMO didn't have a clue. A nice guy, but clueless. A clueless huckster trying to sell his DVD throughout the trip. To summarize my complaint, you failed to provide, or even attempt to provide: A whale watching experience but instead turned it into a close to shore dolphin watching experience An educational experience - get your questions answered by our on-board professional naturalist or marine biologist. (FROM YOUR WEBSITE) So far I have only been given a patronizing response by your Manager. Being a small business owner I believe that every attempt should be made to resolve the issue with Management. To tell you a little about myself, I am 67 years old, and grew up in Southern. I have been fishing in Dana Point long before the harbor was built. Of all of the locations along the coast, Dana Point offers what no other area along the coast has. Ever since my first whale watch at Dana Wharf about 15 years ago, I have told countless people that a lot of locations have Whale Watching, but none can match the Dana Wharf location. So I hope you can investigate and determine that I am not just some disgruntled tourist. Thank You, Arnie (last name withheld

Enjoyed Whale Watching Adventure

Even though we didn't see any whales, I still thoroughly enjoyed ALL the dolphins we were able to see. I can't remember his name, but the gentleman who told us all about what we were seeing was very nice and engaging. Would do it again
