Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching

The trip was great, even though we did not see any whales. It took about 30-40 minutes of going up the coast before we came across dolphins, a very big pack of dolphins. Although somewhat disappointed that we didn't see any whales, we understood it was a chance-spotting if anything. We were lucky and ecstatic to see many dolphins. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Whenever they saw some possible activity in the water, they would alert everyone. I would highly recommend this trip, because it was fun and the staff made it even more enjoyable. Customers should just always keep in mind that there is a chance that they may not see any activity. Even so, a trip out to sea can be just as enjoyable, especially on a beautiful day like the day we went.

Was a great way to spend the day outside! We did not see any whales this day, however on our trip we came across a pod of about 300 dolphins. Everywhere you looked you could see them swimming and jumping out of the water, an amazing sight! I'd seen 2 or 3 before, but to see this many was magical. I would definitely recommend!

My wife, daughter and myself had an absolutely wonderful time!!! Even if we hadnt run into the 2 mile long school of dolphin, it was great being out on the water.

Enjoyed the day, beautiful weather.... Enjoyed the dolphins... but very disappointed that there were no Whale spot tings. I have never gone out of Dana Pointe before always out of Long Beach... (4) times prior and I have always seen Whales. This was the first time that I had gone without seeing any. The boat and crew was very pleasant and informed us with much information! The thing I thought was weird was the selling of photos on the boat.... All in all the trip was worth while.

The boat ride was very smooth and beautiful scenery. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The food was good. We saw sea lions, dolfins and a slight glimpse of a whale, although very brief. To make sure we were happy, we were given a whale ticket, to try again another day. Looking forward to that.

My party of seven people had a good time. Our customer service experience was superb; we were contacted by phone a couple of times to inform us that the fish were not biting, and that we could change our reservations at no additional charge if any other date would be preferred. We ended up changing our reservations, and the fish were still not biting the day we ultimately went out. With seven anglers fishing constantly for four hours, we should have netted more than two small fish total, hardly worth keeping. But the trip itself, with the crew's help in putting on bait, and untangling fishing lines, etc... went well. I would have been more impressed if the captain of the ship had some kind of depth monitoring system that could spot large pools of fish -- it seemed that we changed locations often to find fish, but our location changes were based on "hope" rather than scientific methods. The entire ship's fish catch was minimal, and there were about 25 people aboard. I did expect more opportunity for more fish for everyone. I have gone fishing before where the entire ship's customers all caught fish, with many catching the day's limit. This was not the case on the day of our trip. I will recommend this trip to others. This was an excellent way to spend a sunny afternoon at sea.

This was great - only wish could of been longer. The Dolphins were so fun to watch. Our captain went were he heard the whale was and we saw it - not much of it but what we saw was exciting. Our captain kept saying we need to get back our time is up - but stayed so we could see the whale...Thanks we all appreciated it. Would reccomend this to everyone!

We had a great time. We saw many dolphins, including some babies, and we did breifly spot one fin whale. The captain and the naturalist on the boat were very helpful and friendly and did everything to help us see a whale, even though we were a few minutes late back to the dock. I would definitely go again!

Good Crew fun boat didn't catch anything but had a blast.

We went out squid fishing 2 nights after they had their final catch of squid. The captain made the decision to take us out farther where they could possibly be found since the close spots had been exhausted. It appears the squid have headed out. No squid were caught but we had a great evening The captain and the team gave it a good try for us. We went out a few days later on a 1/2 day boat and caught a lot of fish! Sand bass, calico, bass, sheep head, baracuda, halibut, lobster etc. Fun!!! There was always a "fish on" for someone on the boat. The staff is so wonderful and friendly and helpful.

We tried a new area in deeper water and the squid just weren't to be found that night. We were out a couple of hours longer than planned, but that just proves how hard these guys were willing to work to try to find some kind of action. I get in the area once in awhile for work and I'll be giving these guys another go. Polite and courteous crew. Just wasn't our night.

Only thing better would have ben to catch some squid

The trip was ok but we did not get any catch...hopfully we are going to get somthing next time, the full crew was very frustrated becouse we didn to cath anything....I'll come back....thank you for the e-mail.

We had a nice outing with a very a good company seeing sea lions and dolphins. Unfortunately, no whales. However, the company made it clear that we may or may not see whales before we purchased tickets. Even in the absence of whales it was a good trip.

Enjoyable. Did not see any whales, saw dolphins and sea lions. Got a "whale check" to come back for free. Too bad we live out of country, but will try to get back one day, since there is no expiry date on the whale checks.
